Actually, Cato said the university’s name correctly because จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย (Chulalongkorn University) means the university of King Chulalongkorn in Thai. It is different from other university’s names.
This is the only university that is opposite from what you have said. All of the other Thai universities use the same format as what you have explained in the video.
If you call มหาวิทยาลัยจุฬาลงกรณ์, it might be understood as the university for monk which has the same name as Chulalongkorn university. By the way, as Thai people I’m so surprised and impressed with many foreigners who are interested in Thai. Cheer you all up to keep learning Thai. Please come to Thailand when Covid-19 situation is over 😊
ขอบคุณมากครับพี่ Paddy ครับ! Thank you for your advice and correction 😄 I can't wait to travel to Thailand for the first time (hopefully next year) to further improve my Thai 😊 Thank you very much 😀🇵🇭
Wow, your Thai is very good but you never been to Thailand? I thought you have lived in Thailand or visited your cousins in Thailand before. Would love to know more from you Doys.
I agree. At first, I was hoping to hear she says that she is a student who live in Thailand lol. I was surprised that she never been to Thailand, but her Thai is very good. Thai music and drama really got her into it. Bravo Cris.
Hey Paddy .. great clip. I think it's been mentioned in other comments - Chulalongkorn Mahawitthayalai is correct - it's using Sanskrit grammar - it's a sign of reverence for the king's name. As you get into Rachasap you'll start to notice a lot more exceptions to Tai rules as they're pulling from Sanskrit and Khmer
1:45 I literally started learning thai yesterday, and now because of these videos you made, i can already tell the tonal mistakes!! Haha so happy these really do help
I am Chinese and am currently learning Thai by myself, the two tips that you gave at 2:49 are just fantastic!!!!!!! so helpful! please share more of these kind xxx
Your pronunciation with อึ อือ are very clear and impressive. As a Thai who uses English a lot in terms of reading and listening and a lil bit of writing and almost never speak confidently, I was inspired by your vids very much as I saw people around the world speak my language. Keep up your good work Paddy!
I’m Thai and it is interesting that actually Chulalongkorn University is called จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย in Thai. Though the word order is adj+n which is not according to the normal grammatical noun+adj structure, it is the way we always call it in Thailand. It’d be weird to hear a Thai person say มหาวิทยาลัยจุฬาลงกรณ์ to mean Chulalongkorn University.
As Yohan explained to us he got adantages more than the other guys in the vid. He spoke Thai in the videos like native speakers. Especially conjunctions, Phrasal verbs exe.
My heart was beating so much when I saw myself in the video... Thank you for your kind advice, Paddy. Your channel is just great, and thanks to you I know I'm on the right way! (Lera)
Many Russians visit Thailand, so maybe there could be some interesting career opportunities for you? I've seen Russian guests and Thai staff in a hotel talking to each other in English, because it was their only language in common. (Either one was hard for me to understand as a native English speaker, so both were having a really hard time.)
You are so cute Lera. Can't believe a 16 years old girl who never been to Thailand before but could speak Thai this good. You will get better as the time you go to Thailand, and you will make a lot friends from there.
Thank you for always making these wonderful videos! I never knew that there're many people from different countries learning Thai language. We learn English because it is used worldwide. But you guys learn Thai which can be used only in Thailand, a small country. Thank you for being interested in Thai language. I'm so impressed! ขอบคุณนะคะ 🙏✨
I, as a native, was amazed by Yohan's speaking. The way he pronounces, accents and chooses the words in the sentences seems like those of native Thai speakers. I'm learning English and I hope my English skill would be as good as his Thai skill someday haha.
I love your channel, Paddy. You always put out excellent videos! I've watched a lot of your videos. They're very educational and entertaining. 😊 However, when Cato said he's a Master's student at จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย (Chulalongkorn Mahawittayalai), this is a correct way to say it. (I know normally you would say มหาวิทยาลัย followed by the name of the university, but Chulalongkorn is the King's name that's why it's an exception that we put the name before a word university). I was a student at Chulalongkorn University as well, and I always call my Uni จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย (Chulalongkorn Mahawittayalai). But yes we would normally say Mahawittayalai followed by the name.😉 Anyway, your Thai is flawless, and you're truly incredible. Thank you so much for making videos about Thailand, Thai culture, and language. I'll keep watching your videos. Have a great day! 👍😊
Thanks Khun Paddy for yet another episode and including me in this one. And also thanks for the constructive critique of all my mistakes! I had better go back to Thai School! 555. Living in Bangkok I find my Thai speaking skills are OK until I really need them the most , and then they usually let me down! 😂
Love these series. As it helps me improve my thai listening skills (I am terrible at that lol) good job as so many foreigners don't speak Thai it's difficult for me conversational as I learn from doing it good job
Just watched ep1 to ep4 in one setting. Very entertaining and impressive especially the ones learning the language from their native country. Very well done, guys!
