- The first game was one of the most exciting of the entire season. Would the second game live up to the hype? It sure would, with an entertaining high scoring affair.

NO OTHER PROGRAM IN ANY SPORT THAT HAS AS MANY FANS AS KENTUCKY!!! GR8NESS!!!! I was at this game all blue, but Indiania had a pretty good showing. NOT as much as UK though.
im an indiana fan, but i have to say, even though this was a loss, this was the most exciting game of that tournament, all props to Kentucky, was a real fist fight until the last 10 minutes
This was such a sweet tournament for Kentucky because they got to send three arch rivals in Indiana, Louisville, & Kansas asses packing during their title run!
GBeret83 fuck you
@@saunders317 , Ouch that really stung. And said with such hate and disdain too, as to invoke the ghost of Bobby Knight. Shiver, shiver, shiver......................I got the all over fidgeties on that one, LMFAO.
Matt Saunders 😂🤦♂️😂🤦♂️ SALTY
Let’s not forget the buzzer beater in the regular season a year earlier
@@SammyBoy818 Yes, but WHO ended up gettin the last laugh big boy?
I was there on my birthday, for my 16th birthday, during the sweet 16, watching my favorite team kick ass
This, for my money, was the best game of the tournament. After that incredible first game in Bloomington, the stakes were even higher - UK out for revenge, IU out to repeat. And the play on both sides was incredible - IU played probably as well as we could have, and we STILL lost by 12.
UK got their toughest test of the tourney - and came through with a performance that would beat lesser NBA teams on a given night. Damned impressive - and I'm a Hoosier fan.
one of the best teams I've ever watched.
sad that they left, miss this team
@Ryan I., I've said this many times over the past few years, for as talented as Kentucky's starting five was with this team, I don't think they win the National Title without the play they got from Darius Miller coming off the bench as their 6th man, IMO. He was the most talented and unheralded 6th man in the entire country that season. GO CATS!!!
@@GBeret83 Agree 100 percent. He was the glue guy. Great player.
@@cryptix808 did Darius miller win 6th man of the year that sesson?
typical uk fan. we were more than willing to go to lexington next year, and that was made very clear. the issue was calipari not wanting to travel to bloomington again, which was also made very clear by not only cal but uk's athletic director. and i cant believe i just read a uk fan calling another fan "arrogant". wow... got a good laugh out of that, thanks guy.
Never get tired of this
Most people don't realize it but four of the five UK starters were first round picks, the other (Doron Lamb) was a second rounder. That team was amazing.
I still don't get how Lamb didn't make it in the NBA when I see so many guards who shoot poorly and sit the bench. Then again, Jones had some stand out games in the NBA, but hasn't been in it for years while guys like Gabriel, Knox, and Richards are. And MKG was picked way too high.
That's UK vs UofL which is, at least in my opinion, nowhere near the rivalry as IU UK, It's still a huge huge rivalry but IU UK is historic and has been going on for many years, it's simply just a gigantic rivalry/game every year in college bball. You have to take things into account from last year also. UK was #1, we were undefeated, the passion for basketball at IU is at its highest right now, probably the highest its ever been.
Finally. A civilized and mature IU fan. Well, they made the deal after Kentucky had already scheduled a team on the proposed date so what could they have done? I never understood why IU fans were so up in arms about a neutral site series when it was on neutral courts from 1991-2005 so it's not like it would have been a first.
Anthony Davis was on the bench for 95% of the 1st half lol. This game could of been a blow out
IT WOULDNT BE CBS SPORTS WITHOUT JIM NANTZ..THE MAN IS A GREAT SPORTSCASTER.
You do realize that their is indeed a trophy case just for the game. It has a picture of the Watford shot in it, and the net. And no, we will never understand what a win like that means because we've never sucked so much for the better part of 20 years. Congrats
I rather have a championship than the "best shot in regular season ever."
It was really classy of Indiana to not keep fouling at the end of the game when they were down 12. Much respect. I had never seen KY shoot free throws like they did in that game.
