History is my passion, I have lived in Gosport since 1976 when I arrived here on My first Navy ship and Portsmouth became my home port, then I got married and we moved over to Gosport to live, and I loved it so much I remained here after leaving the Navy and still here to this day, and Gosport has a lot of history.

I lived on Albemarle Avenue near the Hardway in the 60's. Dad worked at the HMS Daedelus airfield. Yes, used to see the first hovercrafts when we went swimming at the Lee on Solent beach or played around in Fort Gilkicker. Dad did two tours on the HMS Hermes. My brother was baptized in the ships bell.

I was in the new married quarters down at the Hardway near the ammunitions factory near Greens Bakery. I served onboard HMS Ashanti, HMS Devonshire, HMS Bulwark and HMS Illustrious. My Daughter was baptized onboard HMS Devonshire and her name is inscribed in the ships bell which is being held in the town hall, Torquay.

@@lollypopdoodle -- Wow! You must have visited a lot of exotic places. My Dad said the best place was R and R while in Singapore. The worst was when he was billeted in Cape Town while it was still under Apartheid. What was your favorite?

@@isaiah30v8 In my 12 years in the Navy I spent most of them around the Caribbean Islands and America, but the furthest east I ever got was Turkey, never got to go to the far east and Australia.

Excellent video, I'm moving to Alverstoke shortly, there will be lots to explore. A few years ago I used to visit the town on business, I remember the railway station before it was developed.

@@lollypopdoodle Thanks for your response, every time I look at Gosport on film etc, I discover something new. The town is sadly looked at as a rather scruffy run down seaside town, past its sell by date. Is their a local historic society, I believe there is a railway group?
