People tend to really underestimate how important minute dexterity is
you really do, whats cool is when i stop thinking about it and just do, like when i had natural hands. then you catch yourself and it's like wait, what?
Dont even need to lose palm for that, carpal or RSI injury will have a similar effect. Some people dream of mansions or luxury cars, I dream of being able to use my hand with the same precision as before and without pain.

(Okay, that sounds weird, but you know what I mean) Outside of CGI movie prosthetics and million dollar projects, that kind of control and articulation just plain doesn't exist. You are a genius. Sorry I am new to channel did he design and build that hand himself? If so thats incredible. Hopefully he will put the design schematic on the net for everyone who needs one to make one also it helps the people making robots for various jobs.
@@lonknight3197 So, yeah. He lost all the digits on his left hand except his thumb several years ago. And when he saw both the pricetag and functionability of existing prosthetics, he basically said screw it, I can make my own. He has gone through a bunch of different designs over the years, including hands for specific aplications(e.g. drill hand, bow hand, ect.) They keep getting better too. I don't think he posts anything, simply because the hands he makes are literally molded to whats left of his hand, meaning that they wouldn't fit anyone else. But he often tries to explain the mechanism so that others can replicate the idea.
The way you're able to incorporate this device seemingly effortlessly with day to day functions makes this pretty amazing.
I think it’s amazing how you’ve taken something unfortunate like losing a large part of your hand, and innovated your own prosthetic solutions. It’s really cool dude keep going.
the machine is an extension of the flesh. flesh is weak, metal is eternal. This is exactly what should await us in the foreseeable horizon. This is the only way we will get rid of prejudices and disputes. The Omnissiah is proud of this man.
This might actually be the most advanced and functional partial hand prosthesic avaiable world wide! The fact that it's purely mechanical makes it even more awesome.

When you picked up the single almond was actually super impressive. Having had someone go through physical therapy to be able to move their hand properly I know how difficult it was for them. But you did that with a prosthetic hand and I am just absolutely blown away! You're awesome!

you see the reason for this is that their is actually company wise a monopoly on prosthetics they don't want tot make large leaps in bounds in technology due to the fact that they already charge basically the most they physically can for prosthetics so if they greatly increased their current ones quickly they would either have to make the price so high no one could by it or charge it at the same price and people would ask why did the last model have so much less functionality but be priced the same. so they have slowed development to a crawl so they can excuse making every new type the same price if that makes since. (don't really know how to explain what i have been told)
@@hermesl9884 They could just make their high-end product more affordable even to those with missing appendages. That way those who are in need of it can obtain said product.
@@rytlocknroll but my dear fried that would imply companies care about the people i too have asked why not just make it more afford able to everyone but they just don't. it is just another necessity of life for a certain group of people that there is a choke hold on like a lot of the medical industry with insulin or epilepsy medications. for in the eyes of companies if you can't pay top dollar why should they care about you.

I think you’re doing an amazing thing here. Not only are you creating an amazing device to improve your quality of life.. you’re showing others that it’s possible to create their own solution instead of dumping tons of money into something that may be less practical

The thing about a skill, such as engineering, is that it gets built up overtime. If someone started engineering 10 years ago, today there skill would be multiplied by magnitudes. You too can be as good an engineer as Mr Davis if you put in the time and effort he did. Don't sell yourself short, your potential to grow is only as great as your willingness to learn.

Watching this as someone who has never touched engineering and has more interest in art, the way your prosthetic moves because of the different weight distribution is fascinating. I’m also impressed at how much you could improve with one new rendition
i could argue that this IS art, art is an expression of oneself or an expression of an idea, he is using his engineering skills to express himself through the prosthetic hand, the fact it’s actually useful and has practical uses is just a major side benefit lol, and ofc in the process he is becoming one with it

The fact that you were able to create not just one but two mechanical hands that function better than most cybernetic limbs that I've seen absolutely takes my breath away. This is frickin insane, this man lost his hand, said "you know what, I'm just gonna biuld a new one, it can't be that hard right?" Then proceeds to biuld a robot hand that works almost identically to a regular hand. And he did this diy style with one hand. This is by far the most badass thing I have ever seen.

@@juliakeeton6953 He has shown how to make parts of it, I haven’t watched much but it seems like he does quite a bit if not all of it. I feel the whole process can be done with one hand, you just need to be creative with how you design and assemble the prosthetic.
This is amazing. The part about picking up small objects was particularly interesting.
People REALLY underestimate how complex the most basic natural functions of the human hand actually are if you attempt to replicate them artificially.
I work in heavy industry- for long, unsociable hours.
I'm very careful, but even so losing fingers, or even an entire hand is a constant worry for me- and the most mundane concerns are always the sharpest.
How would I roll cigarettes? How would I ride my motorcycle? How could I play video games?
One day, when technology has advanced to a point where people would willingly "upgrade" from their natural anatomy for machine parts- people like this guy should be given the highest end gear in recognition of being cyborgs before it was cool and easy.

