you probably missed one of the best bits of yes i am. The lyrics are very empowering. Looking forward to you doing more. Some Mamamoo news... or rather Mamamoo+ (there is a youtube channel for this, and they are hilarious)... They have formed a subunit. there is a mini album coming with a release on the 30th. I hope jump on the hype bandwagon... I haven't been disapointed in anything they have done so far
Before the 4S4C era starts, Byullie tends to strain her voice a lot because the people they worked with prefer her with a higher pitch (like most other female rappers in K-pop). However, ever since this era, they finally LET her SING more in their tracks with a lower register so that she could be MORE comfortable. This era STARTS with "Paint Me", "Starry Night", etc. 😭♥️
You're so right that nobody sounds like Mamamoo and that they've carved out a unique niche in kpop. Here's some extra info, answers to some of your questions, and I try to clear up your confusion about the Decalcomanie storyline. The guy in Decalcomanie is meant to be generic rather than a womanizing player. As in many MMM MVs each member expresses her own take on the emotions of the song. Using the same male actor for each member indicates that his identity is irrelevant because their feelings in these romantic encounters are what the song is about and are all that matters. Desire and passion are often dangerous, risky business in MMM songs and Decalcomanie is a good example. They have a much more adult approach to love and relationships than is typical in pop music. The kissing sequence with the squishing fruit and blindfold removal is so blatantly and over the top symbolic of the loss of sexual innocence that it's kind of comical imo. Btw, the jazzy music used in the intro and kissing scenes is from their song Memory, a b-side on the album Memory that includes Decalcomanie. When you get a chance check out the lyrics to Yes I Am. YIA is an empowering self-love anthem encouraging people (esp women) to be themselves and love themselves and not worry about things like beauty standards or dressing in the latest trendy fashions. The MV uses what MMM calls a "cute bluffing" concept where each member bluffs being cute in one way or another. MMM made a commentary video for Yes I Am to explain the meaning of the song, the cute bluffing concept and some of the obscure lines like Hwasa's "Me, me, 4 with the Sun," which means I love myself. Highly recommended. Starry Night was shot in New Zealand along with the MV for one of the Yellow Flower album's b-sides called Star Wind Flower Sun, which was written by Solar to express her gratitude to the members, their families, their RBW colleagues, and to moomoos for all their love and support. You're correct that Starry Night represents a new phase in their career. 2018 marks the beginning of MMM's mature era. They started the year with a pre-release single from the Yellow Flower album called Paint Me, which is the theme song for their four album 4 Season 4 Color project. Paint Me is one of MMM's vocal masterpieces and it introduces the concepts and complex cyclical symbolism used throughout 4S4C. Each album had a theme season, color and featured member, who wrote & performed a solo song on "her" album. Hwasa was featured on Yellow Flower and they included the teaser for her solo song Be Calm as a way of introducing that aspect of the 4S4C project. Regarding their solo careers, Mamamoo has occasionally included solo songs by the members since their first album (Hwasa's I Do Me) and they've each done a variety of work outside of MMM from the beginning - OSTs, solo performances, features and collabs. For example, Solar released a series of 8 or 9 solo covers with MVs between 2015-18 that were collected on her album Solar Gamsung (Emotion or Sensitivity). But you're correct that 2018 also marked the start of the members making their official debuts as solo artists. At this point they each have an extensive list of solo songs and albums. If you want suggestions moomoos will be happy to inundate you with recommendations. :)
I never really thought of the fruit crushing that way. I always thought of it as symbolizing the sweetness of a passionate kiss. With variations in fruit showing the flavor of each kiss as different.
Thanks for reacting to MMM, starry night is filmed in New Zealand If you check the lyric of Yes i am , you would know that song is special, it's a empowering song. enjoy !

The last song in Starry Night is Hwasa's solo 'Be Calm' in their 4 seasons 4 colors albums. The first season is Yellow Flower represented by Hwasa, then followed by Red Moon (Moonbyul), Blue's (Solar) and White Wind (Wheein). All for of them have solo in the album they represented.
Gonna try to avoid the novels i usually write on each song in various reactions, but may still go a bit overboard on info here... "Decalcomanie" was indeed one of their turning points in various ways, while also just being a continuation of what they've been doing. They'd started getting recognition in the last two songs they released and eventually got even more with this one. At first it didn't exactly do so well, but with the live performance of it they did at the blue dragon awards (for actors) that year, changing lines to famous lines of actors in the audience it got a lot of renewed interest The theme of the mv is about women blossoming after a first kiss (their pg relative of blossoming after losing virginity, which is what it really means). The guy wasn't importabt at all, just a means to an end, so he disappeared after they got what they wanted (anf making him think he was the hunter here, not the prey) The actor was indeed gay. Their 'field' ceo picked him specifically because of that, feeling the girls would be more comfortable knowing he wasn't interested in them. But they werr still awkward and shy around him, esp wheein, who made fun of herself for it afterwards (on the behind thr scenes mmmtv episode) The fruit explosions are to symbolize losing their innocence while also referencing one of the two art styles called decalcomanie. One is smashing ink between two pieces of paper and using the resulting splash as the art. Here, fruit between two panes of glass did similar The other form is transferring images onto other surfaces, usually furniture. The english word decal comes from this version Koreans have used the term decalcomanie to reference lovers starting to look and act alike after being together so long. This sort of gets shown in the 'mirror dance' segments where you see solar + wheein and moonbyul + hwasa dancing on opposite sides of a mirror frame ...and so much for this being short...
