    As a broke single mom i always placed Christmas cards in branches of my tree as i received them by the end of christmas my tree was super full! Always a reminder how lucky & loved i am...not alone! Solved the problem also how to display cards in my tiny house...

      Amazing! I’m also a broke single mom and have done the same for a few years now! I always save my favorites and I have a few from people who have passed away. They mean so much to me and having them out reminds me I’m not alone. Another tradition I have for myself is packing up my favorite mug with my favorite Christmas scarf and mittens with a small amount of cash after Christmas and the next year when I’m unpacking it’s like a little gift for myself that I kind of forgot was there. It’s dumb but it always makes me happy knowing that even if times get tougher I’m taking care of my future self in little ways! Adding in a note to your future self is also corny but fun

    I love having a real tree! Going out out and finding the perfect tree has always been a lovely family outing! It makes each year unique and like a bit of a puzzle as we figure out where everything goes on the tree. Plus nothing beats that real tree smell!

Maybe if you throw them out every year yes. But raise your hand if you can afford to do that. Not moi! Mine was bought in 2001.... still going!

    I don't add the tree skirt until the very very very end because stuff falls on the floor in the decorating process. Not just glitter - all kinds of stuff. I sweep it all up, then add the skirt to a clean surface.

      Sad to see a tree that has taken years to go, being cut down and only used for a few months and then thrown out :(

    • @3janey3
      @3janey3 6 років тому +4

      @@narayanivyas Actually I cut a tree down from our own property in the woods. Often smaller trees are clumped together and are competing with each other for light. When you cut trees that are in groups, the ones that are left can grow to their full potential.
      In my eyes its better than manufacturing a tree out of plastic and chemicals and then it inevitably ends up in the landfill never to decompose. At least a real tree can be composted.

    • @narayanivyas
      @narayanivyas 6 років тому +1

      @Jane I guess you are partly right! And, it is a family tradition. Glad to know you don't want to use up plastic and you are sooo lucky to have your own property in the woods!!! Thank you so much for letting me know, otherwise, to tell you the truth, I would've been very sad😭 BTW- In my earlier comment, I DEFINITELY did not mean to offend you in any way. 😀

    • @charissa6648
      @charissa6648 3 роки тому +1

      @@narayanivyas It's actually better for the environment due to the fact that they grow these specifically for Christmas, the trees clean the air, and artificial trees are not recyclable! These trees provide many people with job security especially those who are farming.
      Not to mention; According to the Carbon Trust, around 66 percent of the emissions created by plastic trees come from the carbon-intensive oil it is made from. It's actually better to have a real tree, but to each there own! I definitely have used an artificial tree. It's just a common misconception that it's worse for the environment and wasteful, because artificial trees spend years in a landfill and could take about 500 years.

    Sharrah, I've watched this video about five times now (started like early October) and I followed so many of your tips for my tree. My boyfriend and I got our tree the way we want it so far and honestly one of the things that spoke to me the most was when you said I'd be changing things if I don't like it and it won't be perfect right away. I feel like this helped us so, SO much. I may or may not have been making him watch your videos with me lately. It's our first place together so we're just doing whatever we want. I love your videos, and yes I've been watching this year's Christmas videos too, both yours and your mom's. Happy holidays! And thank you!

    I’m a real tree lover, even though Christmas is in summer here. I have seen our family owned, local Christmas Tree farm move location 3 times in 15 yrs due to severe flooding or bush fires and love their tenacity in re-builing their livelihoods. Our extended family live half the world away - literally - so choosing a tree to have cut down has become a family tradition with me, hubby and our 2 older children. We then dry the tree out and use it for logs on the fire in winter time. Thank you for the fresh ideas. Your tree and home look beautiful. Seasons Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺.

    I’m torn between real trees and artificial trees.. I love artificial from a decorating standpoint. But the tradition of hunting for, and cutting down the perfect real tree and bringing it home is one of my favorite traditions.. I always decorate a real tree more traditionally with ornaments my family has collected from travels and other stuff over the years and add in many other ornaments and many many lights to still give it that decorators look. Lighting each branch of a 14ft blue spruce is definitely a chore, and quite painful, the result is absolutely beautiful though and smells amazing too

    Fake trees. Because you get to shape it the way you need it to be. Plus you can reuse it every year.
    Hut if you want the real tree smell we hang up a wreath or burn a candle for that smell.
    I have a question what height is your tree?

      I have one just because i'm from a tropical country and pines aren't really a tree, but you'd have to reuse the fake tree for 20 years before that carbon footprint actually wears off. Using real trees is better, because they are constantly growing them, and while they grow, they capture carbon dioxide, thus cleaning the air a little, and after you've used it, you don't have to store it. I'm sure there's a way to recycle a real tree.

      Sara Angel, I understand where you are coming from and I myself come from the Caribbean. I grew up with fake trees. They remind me of my childhood for one. Also I’ve used the same 5’ tree since 2002. I only replaced it this year because I was gifted a 7’ one Yay!!! But, I donated the other one. I know the real ones are regrown every year. But, killing a tree for just to use it for a couple of weeks seems wrong to me. Yes they get recycled and turn into mulch, but it seems sad to see the pile of dead trees accumulating on the side walks of NYC and everywhere else. Just my opinion.

It will be compost. And the plastic tree???? Guess what!? Its gonna be forever with us because its plastic.

    I do love an artificial tree because as you mentioned it's so easy to change up the style by arranging the wires. Plus there's no pine needles mess! The problem for me is storage space as I have none really lol. So I just go with natural Christmas trees every year. It's a whole vibe to going and picking a tree everyone loves. And it's easy to recycle!

  • @natalyvaldezberthet
    @natalyvaldezberthet 6 років тому +3

    Natural trees have been reared, have worked while absorbing CO2 and they continue doing so at home. Once we have got rid of both kinds of Christmas trees, the natural ones are biodegradable and can be used for compost or biomass, generating very little CO2. The plastic ones generate much more CO2 in their recycling process as they contain oil by-products, and without a proper recycling they would take hundreds of years to degrade.

    • @Kelli_D.
      @Kelli_D. 6 років тому +4

      Or if the fake one is made well and the family gets to use it for over 40 years and it still looks brand new, and looks more like a real Christmas tree depicted in old time photos (extremely full and no holes at all) through out the years.makes it even better. yes I know some one who has a tree just like this, it's the same tree she's been using since her children were young, she has 3 children the oldest is 49 youngest is 42 . So no worries about taking years to degrade, I'm sure the great grandchildren will be using this tree for years to come
