- For this video I am going to be unboxing my latest One Click Filmarena edition of Doctor Sleep on 4k Ultra HD Bluray . I will also be reviewing its 4K transfer and showing comparisons against the Bluray.

When this film first came out I watched about 15 minutes of it and fell asleep. It was only when you recommended it to me last year, Keith, I watched it again all the way through. What was I thinking, falling asleep, I thought the movie was absolutely brilliant. This does look amazing in 4K, the colors really pop out. This is a really premium looking edition Keith, simple but sexy. Great looking artwork on both editions. I was also impressed with the actor who portrayed the Dick Hallorann character, he did Scattman Crothers proud.
Like I said in the video Gary it is the perfect sequel. It gave me everything and more. But you also get that nod to The Shining particularly at the end when they get to the overlook Hotel. The 4K release actually elevates the movie as well particularly it's sound. As for the edition itself yes it does have its issues which is a bit of a shame but it will never ruin my enjoyment of it. I was waiting so long to get this and thankfully it was worth the wait. A huge thank you as always Gary for taking the time to stop by and check it out. Have a great weekend
The director's cut of this film is a masterpiece whle the theatrical feels like its missing something to make it truly special.
I really enjoyed the directors cut. It's just a shame you cannot get it on 4k. The one downside. Hopefully sometime in the future it will happen
Absolute 10 out of 10 movie that sadly has never got the love and respect it thoroughly deserves. Its a near perfect film for me(especially the directors cut).Cracking edition of it Keith and a great review👍
Great to hear that you enjoyed it as much as I did Garry. Like you said a near Perfect movie and to think it had to follow up The Shining. Not many directors can do that but Mike Flanagan handled it so well

The actor was no Jack Nicholson but take nothing away from it he done such a wonderful job. It was just great to see the character again. That entire segment in the overlook is almost perfect. Thank you so much for stopping by and checking it out
If you watch this film..The directors cut is a must!..it was a good follow up to the shining!
I have seen the directors cut but unfortunately it's not available on 4K so whenever I do watch it it's normally the theatrical
I saw Doctor Sleep at the cinema. The scene with the baseball kid had me in floods of tears.
It's a very hard scene to look at. Apparently it worse in the book

Absolutely love doctor sleep seen it at the cinema 3 times in one week. Iv only got it on bluray. Il definitely have to pick up the 4 k. Nice edition kieth
The Blu-ray looks absolutely fantastic. The 4K does look better but it's by no means a night and Day transfer. I think you'll be happy when you upgrade. Thank you for stopping by

Like I said in the video it's almost the perfect sequel. You get the best of both worlds. Something new but something very familiar particularly the last half an hour of the movie. That is absolutely fine Mark. I'm not here for everyone to agree with me. It's just a shame you didn't get anything out of Dr Sleep. You never know maybe someday it might grow on you a little bit. It'll never be as good as The Shining

When you look at the comparisons that I do in this video Gary there is not a huge difference over the Blu-ray and 4K and it's a testament to how good the Blu-ray looks. I think you will appreciate the changes whenever you do decide to upgrade. Thank you as always for stopping by

Hey Keith, I was really surprised how good Dr sleep was especially following such an iconic film as the shining. I have seen it twice and have been looking forward to seeing a third time. Just a small nit pick the door with redrum on it in the shining had both panels missing when it cuts back to Wendy but in Dr sleep only one is missing. The rest of the overlook was absolutely amazing. Fun fact: Did you know when Kubrick finished the shining the set/sound stage for main hall of the overlook was changed and used for the well of souls in raiders of the lost ark.
That could be probably one of the most fascinating fun facts I have ever read. Honestly I never knew that. That is absolutely incredible. Yeah it was always going to be a tough act to follow the shining but I think Mike Flanagan did a wonderful job. It's somewhat easy when you consider how good the book from Stephen King is. I never read it myself but my partner Ellen did and she was telling me it was very faithful to the source material. I never actually noticed the missing panels if I'm completely honest. I think we can throw him a bone considering how good the overlook looks at the end of it. But thank you so much Mason for stopping by and sharing that with me. Really appreciate the effort

