Me: ...oh, a new Sweetwater video... on Synthesizers? Nice. With Mr.Fisher?! Very nice, that guy is awesome. All about delay with synthesis?!!! Awesome! IT'S 50 MINUTES LONG?!!! IS IT DECEMBER 25TH ALREADY?!! 🤩 ...2020 just flew by! Hahaha
Does Daniel Fisher have any music that I can check out?
Daniel Fisher makes me happy. A master of his trade.
Who is better than Daniel Fisher?
Such a boss.
Pun(?) not intended!
Delay pedals are instruments! Lovely video, thanks for imparting your wisdom. 😊
Now I know what a delay geek looks like....Nice demo Daniel, I play guitar but your info certainly helps alot.
Thanks.
You're the Bob Ross vibe of reviewing gear. I hope you're aware how much joy there is watching your videos.
I always remember a friend of mine who got his shiny new Minimoog Voyager (rev one) back in the day, and he went to play it and said it didn't sound right; brought over a delay pedal, and showed him how it was 'supposed to sound' with an ELP patch, or any other lead sound. Then we went into space command from the 10th dimentions, and he got it. Delay is one of those things most folks don't realize make a lot of synths sound how they do, or how they think they are supposed to sound. Turning reverb up all the way sounds cool, but the delay offers actual control and I'm a total ping-pong nut. Get couple of sequences going against each other with different delay, and you get all kinds of insane counter points. If you know you know. Hopefully those watching Daniel's video will get some learnin' on :-)

Amazing video. Such in depth information about delays, and tons of sound examples. Loved it.
You have the absolute coolest staff. Daniel is an absolute synth beast. I could watch hours of this.
Daniel is awesome. Truly an asset to SW!
Every time I want to have a deeper understanding about synthesis, I end up by Daniel Fisher, Thank you for schooling us :)
Excellent demo because Daniel engages listening at every point. He talks like a real musician who is thinking with his ears. Not many demos on UA-cam emphasize listening as much as this fellow’s.
Another amazing video. That’s a lot of delay pedals :)
Daniel should do a crash course on connecting synths to make them sound good (midi, effects, sequencing and AInterface ) short and straight forward ...he is so clear 👍🏻
Hi Mauricio. Here's my crash course, called SYNTH CLIPS:

Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_
Sweetwater wow !! I saw only one of them... didn’t know there was a whole series !!! Thanks 🙏🏼
Another great synth tutorial by Walter Sobchak.
This is phenomenal, thank you sir. Every minute of it is providing ground-breaking information (for me). Awesome stuff.
Delay on synths plus that shirt on Daniel: EPIC !!!
Need more Daniel!
Excellent video, Mr. Fisher!!! 💥 It was informative, organized and had great audio examples!!! Sweetwater, give this man a pay raise!!! 💰 💴 💵
Great vid Daniel. Learned a lot from watching this!
Great explaination of the different types of delay available. Good point about the darker BBD echos blending nicely rather than sticking out like clean digital delay.
Thanks, Andy!
Listening to Daniel Fisher geek out over synths is like listening to LeVar Burton read books.
Your description of bad chorus, "ehhhh ehhhh ehhhh eh." I love it!
Who doesn't love synths + delay? So much fun!
Such a great video, have been searching for a good vi explains delay and delay pedals for so long. This is the first time I'm seeing Daniel Fisher and he explains things in such a clear and concise manner.
Thank you, pcac0004! I've made you a link that will call up most of my videos at once:

I love my Bicycle Delay on guitar. What you did on the synth with it sounds KILLER!!! I've been meaning to try it. Thanks for reminding me!!!
One great feature of the Hydrasynth is sending out Midi cc messages via its modulation matrix or macros. With this, you can integrate your midi capable pedals into the synth patch. Like, you can change the flanger pedals feedback while detuning your oscillators. Many combinations are possible. The Hydrasynth can send its envelopes, lfos, keytracking as midi CCs. Imagine changing your effects parameters with keytracking.
Good to know, since I just got one!😁
I love just discovered dual mono delays. With this, you can get insane rippling effects that are like reaction diffusion patterns when you feed the input of one into the next then back again.
I have just unboxed my fresh Nemesis delay I bought right after watching this video! It seems to be a great companion for my analog synths.
Cool material Mr. Fisher! I discover some more newdelay worlds with this vid., thx!
It’s funny to see the automatic subtitles often recognize the delay as “laughter”. Might explain why on subconscious level we like delay so much, it sounds like people having a good time :-)
Catalinbread Bicycle Delay Pedal laughing at its best from 30:27 to 30:30
Daniel Fisher makes some fantastic video’s! Please make a video about MIDI! Like how to connect multiple synths and a sequencer with a midi interface or a midi thru box.
Jeremy Cotta yes!
👍
The importance of delay effects on synths.
That typical synthesizer sound you remember from a track or song is most likely not just the synth, but the synth and an extra effect step.
Similar to an electric guitar is not just a guitar sound, or else it'd be an acoustic guitar.
I love your videos, Daniel Fisher. Thank you for always posting. I really dig your chops too! Love of sound & music just oozed out of your fingers!
So deep...so cool...energy flows. Thanks.
Fantastic detail of into in this one
Wow guys you rock, I learn a lot today with your new video.
Thank you Daniel and thank you Sweetwater 😊
Thanks a bunch for doing this. Lot's of great tidbits throughout.
Great video Daniel !
I got a patch on a synth with digital bucket brigade delay and accidentally had the BPM of the arpeggiator close to the delay time but not actually there and it sounded great. Secondly, I really like having delays come halfway between notes, such as 1.5 or 2.5 notes behind the sequence or near whole numbers like around 3 or 4 notes behind.
Last week I received the Zen delay pedal which is basically a ping pong machine with its heavy emphasis on tape and digital ping pongs. It can do sonically rich CRAZY long delays and it has a VCF cutoff with low pass and band filters. I can only imagine what you could do with this totally unique delay pedal!
The only problem with very nice sounding Erica Zen is that it is not equipped with an LFO. So modulating the delay time is not possible.
i literally needed this video

