- This is a video of Mary Tizya in her home in Old Crow, Yukon, making her delicious bannock! The music comes from a fabulous CD called "Tin & Bone" by George McConkey, from Dawson City, Yukon. www.myspace.com...
Filmed in Sept 2010
To you, Mary, thank you! Thank you, Mary, for always keeping your heart open to all of us newcomers who came into the community. We found a safe place in your home. We found tea, soup and bannock, and, most of all, a good friend! I remember I first arrived in Old Crow and didn't know many people... I remember, for instance, feeling shy about coming into the community hall when there were feasts. There were so many people!!! Well, you would wave your hand and catch my attention to sit with you! What a relief! You were always so very kind and so welcoming.
A few times you came down to Vancouver, once for an eye operation and last year for some shopping. Well, we shopped! But mainly you had your children and your grandchildren in mind. I don't think you bought much for yourself! And you have a laugh that is just unforgettable. I hear it now as I write these words. I miss your laugh! I will miss you very much!
To all your children...to all the grandchildren, to your sisters and brother and nieces and nephews and friends... I wish you all strength! May you feel all the wisdom and strength of your ancestry to guide you.
It has been an honour to know all the very good people of Old Crow! Mahsi cho. It has been an honour to know you, Mary. Mahsi cho! You have taught me so much!
With much gratitude, love and respect,
Franka

It looks like she was a by guess and by golly cook. Our Kukuum cooked like that.

How much flour?
My favorite bread my first taste was at expo 86 @ the first nation pavilion that and buffalo burgers lone the Indian way of life Bob nova scotia
mine tasted awfully bland without Berry's is this normal?
different bannock with eggs, is the bannock more fluffy?
yes, it will be more fluffy especially with the milk added . I do not know her personally but I make bannock lol, theres basic bannock with the basic ingredients = good but flat bannock, more ingredients such as milk & eggs will make it rise
also this daytona
great job mary enjoy your bannock lessons
What are the measurements?
They are... as you see them!
