Rest in Peace Neil. "When I heard that you were gone I felt a shadow cross my heart." Thank You Dear Brother and Alex and Geddy for the lifetime of inspiration, mastery and integrity. What a legacy!
I have listened to each and every song Rush has ever made. I have never seen them in person, and with Neil's retirement, I will never be able to. That will live with me for the rest of my life. Most like me who have never seen them would be selfish and wish Peart to leave retirement. However, after 40 years of giving the world the best music it has ever heard, he deserves to settle down. The legend of Neil Peart, Alex Lifeson, and Geddy Lee will live on for thousands of years. And they finished strong with this song. This song is by far their greatest. Not only because it's the greatest music of all time, but it will be the final chapter in their legacy. Long. Live. Rush
I know it's not the same but get the clockwork angels dvd watch it buy your self a blast the hell out the surround sound Fyi it's ok if you didn't get to see a live performance they understand that you always supported them in spirit peace bro RIP Professor Peart 💔
We called him "The Professor" He lived in The Limelight He was woven ~ into the fabric of our lives He was only here for a fleeting glimpse But he left us these words to remember .......💪❤
Just the best. If this is the last studio Rush song it's an amazing one to end on. This is Neil's writing at it's best, Geddy's singing at it's best, and while not his most complex or technical it is Alex's most perfect guitar solo. Just a tremendous song.
That solo was taken from a demo Alex did in his hotel room. Wasn't even a discussion with Nick or anyone to redo it in the studio. Deemed perfect just the way it was.
This was the hardest one to listen to since the news broke. I never met you Neil, but I’ll miss you til my dying day. You enriched my life with your music and your words and I wish I could somehow repay you for it. I’m a better man because of you. Your absence is vast. Your legacy will be carried on for all time. Goodbye Professor...
Call me what you want but I still weep tears every time I hear THE GARDEN ,RUSH HAS CHANGED ME TO BE A BETTER PERSON DUE TO NEIL'S LYRICS AND THEIR POWERFUL MUSIC THAT'S WHY THEY ARE THE BEST BAND EVER, I AM SO GLAD I GOT TO SEE THEM LIVE 23 TIMES, THEY ARE GREAT AND NO ONE DOES WHAT NEIL DID ON THOSE DRUMS. RIP NEIL PEART MISS AND LOVE YOU PROFESSOR.
i knew this was the last song.years of wisdom comes down to this final lesson.the best song ever ,best guitar solo ever.Rush needs to keep making music.its the only music i buy
ken graham I feel you there brother. I began listening to Rush in 1979. I've been a huge fan since then and I have always enjoyed their music and now that they're done their music is going to be priceless and precious.
Rush- Having the best drummer and the best bassist in rock History with a wonderful guitarist, it's certain for them to be one of the greatest bands of all time.
Love Rush, but Geddy is a better bassist than Neil is as a drummer. Peart is overrated. All of his fills are the same. I can name five drummers that Neil wouldn't have out due even in his prime.
Flexible Strategist I love Rush 2 XD, anyway name 5 drummers who can play Neil Peart's drum set? And his fills are not the same cmon. Neil made sticking flipping famous, the guy played with the back of drum sticks just to play louder. Anyway who lived through 702 and 80s can tell you that Neil Peart was one of the Greatest drummers in history. And no way can really say who is the best drummer since there are different styles in music.
Absolutely perfect. Heartfelt, moving, introspective, and hopeful. Truly perfect, and the greatest example of what music can do as an art form and a form of catharsis. Absolutely brilliant.
I have thought that very same thing. Like, what if this is the last song they ever played... wouldn't you want the song to keep going as long as possible and never let that last note ring out?
Beautiful song.So sorry for your loss, Niel Pert ,Your wife fought a hard fight,as did my mother. Cancer is horrible and its devastating to watch the ones you love suffer from it.We never get over the loss of a loved one,..we just survive .Thank you for these Beautiful lyrics. In my prayers you'll be.
I am flabbergasted how much I adore this band. I too have not experienced any band remotely close to making this kind of connection with the music, lyrics, and enduring friendship that has been a gift to the world. I am also 44 and this song was completely unexpected to say the least.
What a song that makes me still cry i love RUSH AND THE GARDEN BEING THE LAST SONG ON THEIR LAST STUDIO ALBUM I BELIEVE NEIL KNEW THE HOURS WERE TICKING AWAY,GREATEST BAND EVER RIP NEIL PEART 💙 💔.
Thank you Rush. Thank you for many years of beautiful, inspiring and deep music. You are a legacy and one of the best bands ever. RIP Neil Peart. So glad I got to see you all in Montreal a few years back. Respect and love.
Goodbye Neil. I don't have words to say how great it was that your life happened to share some of the same time as mine. I am luckier than I ever dreamed. Death comes for us all, but one reason it's okay is that I can say, I lived in the time of giants; I lived in the time of you and your friends, and I heard your music when it was new. Though musicians be lost, music shall not, and death shall have no dominion.
I am happy to have been able to see them live. My son who is now 28 is also a fan he was at the concert with me, the passing of Neil was a shock. He was such a private man and i never as i think most never knew he was sick. An amazing mind and a truely amazing drummer/musician and just a nice guy.
Love this song for years now, shocked to lose the mistro ,the script writer, i raised my kids on Rush music theve been to many shows we are all greatful for the gifts Rush has bestowed upon me and my family and all the fans , Rush fans are incredible fans filled with love for our band, my heart is heavy ,my kids are crying,we love you guys farewell Neil Hang in Geddy and Alex love to all the fans and family , we are all grief striken ,peace and love ,keep it Closer to the ❤️ heart .
Saw them in early 2000. My wife asked me if there were only the three of them.....because they made such a racket.....and what a racket they have made. God's speed Neil.
They get better by the minute. It's hard to pick a favourite, when it comes to Rush. It is one of the best songs, no doubt. I've never ever experienced a band like Rush. I am 44 now, and I've followed them since I was about 11/12, roaming the suburbs of Bergen, wearing a Discman, listening to this awesome band. Yes,thank God for Rush. :)
Im 60 now, been a RUSH fan since i was 12. Their music in chapters. eras, decades, soundtrack of my life. MY favorite era, ATWAS. Their music got better and better, culminating in this, a masterpiece of playing and lyricism.
How this song has become my anthem leading to my 50th in September. Sadly I wonder is it really possible that it took Neil's death for my delayed discovery of what can be argued as the most complete song by RUSH. So amazing to the soul.
I wonder if he knew as he wrote this that his remaining time was not long. It sure seems that way now that he is gone far too soon. He "tended"his garden perfectly and even without the "gift" he gave us all, he has all the respect one can ever hope to have. Just a smart, gifted, loving, sharing and caring man who gave far better than he got. Exit the Warrior.
Alex outdid himself. Such somberness. Such refrain. His solo almost an ode to Mr. Peart. I think they all knew. It was was time For a song like this. To end a career of one of the greatest bands ever assembled.
Lego Master swan song noun noun: swansong a person's final public performance or professional activity before retirement. "he has decided to make this tour his swan song"
Sadly it turns out this is the last song Neil will ever write. The saddest of news that he died 7th Of Jan 2020 but he gave us so many great songs. Gone but will never be forgotten. Rest in peace Neil and thank you.
This is their Swan Song......I cant think of a better one, I wish I would not have "easily burned' mine. "the cuts can seem to cruel" (different song) but there you go. But I too will continue to 'tend my garden'.
When life takes a toll deceitfull people watchmakers lies with their schemes . They forget truth will always come out in the end. An we learn people just take advantage of our love . That’s why we must protect our hearts . Thank you rush for beautiful song I really needed this today music always heals broken heart
Rest in peace, Neil. The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect, and you scored a perfect 100. We'll never forget you.
Love the score of 100 absolutely awesome bro RIP Professor Peart 💔
Been a Rush fan since 1975. When I heard of Neils passing....part of me died as well.
Very well said.
a hundred... phhhh.
not dissing. Peart put ALL for us. measure all.
I cry now every time I hear this song missing Neil 😢
I can't help but sit here in tears. I've been broken since I found out we lost a legend.
Rest in Peace Neil. "When I heard that you were gone I felt a shadow cross my heart." Thank You Dear Brother and Alex and Geddy for the lifetime of inspiration, mastery and integrity. What a legacy!

