Tim was in a horrific car accident years back, thats why his voice is like that. But I met Tim back in 2013 in Virginia, & he is one of the most down to earth ppl Ive had the chance to meet. #DMB
Incredible guitar player. His playing, tone, effects usage and feel on the Radio City stuff is the best I've ever heard on acoustic. I was totally slayed by those cd's and dvd's. I still watch those all the time. Never checked out TR3...will do that now.
In my opinion Tim Reynolds is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time. I'm a huge DMB fan and Tim just adds soo much to an already dynamic group. What's more is his "less is more" strategy just by using a simple amp rig with some precise pedal usage. Another thing that helps his tone is that he plays extremely loud! When I saw DMB this past summer, during the soundcheck I could hear the guitar tech test his rig out and it was blaring, without even coming through the front of house!
tim you are truly one of the greats your version of ohio at the roxy pub was incredible!!! jaw dropping left me stunned! the playing, phrasing, tone everthing about it WOW!!!!!!
When I first started watching Tim in the late 80s , he was playing an Ibanez arch top (Joe Pass model) he had 2 pedals a delay and a distortion, into an old Peavy . That peavy was a 1x12 solid state combo . I dare anyone to go out and play a gig on that setup !! Lol . He had a great sound !! For real , and he killed . I mean some nights watching him it was religious . Great musician !
Tim said he was watching a video Paca Delucia playing guitar. That's so crazy because the first time I heard Paca Delucia, I thought wow that sounds a lot like some of Tim's solos with Dave especially on L@LC
I'm not a jam band guy. I know a lot of people are...that's totally cool. I finally got on board with DMB when a friend introduced me to Dave and Tim. Seen those guys twice. Also seen TR3 twice. I love TIm. Whatever he's doing just works for me. This video is maybe outdated...but awesome nonetheless. Thank you.
Tim's explanation about his voice: "In 1980 I was a in a car accident that severed the nerve to the left vocal chord, so for a while I could barely even talk. So that gives it a rougher sound and I struggle with it sometimes because it gets tired easy, like if I talk all day and sing all night".
This just goes to show that it is not the equipment that makes the player. For all practical purposes, Tim is playing off the shelf production guitars. He almost sounds like he does not even really know what he is playing ... A guy like this could sound good on anything.
Tim is totally the man- his voice makes him sound like he's always holding back a yawn... regardless of how he got that way, it's sort of funny in the end.
Is it just me, or does Tim have the strangest voice I’ve ever heard?! I love him, didn’t even realize for many years that I was emulating his style when I play Dave Matthews stuff, along with some of the things that I do with delay pedal and volume swells, so seriously, I love the dude. But his voice is so strange sounding! Doesn’t sound anything like his face looks like! Anybody else feel the same way?
If I’m not mistaken, Tim’s voice has strange moments because of a bad car accident years back that severed his vocal chords. He could barely even talk for some time.
@mungo6000 And we're talking about rig's and gear here, not playing. There's plenty of 'better' or more skilled guitarists than BJ Armstrong, but he has a tone or sound that works and people know and like.
I'm gonna remove my original comment because I apparently am a moron for making a mistake. I apologize for that, but I didn't expect the negative reaction. I love Tim Reynolds and his playing, and I don't mean to offend anyone because of my comment. Really don't think I was being that much of a dick for it. But, don't wanna upset the public and their easily hurt feelings.
@mungo6000 Sooo is this guy known for his incredible tone and people model their tone or playing after him? Nahh, he's a good player but James Fn' Hetfield has godly tone and people recognize his signature bite right away. Hetfields rig is extremely technical, whereas BJ Armrstrongs rig is pretty straight forward but it's very custom at the same time. People know the dookie guitar sound right away as well. it's a moded marshall plexi.
I know that now, and I apologize for my comment. But, I don't see how that makes me a dick for making the comment. Seems like the tables have turned on you, O! Canada, eh?
tim is beyond phenomenal...i think it's safe to say that he's one of the most underrated guitarists ever
for real…
Tim was in a horrific car accident years back, thats why his voice is like that. But I met Tim back in 2013 in Virginia, & he is one of the most down to earth ppl Ive had the chance to meet. #DMB
patrick brewer I was wondering why his voice sounded like that.
He belongs on that short list of the GREATS, however not enough people know about him outside the DMB army of fans.
I think tim is one of my favorite acoustic player, he opened my eyes to a whole new world of acoustic
I had the honor of Meeting Tim Reynolds in Huntington WV. I got my picture taken with him. One of my guitar hero's.
I live in Huntington. When did he come thru?
Incredible guitar player. His playing, tone, effects usage and feel on the Radio City stuff is the best I've ever heard on acoustic. I was totally slayed by those cd's and dvd's. I still watch those all the time. Never checked out TR3...will do that now.
I remember seeing him play solo and he wore an alien costume and basically just shredded over a drum machine. It was glorious
Tim is one of the coolest, most tasteful guitar players around ✌️
he's pretty modest it's awesome.
"A swollen pickle for moments of total devastation"
This guy needs more admiration!

