  • Games Workshop kindly sent me the new Seraphon army box and they were the absolute perfect project to try out the new speed paint set. Hopefully this video will show you that even a simple paint job can still stand out on the tabletop.

    As an experiment, for a REALLY quick and dirty with the speed paints, (if you've a TON to do in a short period) try :
    * prime all over in black/dark grey
    * then another prime from horizontal to directly above in a lighter grey
    * then one last blast from a zenithal direction in pure white.
    Finally speedpaint the whole thing in 1 colour.
    Gives you a really good idea of the range/flexibility of this stuff on different base colours.

    The Lizardmen were my first ever army when I was introduced to Warhammer Fantasy back in the day. They will always have a special place in my heart. I plan on doing a Lizardmen army when Warhammer The Old World ever releases. Seeing you apply the paints through the air brush, I’ll remember that when I get into using my air brush for the first time.

    I just received my own speedpaint 2.0 set this week, and am painting some Nurgle figures for a customer, ad loving how easy these paints are to use. I'm painting over a flat grey primer, and the greens, reds and browns go beautifully together with the primer, making the figures look even "more" Nurgle than normal :-) I haven't tried all of the colours yet, but so far, I'm pretty ecstatic with the results, and also how fast I finish a mini using them. I don't use an airbrush, just the paintbrush included in the set, but so far, I'm now a fan of these paints, to say the least :-D

    • @slackreviews

      What set did you go with? I’m trying to decided between the most wanted speed paint set or the mega set.

    • @MrCrystalwarrior1
      @MrCrystalwarrior1 7 місяців тому

      @@slackreviews I went with the 2.0 set, but may go for the mega set later, as I get more used to how the paints can be used as washes along with other paint ranges, and other little experiments I have in mind :-) The 2.0 set has some truly nice paints, but more thinner medium would have been nice, as I still get the odd moment of dragging/clumping/cracking if I use primers that aren't from the Army painter range.

    These look amazing, but can someone explain to an absolute amateur (me) why you would use things like speed paint or contrast paint through an airbrush when that seems to remove all the contrast effects? Is it just because the colours are good?

    • @ThePickleJar
      @ThePickleJar  Рік тому +4

      Yeah it’s mainly because they’re already the right consistency for an airbrush so no messing about thinning them and also they’re highly pigmented so you can get really bright, vibrant colours by using them.

    Nice job! They look great. I think speed paint is supposed to be brushed on though... if you airbrush it on, it dries too quickly and doesn't let the heavy darker paint go into the recesses? (eg. big lizard's red / orange sections) That's why the feet look like they have more depth?

    Nothing wrong with your painting but after trying out Citadel contrast, Army Painter Speedpainter and Vallejo Xpress, IMO, contrast paint is only just slapchop painting... nothing impressive or worth shouting about. Whether it's airbrushed, added over white or zenith base, the effects aren't great. To me, this is all hype.
    For those who hasn't invested in it, please stay away. You can still do fast painting with normal paints (base+layer+wash+highlight) and get good results.
    PS: Contrast clean-up is a pain given that it relies on the base to produce its effect.

    • @ThePickleJar
      @ThePickleJar  Рік тому +4

      I’m 100% not saying you’re wrong to not want to use these styles of paints, because everyone’s hobby is different, but by the same token people can use whatever paint they’re comfortable with and let’s them enjoy painting. As I said, you’re absolutely entitled to your opinion, but let others inform their own.
