I am form karnataka state in South india. We call this plant as Nugge . It is found in most of the home gardens in our state and also, in most part of south india. The nuts called drumsticks in English are used to prepare sambar & the green leaves with lentils are used to prepare another dish & soup like curry which will be very tasty. The plant can be grown easily & does not require much care.Never seen any plant affected by pests &does not require any external chemical.
Thank you for the info
Good information, I live in Nicaragua and have been growing moringa for a few years. When you dry the leaves the nutrients are increased, for example 100 mg of fresh leaves contains 440 mg of calcium, but 100 mg of dried leaves contain 2003 mg of calcium. You did not mention making a tea out of the dried leaves, the tea tastes great hot or cold, it is not bitter at all and you can add honey if you want a sweet tea.
Thank you for that information!
umm hey i am no expert but i think that is not right, 100 mg of dried takes how much fresh leaves? maybe 400 maybe more so that is where you get the increase of nutrition 100 mg of dry is a lot more wet to start with. everything i have read is you loose nutrition when drying anything fresh is always higher, you would have to take 100 mg dry them then compare and i bet you only get 20 percent dry weight or close to that so 100 mg becomes maybe 20 mg
Great lessons from you Jerry. from the video and your review of nutrients I am a oopr single mom who is already considering this tree as a project/small interprise in my country town since I forsee a lot of mulnutrition during this trying times of the COVID-19 pandemic in my country. Jerry I am inspired by you additions to this superb video. I love Nicaragua from afar, can we discuss more about our countries and the endowments from my inbox if you like? chiratall@gmail.com thank you very much
Thanks for the additional information
@@dennisseeker36 Excellent comment!
It's nice to see the Moringa tree being grown throughout the world as a superfood. I still love in our chicken, fish & vegie soups spiced with onion, ginger, lemon grass, ginger chillies to add more flavor & nutrition. It's also great with shrimp or crabs.cooked in pure coconut milk, onion& ginger.
Yes, thank you. You can add it to many things.
As south asean we used lots of moringa in our food as well.
Thanks Shawn and wife for that added info on processing the leaves into powder. This makes it much easier for me. I'm in Africa and have 2 trees in my compound. The Morringa is like magic. It refuse to die even when you cut the trunk right down to about 5ft; after sometime you will just see fresh leaves coming out again.
Moringa is amazing.
Thank you very much for this video
Amazing
Thanku for this video,i wanted information about how to make moringa powder.😊
I'm from South India. Every one have this tree in their yard. We use everything of this tree for medicinal use. We can propagate
even small branches ! Moringa tree is a life tree. Leaves, flowers, pod, seeds, everything is good for health . That's why in India people live with minimum
Thank you for that info, blessings!
Thank you eoooo much! I’ve seen a few Moringa vids, but, yours was soooo informative, a lot of information was given, thank you again, God BLESS YOU and your families!
You're welcome and blessings to you as well,
You’ve inspired me to try to grow this. Bad news I live in Canada. I originally purchased it to eat the seeds for health benefits then watched your video. Thank you for posting this just out of the goodness of your heart yo help fellow man.
My pleasure!
I live in Malawi and in my area are many moringa trees. The fresh leaves are cooked as vegetables. They are very delicious if mixed with groundnut flour. The powder indeed makes a tasty tea and if added to porridge, very nutritious for children and the elderly.
Thanks for sharing
I lives in Trinidad & Tobago in the Caribbean, here we uses it in many ways , it has lots of good health benifits , can also improve your eyes sight as well
Awesome! Thank you for the info.
You and your wife are doing a great job of spreading natural joy to those who want to plant harvest and use moringa but did not know how to go about it. Thank God for people like you, your knowledge is being shared and you will surely be blessed abundantly.
A suggestion for you all the twigs, leaves fallen around, fruit peels and vegetable peel can be used as garbage enzymes, veggie enzymes to fertilize your garden and keep it pest free and it's totally organic. Please look it up its really amazing and very beneficial.
Thank you for the kind words and the advice
Why not use vinegar instead of bleach as disenfectant to make more organic and natural.
A friend of mine living in rural and poor Zambia, Africa told me that in the few months of the year when regular food is a real challenge, locally grown and processed Moringa powder is mixed with Peanut Butter in equal parts. This is a life saver especially for very young children who would otherwise suffer from malnutrition.
thank you for your comment
Tq for sharing
Man! You surely have nice skin. I just started incorporating Moringa in my daily diet.
And thanks for sharing this much knowledge.
It is a common backyard plant/tree in my homeland the Philippines. We eat it as veggies/salad,etc.it is also a common soup mix with chicken called”tinola”especially by breastfeeding women because it increases lactation plus its nutrients. We also eat the fruit as veggie.
Nice! Very healthy!
How magical., I have a tree about six feet high, we broke the centre, because, it seemed as though something was eating off the longer trunk of the tree, the trunk was. a thin branch, every time the tree something would eat , now its growing nice.
Since trimming it , its growing lovely.I will love two know how to make the powder, thanks.
Thanks
Is this Malunggay or is it different?
yes u can easily propagate it by cuttings only, easier to grow than starting from seeds...i am from Philippines and we have lots of that tree here... and that is really very nutritious and tasteless so children who don't really eat veggies can still enjoy the benefits of it without noticing it if u mix in their foods and drinks 😊
That is very true in regards to propagating. Yes, that's a great way to help your children eat properly.
can it be washed in vinegar? I live in Illinois and only have a few seeds i hope it survives the winter inside my home..
@@sararamos3903
Try it !
What is Winter ?