I'm from Tennessee, but i live in Louisville, both fanbases are pretty much over the edge. I was on Broadway after Louisville won the title, and i was in Louisville when UK beat them in the Final Four, it was crazy both times. I see it first hand where i live.
this is the only thing i will agree with you on.... i am a huge iu fan and i was glad to see knight go!
As a kentucky fan, this game was so sweet to revenge lol.
Maybe so, but that Wolford shot was sooo sweet!
It was a great game for sure, but Louisville played us very hard as well. Still, your Hoosiers are a much better team this year than UK. As a lifelong UK fan, I wish we could've played another game last year. These games were awesome and you should be proud of the effort of your Hoosiers!
Scared lmao, IU caught alotta teams off guard last year being that they've been off the radar so long plus the help of the notourious assembly hall refs you had a decent season.Calipari has alotta respect for Tom Cream and told the team to fall back in both games just as he did in the championship game against Kansas.Kentucky front line would crush Zeller and Woffard this year you better be lucky
Bottom line during the 2011-12 season, Indiana won the game at home and Kentucky won the game that mattered!
SO true and Indiana fans are still replaying the watford shot. And arent smart enough to realize UK won a title that year.
@@hobsonschoice8649 , Go back and look at the replay of the game earlier in the season in December, 2011 at Assembly Hall in Bloomington, and Kentucky had one of, if not the poorest offensive performance they'd had all season. They weren't making outside shots, they weren't making free throws, they fell behind Indiana by 10 points late in the 2nd-half, and with all that it still took Watford hitting a "hail Mary, full of grace, the lord is with thee" 25 or 30 footer at the buzzer to beat the Cats that night. Unfortunately for Indiana, they ran into a much more accurate reflection of how good this Kentucky team really was here in the Sweet Sixteen in "Catlanta".
@@GBeret83 just wondering how many fellow Cats fans noticed that UK's first bucket (Jones' three at 4:17) in this game mirrors Watford's famous shot. What an awesome coincidence.
And Indiana got rings for that... As ridiculous as Bob Knight on the sideline
anyone realize ky beat everyone on their schedule that year. Vandy and indiana were their 2 loses and we beat both at some point. The way the cats played in the tournament was dominant. Everyone played their role. Fun team to watch.
Trust me i think UK is a great program to the only thing that bothers me is there coach Calipari. Im just not a Calipari fan, but hey i hope Davis and Kidd-Gilchrist both do great in the NBA. It just kills me to watch the UK and IU rivalry end just because they cant decide where to play.
I was at that game, it was crazy. UK got some payback and it was a great time!
I agree. I was really sad that IU lost but they had a good showing. Scoring 90 against UK was nice and if UK hadnt been an absurd 35/37 from the free line it could have been another buzzer beater
One of our offensive focal points last year was to drive the ball and try to get to the free throw line, and the officials that night had VERY quick whistles. It took defense out of the equation for both teams...That's why it was such a high scoring game.
Kentucky is the commonwealth. Not a bunch of rich folks. We consider our players as family. We would rather go see them play than on vacation. Im not filthy rich and I was at this game!!! WE ARE THE BIG BLUE NATION!!!! CATS!!
This is how you should play basketball nightly, none of this defensive constipation. Let the athletes be skilled and graceful not shut down and neutered.
i was at this game and baylor game... this was a great game so much intensity and electricity
Kentucky had so much talent to where only one or two players were required to have an above average game they did'nt have to foce anything like IU did.IU made a clear effort to prevent Davis and Jones from dominating the inside which would have led to a blowout so Lamb and Miller step up with outside shooting.Davis did not get to showcase his full talent not only is Davis more athletic than zeller but he also has an outside shot Not to mention he effortlessly blocked zeller late in the game
Indiana was Kentucky's first loss, but the game that pissed John Calipari off the most was UK vs. Arkansas-Little Rock in Louisville, because at halftime, UALR had a 30-27 lead although Kentucky stormed back and won 73-51, had a huge decisive edge on rebounding but had 19 turnovers.