Hey buddy watched a few of your videos now, this series in particular is great. I’m also Australian and I did an exchange program in high school so I (used to at least) speak Danish (this was 10+ years ago I’m now 29) but now I live in Montreal and speak Canadian French. Loved your comment about the first guy and having fun with it, I talk so much shit in french and everyone enjoys that to. It’s a great way to get more familiar with how the locals talk vs textbooks. My ability is probably a little lower than yours in Thai but you sound great man 👍
The name of Chulalongkorn University is spoken in Thai in the same word order as in English unlike other university names. The students there are called นิสิต and at other universities นักศึกษา. By the way, King Chulalongkorn (Rama 5) was the son of King Mongkut (Rama 4) who was the king in the movie "The King and I." King Chulalongkorn abolished slavery in Thailand shortly after the Civil War in America. There used to be a picture of him freeing the slaves on the back of one of the currency notes but I just looked at some of my baht notes and the notes have been changed with the new King's pictures.
Love this series. It's so inspiring. I'm not seriously studying Thai and have only dabbled in the past, but it makes me so tempted to jump in and have a proper go. Bring on Part 5!
I love your channel so much, keep watching them all lol. Love to see how many of these new faces who speak Thai. Some are very good in Thai, and some are very cute when they speak. Love your channel.
Thanks again for bringing the global Thai language community together. Very helpful for my journey learning the language. Hope we can meet you in Petchabun one day.
A great video, Paddy. Well done. It looks like you are, in way, an inverse version of me. Lera was awesome. I agree with you on the constant use of pronouns. Also, there is an alternative to using ฉัน ฉัน ฉัน repeatedly. For younger people, the word หนู would sound more natural. I agree with you in Cris' case. The ป sound is rather foreign to English speakers and that's why พระเทศไทย is often heard. Doys was awesome. His use of ก็ และก็ เด็กๆ showed he is thinking past grammar rules. These words are learned by real life conversation. He said ก็ instead of เพราะว่า (because) after the "why am I studying Thai?" . This showed he is very fluent. Hmmm, maybe I should post a video (maybe...) so you could critique my Thai as well. 555
It's one of my first time seeing another black person, trying to learn Thai like me and I've also never been to Thailand but I wish to one day, it's a motivation for me to also learn Thai as well✨
Hey Mark! Please send me a video via a google drive link to thaitalkpj@gmail.com Probably will not do a part 5 for a while but still definitely send one in!
Cris speaks too fast, and a bit halting at times, as if she's not sure how to pronounce some words. Paddy gave good advice that she needs to slow down, once she knows the words and how to pronounce them properly, she can speed up, this is the way I learned English anyway. I made sure to pronounce the words correctly, spell correctly, along with listen to English/American music while reading American magazines, watching TV & eating dinner at the same time. It works for me, but it might be too much for others though. Each one of us has a different method of learning, mine is just a little bit OUT THERE, lol. I am now learning French & Spanish at the same time. I am a bit hyper-active, 555. ลา กอ่น ค่ะ
Doys is cute. I like to watch when he speaks Thai lol. I have watched many Filipino teachers in Thailand who have their own channels as well. I'm so glad to see many Filipinos who are interesting to learn Thai and work in Thailand.
Great job Paddy ! You are humble (Thai spirit ;-) to say that your Thai is not perfect but I’m so much enjoying your channel and you are really inspiring me to start learning Thai. Almost every year we go to thailand. My wife (although being Colombian) are really crazy about thailand. We just come home from a 2 month stay in a house in a 100% Thai neighbourhood in chiang rai and I was so sad not being able to communicate with my so lovely Thai neighbours. I tried some apps and websites to learn but found them worthless because they don’t give you feedback and after some day of studying I was left with tons of questions and google translate don’t really offer a solution;-) I understand, speak and write fluently 6 European languages but Thai is really a challenge 😮 as I can never relate a new word to another language…and have to memorise it all. I’m 65 and this is not really helping me 😅 Could you consult me on how to proceed? I found bananathai on the internet. Perhaps you have heard of it ? But you are for me the number one !;-). The way you give language tips in this clip is just great ! The only thing I miss a bit is the word order but of course you cannot put 4 lines of text above the video ;-) You really don’t consider teaching ??? 🙏😉
Chulalongkorn university is exceptional. They call themselves chulalongkorn mahavitayalai but you are correct. Other universities we say university + name such as mahavitayalai Thamasart, mahavitayalai Kasetsart.
I think Cris gave the best reason for learning a different language. I watched J movies and listened to J music and eventually wanted to understand what they were saying and singing. I'm a baby speaker of Japanese but I know some really bizarre words. Like who needs to know the words for hydrangea and sunflower as a newby?
I think foreign female learners of Thai tend to overuse ฉัน. But Thai women won't use it when doing this presentation. They will usually say their own name. And young girls will call themselves as หนู instead.
omg been watching this series 'cause I self-study Thai, and I want to improve the way I speak. and this episode surprised me when a Filipino fluently speaks Thai! hope someday I can naturally speak Thai like them
Actually, Cato said the university’s name correctly because จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย (Chulalongkorn University) means the university of King Chulalongkorn in Thai. It is different from other university’s names.
Thank you for pointing this out! My mistake and apologies to Cato!
@@ThaiTalkwithPaddy It’s fine Paddy😄. จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย is a คำสมาส which comes from two words (จุฬาลงกรณ and มหาวิทยาลัย).

I think foreign female learners of Thai tend to overuse ฉัน. But Thai women won't use it when doing this presentation. They will usually say their own name. And young girls will call themselves as หนู instead.
omg been watching this series 'cause I self-study Thai, and I want to improve the way I speak. and this episode surprised me when a Filipino fluently speaks Thai! hope someday I can naturally speak Thai like them
Thank you :D
