Bamberg is beer heaven! I agree with you with it being one of the best Helles along with Augustiner but my favourite will always be Tegernseer Hell. If you ever go there you NEED to try it on draught at the Bräustuberl 🍻
When I first tried this beer, I wasn't sure, because I'd been drinking a bunch of north German pils, like flensburger, Jever, and Veltins at the time, and it's not as bitter as those beers, but tonight comparing it to keesman herren pils, and goller pils, it's definitely in keeping with the Bamberger style of pils. Not as bitter, and much bigger malt character. It gave me a new appreciating for this beer.
I always get this and Georgbraeu mixed up, which is in Berlin, on the banks of the Spree opposite the new palace rebuild near the statue of St George. I think you would like it.
Knew this one would be highly rated from how good their Helles is. Inhad some great bottles and some great pints in Germany but if I'm honest, the best I had by far was Löwenbräu Helles at a little out of the way restaurant in a residential neighbourhood in Munich. Maybe it was super fresh. It absolutely blew me away. Never had its like before or since. The bottled stuff is solid but not special by Bavarian standards. Makes me wonder just how good Augustiner must be on tap when it's extremely fresh.
More of a rauchbier man myself when it comes to beer from Bamberg. Ron Pattinson in his mild book described helles, dunkel and Czech dark lager as mild lagers as they are sweeter and less hoppy than pilsner.

Same here - German Beer and Jack Russells are best on the planet. Both outstanding

Ron Pattinson really is a knowledgeable bloke when it comes to beer and on beer history.
