Fascinating. I don't tend to watch comic videos, but I've just spent the day digging through my childhood comic collection which have rarely been out of storage for decades, so I'm feeling nostalgic.
Thanks for the suggestion, I am just super lazy on that front. Or, I take photos and forget them or move them to my computer to a folder I can't find. I will try to do more of this though, I promise!
Speechless. Just wow. Great job and shows the effort you put into cleaning these up. Outstanding. I'd love to send you a couple books as I'm sure you'd get better results than anyone else!
Hi Jim- You and the rest of the world (myself included) stopped collecting Transformers around issue 50. The series only ran until issue 80 and distribution kept falling off each month. Issues 69-80 had extremely low distribution. They're tough to find in high grade especially the newsstand versions. Nice results on your submissions as always amigo! Thanks for sharing!
Nice sub! Your childhood and collecting tastes are def similar to mine, I still have my original 80 issue run of TF from my childhood. Did slowly replace issues as I got older but the bulk is from back then. unfortunately my TF #1 cdn price variant came back in a 9.2, but still happy to have it! Since it was picked up at cover price.
Would love to see more process videos, even though you are still refining your methods. You must be doing some special things, or doing a lot of standard things uniquely well, to consistently get such top grades. What do you use to light your work area?
I should be in a good place to start doing more process videos by summer. Things move very slow in this hobby, as you know. As for light, I have 5 light sources. 4 on my desk and the overhead light as well. I actually feel like I need 1-2 more lights!
Those later Transformers books from 70-80 are the most expensive in high grade with the last two being the most expensive. As for the books 50 plus, the more expensive ones are the ones that are more difficult to get a 9.8 in, and of course due to the lower print run. There are so many Transformers collectors that aren’t the biggest comic collectors that still own and collect this original run. So I think that’s why some of those harder to find later issues still maintain their value in higher grade without being keys.
I just started going to through my 80s/90s collection. I'm amazed at the potential value for alot of my collection. My younger self scored gold with my mcfarlane ASM run is it filled with doubles alot being newstands and mark jewelers. As yourself, I started out with GI Joes/Transformers. I later added all four titles of spiderman starting at gang war. I also collected X related titles too. Something about Jim Lee and Todd Mcfarlane sang to me. Only fully runs I can brag about is transformers and Power Pack.
Just got my first clean and press submission back after practicing for a year. X-Men #5 Jim Lee/Scott Williams sig series (newsstand) at a 9.6. Frustrating because I've owned 2 other 9.8s of that book and this blows 'em away. Now my only option for CPR is through ccs, and I've seen enough mishandlings to be nervous. Gonna wait until I can get another sig on it and have it done then. I fully realize the frustration of a 9.6 when you know full well it's closer to 9.9 now. 😅
I believe that Newsstand comics prior to the late 80's, were distributed at the same clip as direct issues. The distribution ratio for newsstands during the 90's and up, were about 5% of the comics print run. So not all newsstands are rare and that means pricing for the book should be the close to, if not the same amount, as the direct.
Love this channel. But this dude sooooo consistently gets such high grades. I wonder if he worries about flooding the market or causing cgc to adjust its grading standards based on how easily he gets 9.8s. In the sports card world use of easers and such is frowned on. Is it not in comics? His attitude and informative nature brings me back.
MO - never run auction of unknown value as it might sell for very low value; a risk that one takes with unknown variants. I would set a high value to see what interest this book receives. I would do this many times etcetc. Once again, MO. Also, with Transformers & GI Joe, their high#s were lower print as probably with some other like titles of that era.
They are all sold right now (this video was recorded 2-3 weeks ago) but keep an eye on my Shortboxed account (link in description) I have 2-3 still at CGC
Newsstands being worth more is so dumb, but, I love it, because I can ge the direct which has an extra piece of art on it instead of a barcode for cheaper. Better for me. I collect art, so I prefer an extra image on the bottom corner of a character instead of a dumb barcode lol Ya'll ppl who care about value more than the art kill me, but hey, better for me as an art collector. Amitãbh
It does seem dumb, but it's the rarity that people buy. I kinda like that there are two "variants". And entry level variant then the upgraded rarer newsstand variant.. it makes collecting much more accessible
I hear you, but I wouldn't call a newsstand an "upgraded" variant however rare it is; if anything, the comic with an extra piece of art on it is the "upgraded" variant, not the one with a generic barcode. I get it, I too collect newsstands here & there , I have all 3 (Direct/Newsstand/Canadian) variants of WEB OF SPIDER-MAN #1, & all 3 variants of ASM 252, but if I only had to choose only one book as an art (comic) collector, I'd always choose the book with more art on it, than the book with lines in a box called a barcode instead of a drawn superhero character. Plus, I'm a huge Spider-Man fan, so I'd definitely pick the book with an extra drawn image of Spidey instead of a barcode. But, that's just me & my perspective. Take care, friend. @@ImproveCollectingComics
Congratulations on the clean sweep, once again, loving those Transformers books, just love that series.
Great submission!!! I all so love those yellow daredevil covers!!
Congratulations on this wonderful submission. You may hold the record for the most CGC 9.8 transformers #1
Now that's a record I don't mind having!
I've got a soft spot for yellow covers too!
Ah man, those are some awesome grades for awesome comics. Congratulations my guy! 👍🏾😀
Great vid as always. To have the option to keep or sell 5 plus transformer 1’s speaks VOULMES
🔥🔥🔥
Totally awesomeness Brother. Thanks for sharing Your passion and adventures from Toronto Ontario Canada 😎👍♥️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️📚📚📚📚📚✨️💯💯💯💯💯✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️
Congrats Jim! Congrats! Awesome submission.
Thanks a bunch!
Jim you killed it! Well done my friend!
Thanks!