If only more college games could be played at this pace.. This was a shoot out pure and simple.. I know some will say the defense sucked, but I see 2 teams that executed on offense at a high level and put on a great show... I hate freaking games that end in a 60-56 score.. This was a 40 minute game that ended with a NBA score. That's what I like to see: right or wrong.
dude we'll be fine, we're young and i figured we'd lose to duke but come march we'll be able to beat duke and could be possible championship contenders. and ya next year we will be unreal!
This UK team would be the best team this year by 30...hands down...this team was amazing...
The fact that Tom Pritchard played 13 minutes in this game and Oladipo only played 20, and IU was still in the game until the final minutes is amazing. As a born and raised diehard Hoosier I had to tip my hat to the Kentucky players' composure with their free throws. Great game by both teams.
I f05😮

True Last year's UK team was a rare and one of a kind team that had a great combination of athleticism and fundamental for a calipari team. And that's what it's takes in today's baskeball. But Knight would ruin last year's UK team. With Knight either you fit his program or you sit the bench.Calipari finds a way to make the program fit the players and last year it just happen to fit perfectly. This year their struggling but could make a run in tourney.
I am a Kentucky fan but I will say that Indiana is going to be great next year. Zeller, Watford, and Oladipo are coming back. And now they got a true point guarf Yogi Ferrell and a pretty good forward named Jeremy Hollowell to spark them off the bench.
Both teams shot the ball extremely well, but Kentucky's defense (cases in point: Davis staying out of foul trouble, and Jones not lagging around offensively and defensively) was a major reason reason why they won.
MKG played this game like he was possessed man I tell you. GO CATS!!!!
This shows how good this Cat team was. Indiana had two players with career games, shot over 50%, scored 90+ points, and still lost by 12. + was never in the game 4 real!!!! lmao Go Big Blue!!! Shout out to the Louisville Cards as well. We represent what that orange is about in the Ky! Whatever anybody else aspires to be in bball Ky is already that!
I here that more than any other thing about UK. That its not UK they hate, but Cal. I hate that because everyone has the entirely wrong view of Cal but I digress. Yeah it REALLY sucks this rivalry was stopped. It would have been the marquee game of the season. IU will be the top ranked team and UK in the top 5. Hopefully they can meet in the tournament like last year, maybe in the final four. That would be awesome. Anyways even though you dont like Cal, I respect your opinion and agree mostly
Even though Indiana lost this game, I loved there fight against a great Kentucky team. All respect to Kentucky they are a great team but Indiana fought hard and almost won the second time vs 1 national champion Kentucky
EVEN THOUGH I LIVED IN INDIANA FOR QUITE A FEW YEARS I AM BLUE TO THE CORE. PAY BACK IS HELL HOOSIERS. WE WON WHEN IT MATTERED.
the hoosier curse will continue!! 8 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS BABY!!!!!
Don't forget Miller, he was a second rounder as well.
Did anyone else notice UK's first basket in this game is eerily similar to the shot that beat them in the first game?
I honestly believe this was the best team BBN faced last year. They could win it this year :o
Making the sweet 16 is an accomplishment for a team that's gone 6-25,10-21, and 12-20. Crean had to rebuild a program from the ashes and did a hell a good job doing so in just 4 years. And to be ranked in the top 5 two seasons after being last in the big ten that's an ACCOMPLISHMENT!!!
Well this post didn't age well
Only team that has ever built a shrine for a Sweet 16 team too. Hell, they would have built the shrine if they had lost in the first round.
I will have to agree that team was so perfectly balanced everyone fit their positions perfectly.Which is something that could be a problem this year similar talent but you got 5 explosives players that constantly need the ball at all times. You've go no Lamb or Miller that can move without ball.Noel I think is more physical than Davis but not nearly as fundamentally sound.
That's what I loved bout this team, they didn't care about highlight reels, or flashy dunk, only thing that mattered was winning...
Found myself watching Calipari and Crean pace the court as much as I did the game
agreed. It's a got damn American tradition.
