I am form karnataka state in South india. We call this plant as Nugge . It is found in most of the home gardens in our state and also, in most part of south india. The nuts called drumsticks in English are used to prepare sambar & the green leaves with lentils are used to prepare another dish & soup like curry which will be very tasty. The plant can be grown easily & does not require much care.Never seen any plant affected by pests &does not require any external chemical.

Good information, I live in Nicaragua and have been growing moringa for a few years. When you dry the leaves the nutrients are increased, for example 100 mg of fresh leaves contains 440 mg of calcium, but 100 mg of dried leaves contain 2003 mg of calcium. You did not mention making a tea out of the dried leaves, the tea tastes great hot or cold, it is not bitter at all and you can add honey if you want a sweet tea.

umm hey i am no expert but i think that is not right, 100 mg of dried takes how much fresh leaves? maybe 400 maybe more so that is where you get the increase of nutrition 100 mg of dry is a lot more wet to start with. everything i have read is you loose nutrition when drying anything fresh is always higher, you would have to take 100 mg dry them then compare and i bet you only get 20 percent dry weight or close to that so 100 mg becomes maybe 20 mg

It's nice to see the Moringa tree being grown throughout the world as a superfood. I still love in our chicken, fish & vegie soups spiced with onion, ginger, lemon grass, ginger chillies to add more flavor & nutrition. It's also great with shrimp or crabs.cooked in pure coconut milk, onion& ginger.

Thanks Shawn and wife for that added info on processing the leaves into powder. This makes it much easier for me. I'm in Africa and have 2 trees in my compound. The Morringa is like magic. It refuse to die even when you cut the trunk right down to about 5ft; after sometime you will just see fresh leaves coming out again.

A friend of mine living in rural and poor Zambia, Africa told me that in the few months of the year when regular food is a real challenge, locally grown and processed Moringa powder is mixed with Peanut Butter in equal parts. This is a life saver especially for very young children who would otherwise suffer from malnutrition.

    Hey Shawn,
Little secret to where you might wanna try cutting your branches off at next harvest.
Instead of cutting them all down close to the base again, cut up about 15-20inches from the fork. Or the base. This allows for more plumage to pop out all along that 15 inch piece you have just left on tree.
Ok another little trick in your cleaning process I've just learned. Instead of 200° in the oven you can also try 4-5 hrs in the freezer..
They say that will kill anything that's attached to the leaf like larva or eggs or what have you ..
The oven might speed up the hatching time of said eggs or larva and you might have an issue. The bleach deal is not the greatest idea my friend. I believe it is destroying a lot of micro nutrients on a cellular level that are some important properties of the plant were looking for on a health benefit level also.
I'm not a scientist or anything like that!! I just got a bad feeling for some reason when I saw the bleach bath.

Hi Shawn, I am from the Philippines. I love and eat a lot of Moringa, we call it Malunggay. Added information in propagation of Moringa using stem cuttings, Dig a hole as you said, fill the bottom with sand, scrape the skin off the bottom of the cutting at least 1 inch in length. Place the cutting in the hole then cover it with sand, Cover the sand with the top soil. Cover the top of the cutting with a plastic bag tied to it or with a tin can to protect it from rotting. If planting in water logged areas, just make a mound or heap of sand 1 to 2 feet high, push the moringa cutting in the middle. The roots will eventually make their way to the soil. By the way haven't seen any links of the encapsulating device in your description box.

We don’t bleach those leaves especially if you are not using chemical sprays... just shake the leaves and then wash with water 3 times, to get rid of the dust. I ha e lots of those back in the Philippines. I cannot grow here in Northern California due to cool weather.. I envy your tree, they look healthy. Thanks for your video. 🙏 🌹

In the Philippines, we called In Malunggay leaves; its great for those who had just gave birth to make more breast milk or her Boy. Make sure to harvest them early Morning whenever the the weather is warm; the leaves Will shrink whenever its cold.

    • @thehealthawakening

When the tree is full in growth. I cut it back about 3 times a year. When we are in the dry season, I don't cut it back.

you take all the branches off when harvesting. I don't use moringa for beauty, I use it for a health benefit. Not concerned about the plastic.

Instead of bleach you can use 3% foodgrade hydrogen peroxide which even though is does bleach is actually just hydrogen with an extra oxygen added. It's a safe option. I use it also to clean pesticides off of fruit if I'm not to sure whether they are organic or not. A few drops in bowl is enough.

If you stay off the plant, it will grow seeds too, which gives even more nutrients

I bought some Moringa powder and take about 1 TBS per day and it has great benefits and you are so lucky to grow your own. I don't think it would grow that well in Canada because you would have to put it in a pot and bring it indoors in the winter months. Any way thanks for the tips and thanks for Sharing. Stay well. Stay safe.

Shawn Paul, you and your wife did amazing with this video. Thanks so much for the information.
Question: Have you considered using vinegar instead of bleach for cleaning the leaves?
Bleach can often induce breathing problems in the long run.
    Just a thought.
Thanks again for sharing your video. 😃
