Control was incredible, not to mention his music videos
It was especially amazing as a Joy Division fan
@@TheBadBuffalo same
That movie singlehandedly introduced me to Joy Division.
#DepecheMode
@@jeshkam Absolutely
His photography from the 80's Post-Punk scene are incredible
Glad to see someone comment on his photography. It's actually how I was introduced to him!
It's good to see people talking about Robbie Robertson so fondly. Very timely video.
The Last Waltz.
Robbie Robertson
July 5th, 1943 to August 9th 2023.
The contributions to the arts, many.
Beautiful choices. The films on the top shelf deserve some love.
Cold War and Sweet Smell of Success are sooooo great.
A photographer first, then video director, and then movie director. His work with black and white photography was very distinctive in the rock scene during the 80s and 90s. I liked his movie "Control" about the singer of Joy Division. And I also liked the photos he made for Bon Jovi during the 90s as well as the B & W videoclip he directed for the song "One" (U2).
Control is a great film, and The American is one of the most underrated films of the last decade.
They're both great, especially The American. A Most Wanted Man is also excellent.
I remember watching Control on the day I later learned Robin Williams committed suicide. And of course A Most Wanted Man has one of the final performances of Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Agreed about "The American." I think its Corbijns best film.
Add me on as regards 'The American'.
Love Anton's voice, I could listen to it all day.
This is why I love Criterion and the internet, I had never heard of this Cold War film, I just watched the trailer, it looks very interesting.
I’m so delighted that someone has picked Cold War. I think it’s the most romantic film of the new century that takes place in the old century! Just an incredible movie… So glad it was Anton Cobrijn! ❤😂
You're in for a treat.
I envy your first time watch. Took my breath away.
@@claytonshank6871 Saw it the other day, absolutely beautiful, I did not want this film to be so short, the world it created was stunning, definitely buying it on the next sale.
I hope you watch Cold War soon. It's worth making a special night of it.
Watched The American again recently. Some beautiful, stark photography...
So great to see Anton here!
forever in debt to his priceless advice
Such a wonderful energy. Hope Mr. Corbjin releases more films soon.
His Depeche Mode videos... 🤟❤️🤟
Its no good is so funny cause Anton is hitting on the backup singers then drops the mike.
I hope this means The American is going to get the Criterion treatment. What an absolutely beautiful film. A modern western, a spy thriller, and a minimalist character study. Give it a look Criterion team. Anton deserves it.
Yes! Yes, please!
When is "Control" coming to the Criterion ? :)
Superb selections, eclectic and poetic. Bravo.
Same comment I always leave. Make the videos longer! Edit less and keep in all of the ranting! It’s so fun to hear the memories of why people are attached to movies are even just explaining every little thing they’ve enjoyed about it (whether it be a detailed list or just “that one fight scene/monologue has been cemented in my memory”, or even “my ex girlfriend showed me this and yadda yadda yadda”. Honestly these videos alter my to-watch list more than i need them to, but I’m not complaining
Been waiting for someone to pick out Sweet Smell of Success. My top all-time favorite.
My first criterion. Love it. It can look spectacular in 4k.
Masterclass in dialogue.
Love his work, nice surprise here
Hug this man, he made two all time classics
The Last Waltz is one of my dad's favorite movies.
Anybody who can comment favourably on the all time classic Everybody's Talkin' by Harry Nilsson has my vote.
Funny how the auto-generated subtitles for this video automatically switch to Dutch. As a Dutch-speaking Belgian, though, it's kinda confusing. Great selection by Corbijn, by the way.
This man's music videos are incredible. I've heard music videos may have more set-ups and edits than a traditional feature film, anyone who can master 3mins like Corbijin is a top tier fella
Amazing. Almost choked on my drink when I saw Anton was in the closet, and then he picked a couple of my favourite films. If only he'd picked the Rohmer box set too... lol
Fotógrafo revolucionario, visionario magnífico el maestro Corbijn❤
I finally know how to say his name
Hey! Wait! I’ve got a new complaint… Around @1:33 the Tatí box set is missing, which suggests he picked it up. It bugs me that CC edits out certain movies from these clips.
Why can't these videos be longer?
I wonder if there’s a queue outside to go in?
"Behind the Wheel" is 💯
Midnight Cowboy yesss. Last scene - so heartbreaking.
One if the best photographers of any century ;)
Release Control on Criterion
A photographer who made musician portrait photography recognisably an art form, through integrity, intelligence as well as huge work ethic and aesthetic sensibility. The fact he now looks like Jeremy Corbyn is a bonus : D
This dude is one of my favourite directors, I hope he makes more stuff soon.
That black bag, ohhh
I haven't seen any content with Anton for a good couple of years and forgot how surprisingly low key he is. His picks are top tier. Finally someone chose Cold War. It's a wonderful movie, Pawel did a great job and that dance scene lives in my head rent free.
why, other thoughts pay rent? j/k
looooove you, love youuuuu, love you. thanks for all your beauty, millions examples of beauty in this world
Cold War is a great pick, highly recommend it
Love him
❤❤❤
Good taste.
Life is an underrated film from him imo
RIP Robbie
The Maestro 👏👏👏
RIP Robbie Robertson
Loads of symbolism in his work.. seems quite dark
This guy shot the Joshua Tree Cover among many other things.
He had Some Like It Hot in his hands. Why was that edited out?
appears to be
So kind...
Uhhhh. Very nice. 😯
Lets see what he will pick… 👀
Did you hide the mic behind him?
From what I've seen with these, I think if I was in that little room I would not pick anything, I would not know anything in there.
RIP Robbie.
Coincidentally Robbie Robertson passed very recently
Criterion miss once challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)
Some YoYo Stuff inside that closet!
Hey he slipped in Some like it Hot too
Nice content
Ah, Cor bine, the J is silent.
Did he steal Some Like It Hot? 😂
Hell yes
Thumbnail looks like he’s robbing the closet
TOO MODEST PICK MORE FILMS MR CORBIJN!!!!!!!!!
didnt he garb the tati collection, it disappered.
Geit
Every day closet is very boring. 😢. Merci beaucoup from Paris France.
This is obviously supposed to be like Amoeba’s “What’s in my bag?” But the selection is so small that anyone with a passing interest in cinema will have seen pretty much every film anyone picks. The whole reason I’d watch it is to learn new things but that has never happened so I guess that’s enough of this for me. 🤷🏾♂️
First closet comment.
His rock videos for Depeche Mode are great. His movies, not so much.
Because you don't have any taste.