Kentucky won this game at the free throw line (22 more free throws than Indiana), because Indiana shot 52% (36 of 69), and Kentucky shot 48% (31-64). Other opponents which Kentucky won against at the free throw line were Louisville (20-62 FG, Kentucky was 17-57) & Alabama (48% shooting, 24-50 FG, UK was 22-51 43%). Both games were at Rupp Arena.
"Indiana Basketball: We beat Kentucky on a last second--hey, come back!"
This is proof of why the IU/UK series needs to continue, and why it's such a shame Cal turned down Crean - that deal (2 games at Lucas Oil Stad., one at Rupp, one at the Hall) was a great compromise. Both sides got what they wanted.
Why he turned it down I still can't say. I won't be one of the IU fans who says "he's scared of us", because what's there to be scared of? He won a national championship. He has Rupp Arena as his homecourt. He's on top of the world. A shame he won't make it happen.
What a great season! To end the IU and UL seasons on the way to #8... Priceless! GO CATS!!!
A meaningless win? I'm not an Indiana fan,but come on now. Kentucky got the last laugh when it matter the most. But that shot will go down as one of the greatest in regular season history .For two reason: one Kentucky should have been an undefeated team. It's crazy how well this team flowed together the chemistry was so great. The Second and most important it made Indiana basketball relevant again. This win brought confidence in Indiana basketball after Kelvin Sampson killed the program.
Indiana brought their A game here (They shot well and hit their free throws) but Kentucky was just that much better and to their credit they missed only 2 free throws.
No I don't it's unfortunate that Noel got injured but still both of these players need their space to develop at the college level you have enough competition competing against other teams you don't have time to be competing with your own teamates. But with Cauley starting their offense will improve and they will have more balance but still unfortunate for Noel
last second shot to beat the "#1" team in america.....yup best shot in the history of college basketball =)
Bwahahahahahaha! All your comments... Maybe the best shot in your pathetic school history... How relevant do you feel now!? Hahahahahaahahahaa!
I really loved this game.
Jones was just as talented as anyone on the team
u don't understand...not only was it about the win..it was about the moment, the circumstance and the fact that it was against the #1 team in the country..its ok to be butt hurt still from that b/c it will forever be one of the greatest moments in college basketball history..regular seaons game or even it was a preseaon game, it would still be great
Indiana fan here and we beat them at they home town that year but they got us when it counted most Christian cody will yogi and my boy oladipo and hulls we love u guys thanks go iu
I think I just got cancer.
The game was played at assembly hall that season get your shit right dude😂😂😂

Championships won by Crean: 0

"And the KENTUCKY coronation is complete!"
if Indiana has Verdell Jones, this game would have ended drastically different.
Sure do, I should have Kansas-UNC up sometime tomorrow. I'll be uploading other games from the tournament in the next couple of weeks as well.
35-37 from the line. Remarkable
Let's look at the 2011 NCAA tournament when Kentucky was in the final four and Louisville got eliminated in the first round by Morehead State. 2013 was the 1 year in probably 50 that Louisville could say they were better than Kentucky.
Kentucky proved that you can challenge a high-volume offense team like Indiana, or Michigan by being very tough defensively.
It was actually a good game plan for teams to foul UK instead of give up the easy baskets in the paint. Watch all these games and the majority of the fouls were in the paint. It was either foul UK or give them the easy basket.
Keep doing good in the sports that no one really cares about
Jones does that because he is BIGGER and TALLER than him and played power forward. I never said he would be a superstar, BUT he very easily could be. Remember he was a superstar at UK while taking only the 4th amount of shots. You can be a superstar and not score 20 points a game. You do realize MKG was not only the fastest, but most efficient player in transition last year according to EVERYONE and their numbers. MKG is as good an athlete as Shabazz.
I hope the Indiana Hoosiers will make it back to the final four in 2020
Okay all you have to do is watch Shabazz Muhammad a similar built small forward to MKG on UCLA this year and you will see the motor skills that MKG is lacking that could possibly prevent him from being a superstar in the NBA,Terrance Jones can flat out jump.MKG gets offensive rebound putbacks,Terrance Jones gets offensive rebound putback dunks!!!!!!
