I enjoyed this episode, Mike is really quite a lovely man, with endless patience for his invisible roommates and Allison. The Sorry Song had me rolling, "Being so not right will keep us all night" And the bit with Thomas rapping off script. So well done! Just a lovely episode, with lots of feels. I'd give it a 9, and for once we all agree.
I think you are right about the practical reason why Mary is very much separate from the others for most of the episode being that she was unavailable for all the filming. I have heard some of the cast commenting that they were very grateful that Katy Wix was able to give them half a series before Mary moved on so that they could properly complete Mary's story arc. I too think the Sorry Song is a highlight of the whole series. Very Horrible Histories! Somewhere on UA-cam you can see a version of this scene from Mike's point of view (I assume it is taken from a behind the scenes DVD extra) It's quite funny to realise what his life is often like. He is a very patient man.....