"Yes i am" is definitely one of their many, many empowerment songs, if you check the lyrics... They are talking about the imperfections that keep them from meeting the ultra-strict korean beauty standard, but instead of being upset about it, they embrace these as being part of what makes them unique. The song also tells others to be confident in themselves the same way, to not let your feelings of self worth be dictated by others (this is a recurring theme in some of music and is always much needed) Kudgeon explained the cute bluffing concept so i won't go into that The outfits they wore at the very end were actually the outfits they wore for their solo stages at their first concert (called moosical. The next was moosical curtain call). All four stages were quite dangerous in their own ways
Exactly. THEY'RE NOT exactly doing girl crush concept like many other young girl groups these days. They're JUST doing their stuff but they're still paving the gay.
Lol the most ironic mistake 'gay' haha. And your right, they aren't trying to be girl crush, they are girl crush. So they don't feel forced but gives a natural girl crush vibe
I would actually put them starting to move away from the vintage concept with Um Oh Ah Yeah rather than with Decalcomanie. The title is a French word for a type of artwork that involves folding the paper over to copy the design, hence all the mirroring in the video. Our word decal comes from it. While they use the same actor, it is not intended to portray one guy getting together with each of them. It showing parallel experiences of four woman having their first serious kiss, spending the night implied. Blindfolds coming off, crushed fruit metaphors for sexual awakening. The slow section is actually another song Memory that has it's own video. The bridge of Yes I Am is them talking about the narrow beauty standards of idol groups and how they don't fit them but they are happy with the way they look. Starry Night was filmed in New Zealand. Their song Star Wind Flower Sun (written by Solar, Moonbyul writing her rap as always), which is about their fellings for their fandom and each other was filmed here as well. Also Where the Wind rises a Solar cover and Oneus's A Song Written Easily.
Also, on your comment about 'they are girl crushes but don't exactly do girl crush as a concept': This is so absolutely true. These women din't exactly do concepts as the kpop world sees it, they're just always themselves, though they do tend to do themes (like the range of emotions each title track in the 4 seasons project is to represent) Much of their discography is shoehorned into the 'girl crush' concept, though, because the industry is so used to needing labels for anything. Similar to how the group doesn't use 'main', 'lead' or 'sub' to describe positions but much of the industry tries to label solar 'main vocalist' because she is the one that does most of the belting in their songs. She has frequently tried to correct that image ('we're all just vocalists. None of us are main or all of us are') but it's still constantly said (As an aside, moonbyul has called all three other members 'our main vocalist', usually when their voice cracked, they hit a wrong note or otherwise messed up) Fairly early on, solar had said she wants them to be recognized as their own genre, no matter what type of music they do, it's 'oh yeah, that's mamamoo'. And they have definitely reached that point. Many people say they have their own unique feel... as in you know it's a mamamoo song, no matter what type of song it is Also, once when asked about their concept, hwasa answered 'woman'... much of their music revolves around female empowerment and self empowerment. This is the legacy they want, uplifting everyone to be the best they can be
"Starry night" was the title track for the first in a quartet of albums for their 4 seasons 4 colors project. In said project, they released 4 albums in the span of (just over) a year, each album representing a color, a season and a member of the group (by giving her a solo song on it). All four had released solo songs previously, either on other albums or just fun, solo uploads, but nothing really considered official. Wheein was the first to debut as a soloist, during the "starry night" era with her song "easy" I'll list the 4 seasons project at the end of this comment "Starry night" was filmed in new zealand and while there they also filmed for two other mvs: the promoted b side "star wind flower sun" (named for symbols for each member, said symbols also being used in album titles) which is a sing dedicated to the fans and thr rest of the group, originally written by solar, and "where the wind rises", a cover of an older song solsr did for her ongoing 'solar's emotions' project, a series of covers she does kind of in her own stule, each song being meaningful to her in some way You mentioned the choreo here and up until "gogobebe" mamamoo always created their own choreo (with the help of two in house choreographers). They mostly created movements that wouldn't interfere with their ability to sing, so many kpop fans started saying things like 'mamamoo only sings so well because they have easy choreo'. Starting with "gogobebe" they began using big name choreogrsphers to help make harder dances while still singing live. An interesting bit on the "starry night" choreo is that it includes sign language. They actually sign 'starry night' during part of the chorus (wheein took sign language in school, hwasa picked french. Both have found ways