This game is as high of a level as you will see college basketball played these days. Pros on both teams.
One team had pro(s). The other eer umm singular.
@@michaelstilger8410 "Singular" Oladipo and Zeller from Indiana both went top 5 in the same draft you clown.
That stare of coach drew said it all “no matter who wins this game we’re fkd!” 😂😂 29:27
What if this team had all came back!! just wishful thinking. Would have loved to seen them against the Ville, after a year of that experience for Louisville
.
Lets just agree to disagree. I gave you a thumbs up on accident trying to hit reply. We are both UK fans anyway right? Neither one of us is going to back off what we think. Lets just agree that UK last year was the most athletic team in history. I really do believe that.
to be fair, it was a great shot.
pritchard's botched dunk was the momentum swinger in the game. daammn it priiittcharrrd
The best part about this is they showed that stupid shot that beat us all year. Cal said that was definitely motivation going into the tournament, especially this game.
Cry about it.
Dude Calipari himself said MKG was not only the fastest player but also the most explosive on the team. Dude it only APPEARS that Jones can jump higher because he is taller. MKG had a higher vertical which means he could jump higher. Whoever has the higher vertical can jump higher. Who ever is taller can REACH higher. There is a big difference.
I hope to God you dont really believe that. You do realize our out of conference schedule, without YOU ALL, is top 5 difficulty. We play Maryland, Duke, Baylor, Notre Dame, Louisville. I am sure Cal is SO worried about ending that home winning streak that he cancelled the game with you all out of fear. Cmon on, thats just stupid. I am glad you all are back but act like you have been here before. I know its been since the 80s since you all were relevant and all but chill.
and by the way i will take an elite 8 win over a regular season win anyday GO KENTUCKY!!!!!!!.
It's sad that IU fans are obessed with that shot. Especially after we beat you in Sweet Sixteen.
Funny, cause after this afternoon UK is 2-1 this year against UL in sports. You guys have been decent/good for a few years. Good for you. UL finally wins a basketball title and you guys act like it happens every year. And to top it all off, your fans never stop comparing what you all do to UK.
and like i said for uk keeps changing the series rules to favor them.... the indiana athletic department have not ever requested change in the series. you can drop all the heavy weights on ur schedule and go undefeated ... but hopefully we see you in the tourney again this yr. cuz you can not beat us!
Great response. Way to look intelligent.
Im a UK fan but who cares if the IU fans were rude people act like it doesnt happen everywhere its ashame these teams wont play next year
i love my cats but if they do not get it together pretty fast it could be a short season for us but next year will be a different story if they land randle to go with the class that they have coming in
You do realize Indiana did make a sort of "trophy case," If you will. They had Watford's jersey and the ball he shot to hit the 3, and pictures of the shot. It's very unclassy, I know you all have been very bad up until last season, but you all needed to wait until you did something amazing, we didn't make any monument to any upsets we pulled when we had Tubby.
HOOSIERS was a good movie...thats all ive got nice to say about indiana b-ball
The reason Jones had more dunks and oops is because he is 5 or so inches taller. That has nothing to do with who can jump higher. Thats why MKG having the higher vertical means he is more explosive athletically. Jones is much more versatile then MKG and can do more on the court. MKG is faster. MKG is not lacking skill wise, he was drafted number 2. They did not draft him that high on hustle alone. I agree though that overall Jones has more talent.
Losing by nine combined points is not an ass kicking.
And if Kentucky had made their free throws in the final minute of that December meeting, IU would never have won.
That was a great, high-scoring game, but I really felt like poor officiating had a lot to do with that. I know I'm going to catch flack from Indiana fans because of the free throw discrepancy, but Kentucky has been on the short end of that stick many times before, too...It's just part of the game.
actually, it's 2 in 20 and 3" in over 20" (21). the 1993 team lost to kansas in the elite 8. the 2002 team lost to Maryland in the championship.