And now this song speaks of the wordsmith who wrote it. So sad, RIP Neil Peart, never will forget.
We called him "The Professor"

No Professor Peart no Rush they made a vowel to not play rush with out all 3
So so fitting that this song is the very last track on the very last Rush studio album. The lyrics are some of Neil’s absolute best. May he RIP.
Rush- Having the best drummer and the best bassist in rock History with a wonderful guitarist, it's certain for them to be one of the greatest bands of all time.
Rush is love, Rush is life
Andres Inestroza .....Amen brother.....

No doubt one of the best and most beautiful Rush tunes ever, great job!
What an incredible song to go out on. RIP Neil Peart. You will be missed, but never replaced.
The absolute greatest song they have ever written.
In retrospect, possibly.
Yeah out of so many perfect songs. The last one is the best. Wow. Can't say enough about it. Breaks me everytime
I love the words to this song. Just beautiful tune.
Joy Dalton
Man first time I heard it. And already told my wife this will be played at my funeral
Absolutely perfect. Heartfelt, moving, introspective, and hopeful. Truly perfect, and the greatest example of what music can do as an art form and a form of catharsis. Absolutely brilliant.
The bittersweet ending to "The Soundtrack of Our Lives". All hail Rush, the ultimate force of nature
Such a beautiful and bittersweet song. It feels like the last song they will ever write.
it was their last song...ever
Sadly, it is....but I genuinely hope not.
Ya know what, I would okay with it. I think finding the measure of a life & expressing that through a song is enough.
I have thought that very same thing. Like, what if this is the last song they ever played... wouldn't you want the song to keep going as long as possible and never let that last note ring out?
rusher1977 annnnnnnnd its on their last album :(