85% of why I love dave...he surrounds himself with good people....or musicians.
And gets rid of the bad ones😒😒😒😒
@@christopherpeters3922 thank God for that. Boyd was the weakest link, musicality wise, since the beginning
Tim is genius

Chris Kies is an awesome interviewer!

Saw him in Providence R.I. he played with a gas mask on. He was on fire with his Tr3
Nice dual Mesa case and pedal board by MT Cases!
Incredible simple rig from great player! Definitely gonna check out TR3.
Agreed, he really could make any box with strings sound good!
The way he said "configuration" hahahah priceless.

I totally was not expecting his voice
He is such a cool guy!
@telecasterman18 I believe he was in some sort of accident and damaged his vocal chords, which is why is voice changes pitch randomly.
Great video! Love all things Tim. But what’s his signal chain?!
I've always admired his guitar playing. Never heard him speak before though... What happened to his voice?!
Tim's hilarious: "'cause I don't usually communicate to these fingers with my brain"
cool to hear from the guitarist, instead of the roadie.
hell yeah no dislikes. just the way is should be.
Tim is totally the man- his voice makes him sound like he's always holding back a yawn... regardless of how he got that way, it's sort of funny in the end.
I never expected that rig from him.
Tim kicks ass super guitarist
Tim is the man!!!!
Legend!!!!!
Awesome rig! His voice takes some... getting use to. I'm not putting the dood down! I'm just saying its different. His playing is great though!
Tim Reynolds is like a modern day Steve Howe.
This man should be a Dr. Suess Character
@0713mas You got that right what a bad ass he is
"The Godfather" Tim Reynolds lol
Killer sunglasses!

Hey Tim!
can they give the interviewer like a clip on mike for himself so he can use the hand held mike for the interviewee?

check my page for the HOW TO on tim reynolds violin swell delay sound, I took some time and put it together! TIm is Such an inspiration to me!

car accident. He has some sort of box in his throat to amplify his voice.
I'm gonna remove my original comment because I apparently am a moron for making a mistake. I apologize for that, but I didn't expect the negative reaction. @telecasterman18 sounds like hehas emphysema
Shame he didn't show us the Oscar he got for Cabaret...

he severed his vocal chords in a car accident
It's because of a car crash, he only has 1 lung now!
He hooked his voice up to the moogerfooger
Dont smoke kids
dr mafesto
Confijuration.
Asmr voice
Sounds like he smoked for years.
Yea it does sound like that but he got his vocal cords messed up in an accident
@@rocknrollcowboy1620 Damn. Didn’t know that.
he's straight trippin on acid
I know that now, and I apologize for my comment. But, I don't see how that makes me a dick for making the comment. Seems like the tables have turned on you, O! Canada, eh?
And now I understand why he doesn't sing.
Anthony Ryan He does sing . He’s a great singer with a not so great voice , if that makes any sense
Pretty sure nobody had said anything about it before my comment. Oh, and sorry to offend a smoker. Tell your lungs goodbye for me.
Rig kind of sucks compared to Hetfields and BJ Armstrongs.
@poocoop He sings, too. It sounds just like you'd think it would- awesome. :)