thank you so much this is an awesome info as i am planning to start a mooring farm in the the Philippines next year when i retire.
Best of luck!
Hey Shawn,
Little secret to where you might wanna try cutting your branches off at next harvest.
Instead of cutting them all down close to the base again, cut up about 15-20inches from the fork. Or the base. This allows for more plumage to pop out all along that 15 inch piece you have just left on tree.
Ok another little trick in your cleaning process I've just learned. Instead of 200° in the oven you can also try 4-5 hrs in the freezer..
They say that will kill anything that's attached to the leaf like larva or eggs or what have you ..
The oven might speed up the hatching time of said eggs or larva and you might have an issue. The bleach deal is not the greatest idea my friend. I believe it is destroying a lot of micro nutrients on a cellular level that are some important properties of the plant were looking for on a health benefit level also.
I'm not a scientist or anything like that!! I just got a bad feeling for some reason when I saw the bleach bath.
Thanks for all the info
Do you then think that dipping the leaves in vinegar would be a better alternative?
Thank you!
You are welcome
Thank you. I needed this info as I have two grown trees in my backyard.

Moringa is very famous in the Philippines...we grew up eating moringa leaves and the fruits...the other day i made moringa omelette...you can also add the leaves to noodle soup and so many more...the moringa fruits should be the young one for cooking mix with other vegetables...
Thanks for sharing
Hi Shawn, I am from the Philippines. I love and eat a lot of Moringa, we call it Malunggay. Added information in propagation of Moringa using stem cuttings, Dig a hole as you said, fill the bottom with sand, scrape the skin off the bottom of the cutting at least 1 inch in length. Place the cutting in the hole then cover it with sand, Cover the sand with the top soil. Cover the top of the cutting with a plastic bag tied to it or with a tin can to protect it from rotting. If planting in water logged areas, just make a mound or heap of sand 1 to 2 feet high, push the moringa cutting in the middle. The roots will eventually make their way to the soil. By the way haven't seen any links of the encapsulating device in your description box.
Thank for the awesome advice! Yes, the link is in my UA-cam description of the video.
@@thehealthawakening would you please share also your drying techniques for turmeric powder. You may add also Rauvolfia Serpentine Supplement Serpentina or Serpentine plant, this is an amazing adaptogen. Thanks a lot, God bless and keep safe always.

