  • Alina, student at Aalborg University (AAU) in Denmark in Scandinavia, is explaining how students at AAU do problem based project work in groups.
The study method at Aalborg University (AAU) is called problem based project work, or “The Aalborg Model for Problem Based Learning (PBL)”, and is highly recognised both nationally and internationally. UNESCO has placed its only Professorial Chair in PBL at AAU.
Studying at AAU is not about rote learning. Each semester, you will work closely together with a group of fellow students on a large written assignment. You will also follow more traditional instruction, but the group work at AAU ensures that you build a network from the very start of your studies, and that you will not constantly be sitting on your own buried in your books.
The group work adds an academic and social dimension to your study programme and, at the same time, it equips you for the labour market where skills in cooperation are very sought after.

Is this for one course, or like a final year project in the end of the semester? For a course, you have a main lecturer, then how many teachers/supervisors (the ones who look over the small groups)?

There is usually a facility for groups within a semester (there is a group pr. semester) at first. You have a pre-determined groups in the first semester. Later on. You’re with a group that you choose
