Thanks for the tutorial! I just had to replace some of the missing materials with cardboard and news paper, but don't worry i hardened them beforehand with some glue
Everyone is making jokes but I’ve actually be wondering how they could make a big dam on a large river so I came here looking for the answer so thank you!
Same here...I actually came here from watching a short to get full information about the construction of dams. This is the short ua-cam.com/users/shortsh-SI3Ou4VJM?si=hyfz-bK99Y1wucDL
How on earth am I getting notification from this host comment where I didn't reply at all? And it's not the first time. 🤔 Should be some UA-cam glitch.

Mullaperiyar dam in kerala, India was built with a lifespan of 50 years, 126 years have passed now and the life of around 10 lakh people in Kerala is in danger. We need international attention towards the dam safety#savemullaperiyardam
They don't, they are built on flowing rivers and the concrete is inserted underneath, like at 1:47. Sections are usually heavy enough to resist the flow of water adequately during insertion. If water flow is vigorous enough, then a diversion will be built, perpindicular to the water flow, to divert water form the river elsewhere while the main dam is built. P.S. when you see a dam and it has water up to the top on one side and water almost at the bottom on the other side, know that the side with the water at the top is the reservoir, which is filled up after the dam is complete.
I dont know what kind of long-winded pseudo-answer Mr Vivic is providing above. The answer to your question is that they divert the water around the construction site. Simple as that. Build a channel or channels that allow water to flow around wherever they working. When the dam is complete, they plug the channels. In some cases, they might build a structure called a cofferdam or caisson in the river itself and perform construction within the de-watered cofferdam area.
@@johnnyvivic8730 1:47 is some unrelated stock footage. The dam in that scene has already been built. No, they do not simply lower pre-cast concrete blocks in place within the river. They cannot become monolithic structures that way.
That was really cool. This is the best way we know how to make clean energy right now. Unfortunately, in my country Pakistan, we are facing severe flooding once again and we still haven't built enough dams. We are also facing a 20% electricity shortage..
Yes exactly, couldn't agree more. I am also one of the Pakistanis who came to see this video after hearing and realising how several people and their homes & businesses got severely affected by recent disastrous flood incident. I pray to Allah and hope that in near future we are able to build such dams to avoid such flood disasters and also able to generate massive hydro electricity and get rid of thief organization like k-electric.
Thanks man! Learned a lot from this one.. my mate was wondering how to build one and this comes in real handy as a guide to help me and my mate build a nice big dam in his backyard because we want to drown his 4 year old child. The vacum helps assure, IT cannot escape once it's in... Thanks once again mate and cheers to you and the Interesting Engineering team!!
To date there are no dams running multiple banks for turbines why? Well the story you are told is there are issues like turbine surging and dissolved gasses in the flow. This was the case But in Australia RDP Marine has made a turbine system that can be retro fitted

Hi plz help can anyone contact me we have a situation in India where one of largest Damm in Karntaka state india lost its one of its gate and to replace local engineers are saying yo empty Damm by half , now its rainy season here, to store water for summer for farmers, now the Damm has full , now they are empting Damm to rapier the gate

I can't be the only one who searched for how dams were made

Oh damn I forgot the 'first filling' phase on my dam. Went straight to full usage, good thing this video helped me built my first dam
Oh DAMn that could be dangerous
So fascinating! Thank goodness we have engineers.
Am getting more interested in my civil engineering career I really love your channel 😘😘

But owner of the dam is neighbor tamilian
Water damage free electricity with free water
Why would anybody ever build a dam that would only last 50 years?!
I've always wondered this but for some reason never thought to look it up. I had the mentality that it was going to be a mystery forever
Very Informative,
I was just confused, how they stop the flow of water while constructing the dams?

That dam represents UA-cam algorithm and the water represents my subscribers. No clue when will the dam open 😂
This is very insightful, and I can see how valuable dams are…but I can’t stop thinking of Vegas Vacation lol.
Thanks. I'm going to build a dam

Do you have a tutorial of building a gravity dam? With materials needed to build it?
Funny how they showed the Oroville dam which ultimately failed. You think they would chose one that hasn't.
LUCKY, I HAD TO GO GET BEER AT THE STORE, I JUST ABOUT STARTED OUT THE WRONG WAY ON MY DAM .😂😂😂
Please make a video on how river is diverted
What about the water living organism
There are nets at the inlets of the dams.
