  • Peter runs the Swedish DNA Project which currently boasts over 4000 members. He will reveal how to recognise if your DNA is of Viking origin. He will also will trace the DNA of the Vikings back to different parts of Scandinavia and all the way back to when people first colonised Scandinavia at the end of the Ice Age. If you suspect you are a Viking, this is for you.

I love Ireland and the Irish people...we’ve travelled there twice and plan to go back...the island is just beautiful and I loved the Irish people that we met...so I was quite happy when my DNA showed predominantly Irish...wish I could live there for awhile...

From DNA testing I know that my mother's side is largely Swedish with a bit of Finnish mixed in. My maternal haplogroup is J1b1a. My dad's family is Irish and British with a bit of Scandinavian mixed in. This video has raised all sorts of questions for me. Are the J1's like me from the hunters, farmers or bronze age? Could my dad's family be of Viking origin? Any ideas of next steps to take to pursue these questions?

Peter it was an in lighting lecture on the DNA, i did an ancestry DNA Kit and it came back 30% irish 25% Scandinavian; therefore your saying R1a is a viking, my last name is Taylor and all my Ancestries in the Taylor side of my blood line are very large male figures the other % of my DNA is from Great Britain and Togo. I would like to take a DNA test through your genetic genealogy kit if you have one.

My DNA test revealed I’m from Munster Ireland 36% and around 25-30% Viking linked DNA. I’m more Swedish than Norwegian it says. My Viking link is larger than I first thought. Actually I’m stunned. DNA can be amplified by a presence in a Viking controlled region.

I did the DNA test and the results were over 60% Irish....next was over 20% Scandinavian...I think it was 5% English...and the rest was Western European...I’m not sure which country qualifies as Western European...I don’t think I have any Scandinavian names in our history..lots of Irish names...O’Neal being one...I thought maybe the Scandinavian DNA came from Vikings who invaded Irelandand Scotland...

Peter I am surprised that you did not mention the fact that the Irish who have the Y-DNA R1b could also be of Viking decent considering that 31% of Norwegians are R1b! In fact Haplogroup R1b is most prevalent in western and southern Norway, near the seacoast! ? Also you show R1b coming only to Norway from Ireland and it was actually the other way around. Are you trying to say the Irish fathered 31% of the Scandinavian population??? You missed a huge segment of Irish with Scandinavian decent from R1b and your flow chart ignores a huge group.

That still does not make them "vikings". They were there BEFORE the Vikings. The Vikings evolved from the ancient saxons, many of which migrated North.

No R1b has been in Ireland since the early Bronze Age, it did not come during the Viking age. Are you suggesting Norwegians fathered 84% of the Irish population?

Careful! Ancestry dot com sells your DNA to the FBI and also, they are NOT accurate - they give a very broad range at best. You might better have it done by a private lab, which will cost about $400.00 or more but it will be much more accurate. Pin pointing "Viking" DNA is extremely difficult so dont be fooled by the internet fake claims. Actual "Viking" DNA is very dilute because they traveled and bred all over most of the globe. If you can trace as many generations as possible to those relatives who were Irish Nationals, you pretty much will have some "Viking" in your genes. I am a Sociologist and study this very intently. Btw, modern biased history would like to have you believe anything other than the truth. We are NOT frome european origins, we are NOT caucasians. Calling us CELTS "european" or "caucasian" is RACIST and OFFENSIVE. Only within the past century did Ireland join the European Union, but in antiquity, we were never actual europeans. "Europa" was very small. Thank Darwin for all the bullshit lies about us. Did you know? Vikings even bred in Spain. Best to you, my friend.