If this guy was an instructor at an audio recording school, I'd go to that school even though I know a thing or two about recording. Talks about details in a way that makes sense and doesn't sound like Microsoft Sam
Thanks L K. You would have loved the Music Technology classes I taught at Berklee, back when I was an Associate Professor of Music Synthesis. Here's my video series called "SYNTH CLIPS" that will eventually show everything I know about synth programming.:

@@sweetwater Oh wow! I'm sure I would have, knowing now your background totally conected the dots! Thank you for sharing the knowlege, looking forward to more great videos on the subject!
@@sweetwater I am 100% on board with a long running synth series. You're amazing and explaining things and I could listen to you noodle on synths for ages! Keep up the good work!
Ive stopped clocking delay and I don't midi sync/chain my 8 synths.... so much more fun in a live environment!
Came for the delay, stayed for the shirt.
Came for a pedal video...
Left with a new synthesizer.
We got Walter from the big lebowski on the synths
Anothere great video..thank you so much sir! I also saw your microfreak performance and got blown away...i have a question if you may. I try to midi sync my microfreak with my tc triple delay but im not sure if its really in sync, i try to tap tempo instead to match the beat. Any idea how to do that??Thank you and keep going!!!
35:20 make me have an order of flashback immediately.
I'm a Daniel Fisher official fan!
Hi Daniel, hi Sweetwater guys, super impressive vid and really helpfuul. I’m loing for a pedal for my Moog Sound Studio 3. H) has always been my favorite due to the blackhole reverb but the there is a menue diving I would like to prevent. I know there is a blackhole pedal which attacts my attention. MoogeerFooger is out of the budget and I’m aware that Behringer is going to launch simjlar products soon or later. What would you recommend when it comes to the first pedal I shoudl start as a beginner with: Boss RE-202 or Blackhole or another one I should take an eye on? Thank you
this guy would have fun with a digitech time bender
Actually, I had fun twice with a TimeBender!

Thanks for watching!
Great video and tips! Could someone help me understand what he is doing with the resonant filter, sawtooth and cutoff? I didn't quite understand what he said at about 1:00 in.
Hi Dave. It's a single Saw wave into a Low Pass Filter with the Resonance turned up 60 - 70%. Then manually sweep the Filter Cutoff into a Ping Pong Stereo Delay. Here's another video where
I explain it in more detail:
ua-cam.com/video/74NFyK2K85I/v-deo.html (Start at 1:54) Thanks for watching!
"i mean, that's a vibe" lol
best delay reverb pedals for performing with electronic music? was thinking of a dual like the source audio collider, using presets and expression pedal
Hi Emiliano. I didn't have the Source Audio Collider at the time, but now that I do have it, you'll see that it's used in many of my synth videos. Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_
I still don't understand what comes next in the signal path though? Out of the synth and into the pedal, but then what? How do I hear all of the sounds? Are you plugging into an amp or something? Is there a standard piece of kit that synth players use at the end of their chain?
ANDROMEDA seems to be much more versatile than BOSS RV6?
Where is the DI box?
Hi Adam. I find that, by keeping the synths' output levels to about 75%, I rarely have signal matching issues. But yes, using something like the Ebtech Line Level Shifter is even better:
www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MLLS--morley-mlls-2-channel-line-level-shifter
But I've actually never used one in any of my videos. Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_
Daniel, I want my echos darker
"Smokey this is not NAMM there are rules."
Are there delays that can also function as flangers? Is that kind of power too much to ask? I know I can do flanging with really powerful digital delays manually by changing the time, but I’ve never seen a delay that’s able to do LFO driven comb filtering. I bet they’re all in the modular domain lol.
Hi grant jonson. There's a reason for that. Flanging typically requires a 10ms - 15ms delay time that's modulated with an LFO. Many analog delay pedals' shortest delay time is often twice as long as that (20, 30, or even 40ms minimum of delay time). This can be hard to discover as even their owner's manual will only brag about the Maximum Delay Time, making no mention at all of its Minimum Delay Time. Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_
@@sweetwater thanks for the detailed response. I discovered that I’m unsure how an analog flanger works. I know digitally/theoretically how it’s done, but how analog circuitry does this is what I’m gonna go read about next. Thanks Daniel for being my synth guru!
Daniel, maybe you can't say, but if you could and had only one of these to choose...?
Hi Damion. My go-to delay, for some time now, has been the Source Audio Nemesis. Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_
@@sweetwater It just seemed to have a "bigger" sound than some of the others. Just ordered one with Bob. Thanks
Why does this guy look like he can get you a thumb, no questions asked?
I can get it by 3 o'clock this afternoon, with nail polish. Thanks for watching!
Mark it zero dude
Do you guys sell that shirt too? Must have :&
"tic-tica-tica-tica-tica-tica"
"psychotropic stereo ambient field" boioioing!!
No Walter Sobchak jokes in the comment section of this video?
Hi whiterotten rabbit. The Walter Sobchak jokes are already there in all my other videos. Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_
Smeh.
I use a loop that can organize which is in the series or parallel.
Btw miku and metalzone in parallel are epic.