I think CGC knows who you are and doesn't want to look foolish. Respect.
I thought the grading process was anonymous though? :)
I think Cgc knows he cleans and presses and grades books that blows the graders at Cgc away lol true master
I prefer your videos this way. When you don't tell us it was a 9.8 prescreen submission, it really builds up the drama. Congrats on the grades!
I definitely prefer non prescreens as well
It would be cool if you could take some photos of the book before grading, highlighting the flaws and the appearance before you begin pressing.
Thanks for the suggestion, I am just super lazy on that front. Or, I take photos and forget them or move them to my computer to a folder I can't find. I will try to do more of this though, I promise!
Incredible returns. All 9.8. Can’t wait to see your process videos.
Congrats man!!!
Jim
Thank you very much for taking the time to share these videos. I love them.
I wish you success and health in 2024!
Well done...you're abilities floor me! Do you ever put your slabs in protective bags?
Thanks! Yes I use the bags that come from CGC
Speechless. Just wow. Great job and shows the effort you put into cleaning these up. Outstanding. I'd love to send you a couple books as I'm sure you'd get better results than anyone else!
YOU GOT REALLY LUCKY WITH A COMPASSIONATE GRADER...
Loose Larry rocks as much as Harsh Harry socks
Nice video congrats on getting those to 9.8s. I bet that’s a lot of work
You have no idea... :)
I’m with you on the yellow covers. Dunno why either but I also love a good yellow cover.
Nice work. Thats the process to growing your PC essentially for free.
Yeah, wish I had known this stuff 10 years ago... imagine having 100k to invest in books to clean, press, and hold until 2021
Everyone of your videos blow me away with your grades and the process of how you press and clean your books.Always great to watch.

Very nice return. Great pressing work. Love the videos. Keep them coming
That awkward moment when you film an unboxing, but forgot you prescreened 9.8… 😂 Great video as always! Congrats on the grades!
Congrats on all 9.8’s.

You seem to be getting better & better at this. Happy New Year
Another awesome submission brother. Hopefully I'll get the same results for my Transformers 1 I bought a high grade newsstand recently. 🤞🏽
Thanks and good luck!

The US run of Transformers stopped at 80. The books in the 70s are very difficult to find because of a low print run.
Thanks for the info!
Expertise and patience becoming monetary profit. That's America... or used to be... well done!
Well said and thanks!

They aren't necessarily rare as a whole, but in the higher grades (9.6+) newsstands of the copper age are MUCH rarer
Let’s see more silver age books, modern books are so common in high grade
Excellent ❤
Can you do another video on how you shop eBay for potential 9.8s?
Added to my "to-do" list, thanks!
Transformers only went to issue 80. Issues 70-80 are all very low print run. Congrats on a clean sweep!
Thanks for the info!

You’re the second person i heard say “punisher 129” recently. Is this becoming the new normal? can we start calling it “wolverine 181” or “thor 83”?
LOL if I said that, sorry.. accident
@@ImproveCollectingComics love the vids. Thanks for the cool comic content.
Enjoy the videos as always, room/collection tour?
Definitely planning to!
Who puts the stars on these? Do you know already the awarded grade and this reveal is just for the video?
I do it with my eyes closed by feel, I like to be surprised too

Hi been watching your videos great work! I would be interested in purchasing one of your transformers 1. If possible how can I do so. Thanks again!
They are all sold right now (this video was recorded 2-3 weeks ago) but keep an eye on my Shortboxed account (link in description) I have 2-3 still at CGC
Are you still doing the 9.8 pre screen?
Most of the time, yes. But if a book has value without getting 9.8 or doesn't have much of a chance of 9.8, I typically won't bother
Do you press other persons books?
No, sorry.. it's really just a hobby for me

I think Transformers ran 80 issues
Transformers are your friends 😂
Hello everyone. This comment is a test to see if UA-cam is actually displaying my normal, non-controversial comments.
They are! :)
