Pound for pound, I think that it has to be the Elysian drop troopers or Catachan regiments that are the most potent. You get the most results with the fewest soldiers just by how they operate. However, overall, I think the strongest and most powerful would have to easily be Krieg. It’s a crazy world who’s methods produce insane amounts of diehard killers and I’m surprised that the Imperium hasn’t tried to make another world like it. Not like there’s a shortage of nuke blasted hellholes to train new regiments of Krieg #2 in. And also, considering the importance of these planets I am very surprised that they don’t have Astartes garrisons for defence. They should have done that for Cadia. Don’t make that mistake again.
@@sternleiche the steel legion are actually my favourite. I do not know of any other guard force that have done what they have. They are right up there among the very best of the best.
Most elite regiment that we know of in the lore are the ones guarding the Imperial Palace (alongside the Custodes) on Terra including the mo’fing Lucifer Blacks who’s regular troops can 1v1 a Space Marine in MELEE COMBAT using power swords and hold their own for 1 minute or more. In term of pure skill theres no better than the LBs. Altho they are rarely deployed away from Terra so they might have grown a bit complacent
Agreed whilst down right effective and the most deadliest regiments available to the guard, each has their own strengths and weaknesses, such the death korps of krieg where yes artillery barrages and trench warfares are fun and all, however they do struggle when dealing with more mobile or agile enemies such as the tau or eldar and whilst their fierce fighting prowess surpasses most if not any other regiment, their use outside of specialized fields of combat does limit their potential, personally and this is my own opinion but the most effective guard regiment would have to either be the cadians due to their ubiquity as well as commonality with most of the other guard regiments as well as to their higher martial training,
you seem to forget that the DKOK also has highly mobile armored companies and even regiments of mechanised infantry, they are not just trench warfare, they can do it all. infact even during the Siege of Vraks they did have quite some extensive meneuver warfare on the northern front against the defenders of vraks
Tempestus scions don't really belong here, they're head and shoulders above the rest because they're more special forces. You're basically comparing different countries line infantry and then throwing the SAS in there too.
They definitely aren't, it isn't uncommon for Cadians as young as 10 to be combat veterans since all Cadians are soldiers at birth and most saw action with the Cadian Youth Armies before becoming real Guardsmen. IIRC, Kriegers typically have a similar experience growing up, but not to the same degree as Cadians
@@ahha623 no, Catachans don't typically leave home until adulthood. They also don't really serve as soldiers until they join the Guard. Cadians are born as soldiers, and die as soldiers.
@@ThatRatBastard don't forget pdf and such, and you used cadian youth armies as point, I can use that catachans are trained from the moment they are able to hold a weapon to use that weapon. Joining defences as training and sentry ect....

As I am only a casual fan, but do these more "Elite" Imperial guards regiment value more of their soldiers compared to say Planetary Defence Forces or normal Imperial guards where they will be "easily replaced" in a meat grinder battle?. From the look of it, Tempestus would seems to value their men as they seems to be better trained
It depends on the specific unit, Cadia and Krieg both were quantity and quality, whereas the Mordian Iron Guard is a little slower to replace but humans also have an extremely high birthrate in 40k
Misconception is to assume that the imperial guard in general is always in grimderp « throw troops to die uselessly lol » mode, whereas in truth even regiments like the valhallans who are prone to use human waves still use advanced tactics But yes Scions are very valuable and take long to train (they are also all pretty much super soldiers lite, casually able to break necks with one hand for example) and so they have focus on minimizing losses and hyperfocus on accomplish select objectives rather than fighting conventional war

No offence but… kinda boring list. There are so many more interesting and deadly. Tanith First, 13th Penal Legion, Savlat Chem Dogs, Hyrikans and so on. This is basicly just (most) of the regiments GW have released models for.

What, 0 mention of Gaunts Ghosts? They're some of the best light infantry and recon specialists in the galaxy, with their scout sgt even being able to out stealth Eldar. Genuinely only other regiments of renown like the 8th Cadian or Vallhallan 597th could be said to be better.
Acceptable losses. Scions are exceptional troops and fairly hard to trade but on the scale of millions of worlds those kind of losses are more than acceptable.
next 10 worthless Imperial Guard Regiments, please 😅😅😅😅

Maybe not worthless, but I do like the Japal Indentured Squadren.

For humankind. My favourite faction. Just regular everyday humans fighting the good fight.
The successful, and effective guard's men.
Steel Legion woohooo!

Catachan fighters were known to have killed chaos space Marines
Honorable mention: Tallarn Desert Raiders
Most badass in my opinion
Kinda heartwarming for the Taliban to be on everyone's side for once.
