My great grandad served on the HMS Hood. He joined in the mid-late 30s and stayed on her until he was killed in the battle of Denmark strait. His name was Harold Thompson. I will be defiantly getting this ship no matter what.
@Matthew Caughey It wasn't a 'design oversight'. Every RN battleship built from the Nelson on had 'all or nothing' deck armor. Hood was uparmored from her design, to the point that she was pretty overloaded (which is why she sits so low in the water), but didn't have a modern deck thickness. Regardless, at the range that the fight took place (around 18,000 yards), Bismarck's 15 inch guns could penetrate around 16-17 inches of side armor...and Hood's side belt was between 15-5 inches, depending on the location. Those shells could and probably did penetrate the side armor and detonated the aft magazine. Adm. Holland was aware that the Hood had basically no immunity zone for the German 15-inchers, but was unaware that Bismarck also has incremental deck armor, and was vulnerable to plunging fire too. From what he knew, he did the right things, but failed anyway.
Dumb Comment They are the same class, that doesn't make them the same ship. Hood never ran into Tirpitz at Denmark Straight, it was Bismarck. The ship they show at the end is Tirpitz, you can tell by the camo that is Tirpitz specific in game.
And it's the HOOD that wins too.. like the Tirpitz had no torps. But it's for the image of HMS HOOD so yeah understandable. Just wish they had shown this scenario when presenting Tirpitz with it coming our on top, and they've only said that Bismarck got sunk never saying that he did the same to HOOD.
@@flak8842 no, the bismarcks aa too great of a caliber. The rounds didn't go off when hitting the airframe of the swordfishes due to fabric cover which lead to them just passing thru without detonating
My uncle served on Hood for one year (I think) and he was a Stoker on her when she went down in the Denmark strait. My mother, his sister told me that he was so proud to serve on her.
$200 CAD for Hood? (even tho its technically on sale for a lower price) no thanks. Also british battleships were basically confirmed with this cuz it was said "train commanders for british battleships"

The hit was mostly just a really lucky shot. Getting a hit at the armor joint of the turret by an equal is something no battleship is expected to survive.
Just bought it for its great historical value even though I saw too many negative reviews on it. Surprisingly this ship is not bad and very maneuverable. I don't regret buying it

So your 'British was ship; was meant to be British warship. Hence the old RN prefix to W/T signals 'To any British Man of War'. I make the same sort of typo errors myself all the time.
The video presentation stated that HMS Hood was the lasgest UK ship for 10 years, it did not state that she was surpassed in size as a RN warship in that time.

You don't need to have Hood to complete the Hunt the Bismarck missions... She makes it easier, but is not required. I intend to hunt Bismarck with Bismarck. Bismarck-ception!

My son-in-law bought me a 1/400 scale Lindberg model of the HMS HOOD @ a yard sale 2 weeks ago, since he knew that I played World of Warships. So I bought the HMS Hood this week and I have already sunk the Bismarck & several other ships of all kinds, but I haven't seen any subs in the game yet!

I got the Hood Yesterday. I've only played 4 battles (won/survived 3 and died in the 4th) but so far I love her! The extra flags give insane amounts of commander xp 😊👍
I REALLY hope Wargaming adds the Lexington Class Battlecruiser to the game they were destined to be the the first U.S. Battlecruiser and would technically be the American version of Hood and I know a perfect name for the U.S. Battlecruiser: USS Nebraska seeing her in World Of Warships would be a dream come true!!!!!!
The Brits found out in WWI at Jutland, that battle cruisers were Fast, but suffered high losses due to the lighter armor protection. The Hood was supposed to be refitted with heavier deck armor , but time and circumstances precluded that action. The Germans had better accuracy and one lucky hit in a lightly armored spot above the magazine caused an ignition. That sent the Hood to the bottom.

It is actually appalling that you try and make light of something that caused immense pain and suffering for so many families. Imagine your dad was on this ship and you were only 11 only to find out your dad was gone and without a chance to say goodbye. And now realize that this ship was filled with people who just wanted to get back home. The freedom to pick and choose your own path and not have to worry that you’re going to be executed for not being of a certain religion. Haza 456 Only Moskva has higher close-range pen among cruisers. 495mm at 5km, and it falls off quicker at range (392 at 10km, 314 at 15) due to the lighter shell. No other cruiser breaks 450; Henri IV and the Germans from Hipper onwards are the closest to.
Its because WoWS won't call anything a battlecruiser because it confuses the peasants. There are 3 Japanese battlecruisers called battleships in game as well.
Wanderer628 shes not ww1 she was commissioned in 1920 and her Armour scheme was modified based on lessons learned from jutland. By the start of ww2 She was in need of a refit to strip and replace her engines and install better AA But other than stupidly weak deck armour her Armour scheme was actually pretty damn good. I think the only thing in game that she would need to be a great t7 Battlecruiser would be Buffed penetration on the Main Guns.