to use these in their careers) As for the 4 seasons project, here is a list of their albums with the title tracks, promoted b sides and solo songs in them: Yellow flower: spring, yellow, hwasa Title track: "starry night", promoted b side: "star wind flower sun", solo: "be calm". It also included the pre-release "paint me" that sort of described the theme of the project. All these sings have mvs Red moon: summer, red, moonbyul (her album used her family name, moon, instead of her symbol, star) Title track: "egotistic", promoted b side: "sleep in the car" (no mv, fun live stages), solo: "selfish" (featuring her good friend seulgi of red velvet. This song was also byul's solo debut) Blue;s: autumn, blue, solar (the 's' stands for sun, but not sure why they didn't name the album blue sun. Star wars could have been a reason, since they have a faction called blue suns, but really unsure) Title track: "wind flower" (severely slept on, gorgeous song), promoted b side: "no more drama" (no mv, great performance in pikicast), solo: "hello" (only project solo without an mv, but fans pretend the doubles pole dance video on solarsido, solar's yt channel, is the official video) White wind: winter, white, wheein Title track: "gogobebe", promoted b side: "waggy" (no mv, awesome and hilarious live stages), solo: "25"
. Yes ma'am(s) Thank u lots!!!🤧☺ The Yes I Am lyrics give me so much self appreciation! Mamamoo keep me loving myself I swear, thnx fir you reaction lavs I'm glad u had a blast 😁😌😌
Interesting fact, there is actually two cuts of the Decalcomanie video. The original version, the guy was rather aggressive with Solar in the elevator. Moomoos went nuts (Solar was fine with it) but RBW was forced to release an edited version of the video. There is a side by side comparison of the two cuts that the channel K-pop Class released on YT.
For new Moos, the guy's gay so we shouldn't criticize him. I think Solar wanted to show roughness can be sexy, but it came out wrong and it looked like she was being forced instead of aroused. R@pe and @ssult victims might get triggered by it and the MV got backlash. Tbf, it did look like Solar was struggling to get away from him, not wanting to be closer. Moos requested RBW to modify it and they did. I watched the original version, and it's not like she looks like she's actually in danger, but her facial expressions indicated fear and/or nervousness _(kinda looked like she didn't consent),_ so I can see why it was triggering to most viewers.
'Decalcomani' is song about first sex experience. the man means 'a symbolic man' so doesn't matter same guy on video. And flowers bloom shows symbol of the moment that girl changes to women.
Some tidbits about Decalcomanie... the word is French for a stencil and appears to have been adopted into Korean in the same way and with the same meaning as the German doppelganger into English. The behind the scenes showed Moonbyul letting go of the guy after the "kiss" with a look of pure disgust on her face. Then a screening of the video for the girls showed Solar getting bent out of shape about Moonbyul's scene, saying, "What's this?! What's this?! You brat!" And Moonbyul _apologized,_ like she had actually done something wrong.
Please react to mamamoo Aze Gag! It's a song about dad jokes but they're so dorky that probably would make you laugh! Thank you so much for the video 🥺💙
Two marks to the kissing scenes in Decalcomanie: The boy is amusician of an other RBW group and he is strict gay. In some Videos (making of ...) you can see, that there are no real kisses - more than 20 cm between the both acting persons
I heard he was gay but I thought he was an actor. What RBW group are you talking about? He's not a member of Onewe and they're the only RBW group with musicians. Is he a member of the in-house orchestra they use for recordings and concerts and if so do you know what instrument he plays?
Oh good grief. The Decalcomonie guy isn't a womanizer. He's a placeholder representing the ideal man for what each part of the story needs. Only stupid people think that using one actor to be a placeholder is about someone promiscuous. Do you have the faintest clue how much it costs to film a video like this? Having one guy fulfilling different roles tells the story, without having to pay a bunch of actors for each member of the group. That's all it is--a cost-cutting device. I wish people would stop being stupid by overthinking the use of one actor this way in a music video. And my goodness, how can you miss what the video is about? It's about sexual awakening! DUH!

I am fairly sure that Starry Night was filmed in New Zealand (but I could be wrong).
'Decalcomani' is song about first sex experience.
the man means 'a symbolic man' so doesn't matter same guy on video.
And flowers bloom shows symbol of the moment that girl changes to women.
You guys were so lucky to see Hwasa live, that must have been the most beautiful sight ever :D
You can see mamamoo dance practice... very different from the other idol group
You brat!" And Moonbyul _apologized,_ like she had actually done something wrong.
mamamoo🤍

New Zealand
Looks like MAMAMOO is now just two ladies, not four anymore ! SOLAR and MOONBUYL !
Please react to mamamoo Aze Gag! It's a song about dad jokes but they're so dorky that probably would make you laugh! Thank you so much for the video 🥺💙
Please, react to shutdown of Moonbyul. Thanks in advance
He's an actor, not a musician of another RBW group
@@djvillan Thanks! That's what I thought.
DUH!
Mamamoo= art ♥️🔥♥️🔥