Hi Keith, Great video as always my friend. I purchased this when it came out on streaming Apple 4K , Dolby vision and Atmos. One of the best atmospheric mixes to date IMO, I wanted the physical disc but I believe the directors cut was missing vision or Atmos ??? Definitely a second watch as the streaming mix and visuals are top notch, great film all around and damn that’s a great edition lad. 🇺🇸✌️🇮🇪
Unfortunately when it comes to the directors cut it's not available on 4K at all Michael. It is the one downside to this edition. As much as I love the Director's Cut I still only watch the theatrical because I love how the 4K looks and sounds. Hopefully someday we will get a proper release with the directors cut on 4k. Any plans to review Star Trek 3 steelbook keith ? Or are you a fan of Star Trek ? Have you any idea about upcoming Star Trek releases ? There doesn’t seem to be a steelbook release for star trek 2 wrath of Khan. I guess maybe the rest of the movies might get steelbook releases in time to come. Thanks a keith.
For every crappy sequel or reboot of classic movies, every once in a while we do get something that doesn't suck, and Dr. Sleep is definitely one of those. Solid sequel for sure. Also, had no idea until watching some of the extra features the guy playing Jack Torrance was Henry Thomas, aka Elliot from E.T.
The fact that Stephen King was behind the novel plays a huge role in why this movie is as good as it is. I honestly never knew that was Henry Thomas. When I read this I actually had to check it. He actually done a wonderful job
I watched it for the first time not too long ago and loved it. I watched the extended cut but may watch the theatrical also for the differences.
The Director's Cut is definitely the way to watch the movie but unfortunately it's not on 4K so whenever I do watch it I normally watch the theatrical. Hopefully the directors cut will get a 4K release sometime in the future
Really enjoyed this 1 mate. Ridiculous that the 4k had no directors cut, I got the usa edition so it came with the 4k directors cut code..
That been said I'll always watch the disc ahead of any stream . .
At least you have the option to watch the director's cut on 4K Ian. I'm sure it will happen someday where we will get the 4K release. Until then I am more than happy to watch the theatrical

Hey Stefan. A few people have brought it to my attention and I cannot believe these words are coming out of my mouth when it comes to a nameless media bust but I am going to say no to this release. I don't know what the movie is like and going by the cover it looks a little too rough for my liking. I'm almost certain it's very expensive as well which is a shame when you consider how small the actual piece looks. But thank you for the heads up. I'll wait for the next one

Mike Flanagan set to make next Exorcist Movie! I really like Dr. Sleep too, great Atmos mix, in fact it's due for a rewatch but I might try to string it out till Halloween...gonna be busy this Halloween I think,
I was absolutely over the moon when I heard about Mike Flanagan coming in for the next Exorcist movie. It'll be interesting to see what he does with it. The Shining and Dr Sleep back to back during the month of October. Sounds good to me

Love all these Film Arena sets but can never get any of them. Would love it if you did videos announcing the new release sets coming out so we at least have a chance
Unfortunately when it comes to Filmarena there is nothing I can do because these Editions are years old. Everytime you see me do a video on a filmarena release 90% of the time I bought it on eBay.

Ideally John I would love to send them an email but they never respond to any of them. There customer service is an absolute joke. It's very strange of them no question about it. It's definitely a first for me

Absolutely loved this movie and was not expecting to. I had this release and sold it. I want to get the HD Zeta release as I like it way better. Too bad, now on the aftermarket, it is way too expensive.
To be honest I am more than happy with this edition and I have no intention of buying any other release for it. It's been a long time coming but it was worth the wait

I’ve seen a German steel book edition of this I’m thinking of ordering, this film has a strange vibe throughout , very underrated
With that edition you have , they could of loaded one edition with postcard art and put a nice hardcover book in the other one…bit of a missed opportunity there
Yeah there is so much they could have done with this edition. Don't get me wrong I still think it's absolutely astonishing but I can't help but feel somewhat underwhelmed by it as well. Thankfully it's not a regular occurrence from filmarena.