The world is and always has been lost. @@Roach_Dogg_JR That's the joke tho, fully analog prosthetic is more functional than the one on servos and electricity, cuz it does not have to accomodate batteries and motors, and they take up all the space in those common ones. Without that of course it comes down to incredible manufacturing complexity. This probably has more moving parts than 10 motorized hands lmao. Works better too. We really do rely on electricity a bit too much these days.
@@nikkan3810 well I mean mechanical hands can only go so far before hitting a limit. Electronic prosthetics have the potential to recreate touching sensations and allow for the brain to directly control motors, 2 things that will help the hand feel less like a tool and more like a real hand.

That he died on the cross, and was resurrected from the dead 3 days later to give us eternal life.

Thats so cool, your hand looks and works amazingly, loseing digets is abit if a fear if mine as i use my hands a lot and have had a few close calls. Its really cool to seehow your creativity overcomes a physical problem.
While I imagine missing a hand is less than optimal I can’t help but feel jealous. That prosthetic looks absolutely killer. Even better, it functions incredibly well. Fantastic work! I always look forward to seeing your updates and i hope there’s plenty more coming.

I gotta watch his videos... Never seen any before but UA-cam recommended bit wow he must have such skill and determination to not just make a fully functioning prosthetic that not just works well but looks badass AND he improved on it like my god man props to you. I can't imagine how it's like to be in his shoes missing a portion of his hand. To see him work hard to regain some functions and improve it is amazing, and as you said it also looks badass.

As someone who's been folding origami for 9 years, I can't imagine what I'd do if I lost even a few fingers. I'm fascinated by your prosthetic hand! It gives me a sense of hope that not all would be lost if I were in your situation.

That’s fantastic to see. I’m already thinking to shrink up the overall size using carbon fiber or composite materials to add strength while creating a smaller print and less weight.
I still have my fingers but they are curled inward to which makes everything difficult.
I’m about to have them chopped off (amputated) as they get in the way. This apparatus you’ve created has serious potential and as is, does it’s purpose.

you know its really impressive, it isnt the perfect biotic replacement we all wish existed, but it actually looks better, stronger, and more intuitive than that i have seen these super big companies make that require buttons in shoes that you press with toes to make the hand perform functions.
Yea but those are not as flexible as normal hands, like typing is gonna be a lot harder if you if your movement are rough (lol)

If you made these designs available to the public, many people would be thankful. I'm happy to see your intelligence being used to create such wonderful devices. I would be astounded to see someone driving with prosthetics this articulate. You may not know it, but you are setting a very high bar and precedent for future prosthetics. I can't wait to see what you add next!

@@mitzuriki Flying cars will never be a realistic technological improvement on Earth. Fuel would be more costly (unless they can become battery operated) and the injury rate would be miles higher if they don't force an autopilot/self-driving feature on every model. This doesn't even take into account of restructuring towns/cities (not to mention reworking the average parking lot) to be flying car friendly, or the absurd prices of these vehicles.
All of this just for a police patrol system to be 10x more difficult to properly organize and execute; That's why flying cars don't exist - We might have the technology to create them, but they aren't practical.
@@mitzuriki it already existed. just that people lowkey knew the impracticality of flying cars, the risks involved and the expensiveness for daily usage.
The risks are air traffic, and air car accidents, imagine flying cars suddenly crashing down on people or infrastructure or stuff below.. Costly, lethal and very annoying to deal with. Expensive, for daily usage, will have to maintain and it will be very pricey, more fuel needed for the energy for the propellers or depending on what type of aerial car it is. If u just search it up, there are already alot of real life functioning types of flying cars, just that it never made it to mass production and commercial usage. Heck theres even fkying motorcyle drones even! (being currently used by the police)

keep aharing this stuff man , i hope people as crafty as you kight be able to gerain simular control with lost and remade reimagined limbs and or digets. this looks awesome and it seems like even with most of your left hand digets missing you can pretty mutch live as normal, with the added bonus that it looks incredibly cool, of cours it wont be the same as having fully funtional limbs and digets but its a lot better, therefor i hope that this channel and your inginuity gets chared and inspires others.

You are legitimately one of the coolest people I know of. The design of your hand is amazing both functionally and aesthetically. The fact that you've managed to recreate so many of the human hand's complex natural motions, while the whole thing is 100% mechanically actuated and looks like something out of some steampunk reality is amazing. I look up to you as a young engineer, and I hope to be able to make something as amazing as your hand some day.
