Here are my thoughts on Arrighetti:
Obviously Arrighetti’s debut was very bad, but he definitely had some bad luck in this one. He didn’t get barreled up at all, and induced plenty of weak contact. He suffered from a super high .538 BABIP (.300 is average) and control issues. Let’s focus on the positives first, the four-seam was absolutely great. He has a low arm slot, great extension, and averaged 94.8 mph. His sweeper also was pretty good, with a 50% whiff rate. I assumed he would use the cutter in on lefties, but it seemed like he was comfortable enough to use it anywhere. I think he should just throw the fastball more, even though the command wasn’t there. He’s never had great command, with a 4.3 BB/9 last year which might lead him to a relief role. I still think there’s back of the rotation stuff there, but if he continues to struggle as much with the command he’ll be moved to the bullpen. With the Astros dire situation in the rotation though, he will be there until some of the guys get more healthy.