Watch it just so you can say that you have seen it. Hopefully you'll get more from it than I did
love the lenticular, but otherwise they seem to have had licensing issues with so much reused artwork. Shame, cause it could have been above average filmarena. cheers keith! do you prefer the extended or theatrical cut?
To be honest I don't think it was licening issues. I think it was a lack of creativity. It's amazing to think it's one of my most anticipated releases from filmarena but it's my most underwhelming one. Don't get me wrong I still love it but it could have been better
@@millerman9991 i totally agree. Such missed potential. The movie delivers so many good motives. I just have all the other Filmarena releases in mind, with completely different booklets, cover art, art cards. This one basically uses 3 artworks and just put the 2 WWA steelbooks in it. Licensing issues would be the easiest explanation though. Would also explain why no other label tried to release a premium edition. Got myself the Lenticular back then. Dont want to miss it, but ahhhh.... such a shame.
@Badvision it's a bit of an eye opener this release because I didn't fully look into it. To be honest even if I did I still think I would have bought it because I think it's a wonderful release. But when you do stack it against someone of the other Editions that I have it's definitely the most underwhelming

It's a great movie David. Me personally I wouldn't put it ahead of The Shining but it's not a million miles away
The Overlook Hotel looks totally different just because of the way Stanley Kubrick filmed it originally.
I thought it looked fantastic. You have to remember it's decades older. I think they done a great job on it

Hi, I love this film, as you say, it's a shame the director's cut is only available on blu ray, because I think it is better than the theatrical cut (even though it is still a great film). I'd say, 4.5/5 for the theatrical cut, and 5/5 for the director's cut. 🤞 for a 4k director's cut at some point.
It seems to be a regular thing when it comes to extended cuts. They always seem to appear on the Blu-ray and you know as well as I do sometime in the future we will get a 4K release with the extended cut. It would be worth picking up because as you said it really adds a lot to it. Thank you so much Paul for taking the time to stop by and check it out

I got the usa edition that has the director cut 4k code and 4k theatrical disc.
Criminal that they shafted the 4k disc as its awesome.

I wish studios would stop providing directors cuts on bluray only in 4K sets.

I was not happy with the last haft of this film. The book had a better ending. But that’s my opinion.
I think what they were trying to do is get a balance between the book and the Stanley Kubrick movie. Trying to keep everybody happy
@@millerman9991 maybe it’s because I had a stronger reaction to the ending of the book. Either way, I’m happy some people love it. Loving movies in general is always the best. I love physical media. Nothing beats it.
@TakeScareMedia you weren't the first person to say that they were somewhat let down by its ending. I never read the book myself so I didn't have that to worry about. In terms of physical Media I couldn't agree more with you
@@millerman9991 I get it, there was a section of the book where we had no idea he was sick. Just under the weather. But once he got to the still burnt down hotel from the first book, he released the sickness and took out the baddies. That were waiting to strike. It was such a great surprise. In the movie he deals with them at the RV lot. And the it goes into fan service. Oh and for some reason, I had it in my head Rose the Hat was black in the book. That’s how I saw her. King has a way with his descriptions.
The Movie Was Good But Did Not So Good In Theaters Of Which Was A Surprise 😮 It Has One Foot In The Book 📚
And One In The Kubrick Film Version of The Shining!
On the whole the Film was very good compared to the book - the murder of the baceball boy had to be toned down for the film.
I never read the book but I'm surprised to hear that they toned down that scene because it's very hard to watch even on the movie. I can only imagine what the book must be like.
To be honest I listened to the audiobook😊.
Some of the main differences are of course the way Rose dies ,the size of the true knot (quite a few more members) and the fact that in the book Danny and Alba are truly related.
@stevealharris6669 I really need to get into audiobooks because I drive quite a lot and it would be a great way to pass the time. I wouldn't mind checking out this one