That's all good but the HMS Hood was never classified as a battleship! She was a heavy cruiser designed to intercept with her speed and take down battleships. Never to brawl it out 1v1 with battleships. That's why the Bismarck sunk her. Well one of the many reasons.
A terrible tragedy I know only 2 people survived and I take no enjoyment out of the deaths of so many people, but it war time and the memory of all those sailors will live on with the memory of the hms hood the pride of the british navy
Brofisticus it's still an arcade game. When everything would be historically accurate it would make no fun because the battles would go several hours or a day.
hood: has excellent speed, slow turret turn rate and loading rate.... along with a lot of islands in the map, the ships quick speed will get her into trouble rather than out of trouble, by the time you've entered into a zone that requires you to fire and defend yourself, the turret is not ready and the loading is not ready and you are full steam ahead into the enemy's jaws.. the speed is useless when everything else is slow, might as well play it like the warspite and keep her slow so her guns could catch up
All other ships have use-able space and armaments then come this abomination (Points at Hood's empty space) The Americans would put AA mounts there The Germans would add a catapult and Japan would put another turret while the British made sure that the Hood has the best tea making facilities ever put onto sea

He sunk because of an AP shell of the bismarck that hitted the ammo storage that exploded the ship
Also, that hit was one in a million chance, so it's a mix of luck and firepower in part of the Deutsche Kriegsmarine.
It wasn't a single shot, actually, that hit just occurred in the 4th salvo

There are a lot of myths about Hood's armor. The deck armor of 3 inches was no worse than that of older battleships like the Queen Elizabeth class.
I REALLY hope Wargaming adds the Lexington Class Battlecruiser to the game they were destined to be the the first U.S. Battlecruiser and would technically be the American version of Hood and I know a perfect name for the U.S. Battlecruiser: USS Nebraska seeing her in World Of Warships would be a dream come true!!!!!!

Everyone stop making detonation jokes because the only reason you’re not under Nazi rule is because of those men who gave their lives. It is actually appalling that you try and make light of something that caused immense pain and suffering for so many families. Young men who hadn’t had a chance to do what they wanted with their lives. Fathers who wouldn’t return to their children and husbands who didn’t return to their wives. Imagine your dad was on this ship and you were only 11 only to find out your dad was gone and without a chance to say goodbye. And now realize that this ship was filled with people who just wanted to get back home. Maybe now you see why you shouldn’t make fun of this ship people who gave their lives so you have the freedom to read this. The freedom to pick and choose your own path and not have to worry that you’re going to be executed for not being of a certain religion. You don’t appreciate what those men did, make fun of them and then enjoy the freedom they gave you. Think before you send.

Haza 456 Only Moskva has higher close-range pen among cruisers. 495mm at 5km, and it falls off quicker at range (392 at 10km, 314 at 15) due to the lighter shell. No other cruiser breaks 450; Henri IV and the Germans from Hipper onwards are the closest to.
The point is that Hoods penetration is sooo bad. It needs to be buffed, even Jingles said so.

Its because WoWS won't call anything a battlecruiser because it confuses the peasants. There are 3 Japanese battlecruisers called battleships in game as well.
Wanderer628 shes not ww1 she was commissioned in 1920 and her Armour scheme was modified based on lessons learned from jutland. By the start of ww2 She was in need of a refit to strip and replace her engines and install better AA But other than stupidly weak deck armour her Armour scheme was actually pretty damn good. I think the only thing in game that she would need to be a great t7 Battlecruiser would be Buffed penetration on the Main Guns.

Nagato and Colorado at teir 7 also are from the same or earlier time.

That's all good but the HMS Hood was never classified as a battleship! She was a heavy cruiser designed to intercept with her speed and take down battleships. Never to brawl it out 1v1 with battleships. That's why the Bismarck sunk her. Well one of the many reasons.

I thought Hood had two torpedo turrets with 2 barrels things so that will be 2x2= 4 on each side so that will be two torpedos in each side
WAIT WHAT! You said Hood has slow turrets! What happened to the buff they was supposed to happen that gives if 35 second turret traverse...
hood: has excellent speed, slow turret turn rate and loading rate.... along with a lot of islands in the map, the ships quick speed will get her into trouble rather than out of trouble, by the time you've entered into a zone that requires you to fire and defend yourself, the turret is not ready and the loading is not ready and you are full steam ahead into the enemy's jaws.. the speed is useless when everything else is slow, might as well play it like the warspite and keep her slow so her guns could catch up