Almost every home, especialy in the rural areas in the Philippines, grows Moringa a number of trees around the yard. I planted four branches at the backyard.
Yes, I understand, Philippines has much moringa.
@@thehealthawakening I have someone in Arkansas whom i wanted to send him moringa seeds to grow there, but some federal laws out there won't allow that.
Thank u for the video. I am from the Philippines and have a tree beside my fence . It is proven among the middle class its medicinal value. A neighbor had blended d leaves also ang take a spoonful every morning daily as a substitute for medicine prescribed by her Physician as a treatment for cancer of d ovary due she is not financially capable to buy the medicine after several month she returned to physician clinic to asses her condition and surprised to learn her progressive medication. Please did you add something to the water that was used to wash the moringa leaves before drying?
Yes I did, I used a very small amount of bleach. Some may not like that, but due to being in Honduras and limited supply, that's our only choice.

Thanks for the valuable information. In Bangladesh moringa trees are very common. Most of the people uses only the fruit in curry along with fish. Use of moringa leaves powder in this way may play an important role in malnourished children.
yes, I have heard of organizations using it to provide nutrition.
Thank you, Shawn, very useful information. Where can I get some Moringa tree seeds? You mentioned Amazon but are there other places as well that sell seeds?
I am sorry, I wouldn't be able to help you there. The only place I have searched is Amazon.
Try Etsy
@tningal. Instead of getting the seeds, buy some branches. They will ship
@@anneiconex1473 Hi Anne, where can we buy the branches? Can they be planted in a larger planter pot?

We don’t bleach those leaves especially if you are not using chemical sprays... just shake the leaves and then wash with water 3 times, to get rid of the dust. I ha e lots of those back in the Philippines. I cannot grow here in Northern California due to cool weather.. I envy your tree, they look healthy. Thanks for your video. 🙏 🌹
thank you
This was very good and informative.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks so much Shawn. This is such great information. South Africa

In the Philippines, we called In Malunggay leaves; its great for those who had just gave birth to make more breast milk or her Boy. Make sure to harvest them early Morning whenever the the weather is warm; the leaves Will shrink whenever its cold.
Thank you for your comment in your advice, much appreciated.
thank you for the advise. sharing is caring.
Thanks for the interesting video. How do you know when the leaves are ready for harvesting ?
When the tree is full in growth. I cut it back about 3 times a year. When we are in the dry season, I don't cut it back.
Great advice 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you very much for this information. I will use it and pass it on to family and friends
Please do!
Not sure why you would take all of the branches off?? Looks beautiful! Did you know that plastic leeches nutrients tho. Glass would be better if you have it. Thanks for the info gives. 👍😊
you take all the branches off when harvesting. I don't use moringa for beauty, I use it for a health benefit. Not concerned about the plastic.
The cut branches can be given to friends and neighbors. They can plant it directly on the ground.
Thank you

That is amazing, wish you this best.
Shawn Paul , there’s too many brands that are not good , where can i buy good pure quality ?
Instead of bleach you can use 3% foodgrade hydrogen peroxide which even though is does bleach is actually just hydrogen with an extra oxygen added. It's a safe option. I use it also to clean pesticides off of fruit if I'm not to sure whether they are organic or not. A few drops in bowl is enough.
We no longer use bleach. thanks
Thank you.
You're welcome!
THANKS BUDDY

You can use the wood, and root too.
If you stay off the plant, it will grow seeds too, which gives even more nutrients
We have developed many seed pods and harvested them. Thanks

Glad I helped!
Thank you for sharing this video with us
My pleasure
I bought some Moringa powder and take about 1 TBS per day and it has great benefits and you are so lucky to grow your own. I don't think it would grow that well in Canada because you would have to put it in a pot and bring it indoors in the winter months. Any way thanks for the tips and thanks for Sharing. Stay well. Stay safe.
Thanks for sharing. Yes, we are fortunate to have the ability to have it growing here in Honduras. Blessings!
Shawn Paul, you and your wife did amazing with this video. Thanks so much for the information.
Question: Have you considered using vinegar instead of bleach for cleaning the leaves?
Bleach can often induce breathing problems in the long run.
Just a thought.
Thanks again for sharing your video. 😃
Yes I have. Thank you for the suggestion.
Looks good!!
It does! thanks
Good work and explained it well
Thank you
I would wash this with food grade peroxide not chlorine it would be much healthier.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Yes that is right i also prefer Peroxide than the chlorine. before drying process, its very healthy.
