- The first London mayoral hustings had to be halted after Sadiq Khan faced repeated protests from an audience member over his record on tackling violent crime.
The event on Thursday night was suspended for about 20 minutes when Andreas Michli, an independent mayoral candidate, repeatedly shouted out the names of teenage knife crime victims, preventing Mr Khan from speaking.
Mr Michli, who was sat in the middle of the 200-strong audience with two supporters, eventually agreed to leave after multiple requests from the venue’s security staff.
He said he was protesting about “the absolute doo-doo coming out of his [Mr Khan’s] mouth” after the mayor said “austerity” was to blame for the rise in violent crime.

True, it's everyone's capital. But that does also remove the point of the Mayor. Which I think would be a sensible move given the sorry list so far.

@@toni6053 yes, because it would remove the point of the London Assembly to do so but, I understand the sentiment. One reason might be the London Mayor engages in political dialogue on a global scale. In as much as he represents Londoners, (if you can call it that, turnout is not good) he cannot claim to represent the whole of Britain's interests and influence abroad. It is a local government post with the highest national and international profile and there is always the risk of London-centrisim.

Went to London for the first time in about 20 years ,couldn’t believe how bad it has become,are there any cockneys left because I couldn’t find any ,watched protests taking place and they were actively smashing windows and the police stood there and let them do it ,appalling

It really does seem to me that the recent intakes of politicians - national and local - have reached a notable "low"
in quality, increasingly out of touch - as if it marks some sort of qualification - with the concerns of the
general population. Mayor Khan's promotion of his Ulez obsession on a massivley extended scale is one
example. The excuse of it being a "health" measure is risible, not least based on my own situation here in
the centre of this great metropolis where I've have spent extended working hours amongst the traffic of some
of its busiest streets and currently live, in retirement, a stone's thrwo from what is reported to be its busiest
road, with no sign or symptom of respiratory illness...aged 80!
Mayor's should only be allowed 1 term , we definitely don't want Khan again.

Judaism is not only a religion, but also a culture and ethnicity. JW3 is a secular Jewish arts and culture community centre. You can enjoy a small theater, restaurant, library, creative classes, exhibitions, leisure activities etc. This event is open to everyone to join and for candidates from all the political spectrum to share their agenda (yes, even Khan🤢). It is very common that different local community centres (of different religions, ethnicities or backgrounds) all around the country/city hosting such panels during election time. Very simple!
