Hey there! If you are still interested in teaching on Skillshare and would like to plan it using Notion, I'd love it if you use my new template: bit.ly/3qxDfG1
Wow! I am so impressed. I am thinking of teaching an online course to make a living because I am totally broke and can't even pay my bills. I started youtube and other things but it is not working. I think I can do this. I am very happy about your video. Please let's get in touch. How do I link up with you? I am so interested.
I just happened to find a fellow South African, you are really wonderful. Thank you for your video.
Ahhh thank you so much for the comment and support, means so much to me!
This video is very helpful. Hopefully, my skill share journey is gonna be easy now. Thank you!
Hi Tasveer! If you are still planning on launching a Skillshare course, and are open to using Notion to plan it, I have created a little template to help aspiring teachers: bit.ly/3qxDfG1
Thank you so much for this videos about Skillshare.., I'm feeling more open to finally become a teacher in that platform.
Hi there! If you are thinking of launching your Skillshare course in the new year I have created a free Notion template which I am hoping will help you :) bit.ly/3qxDfG1
You are a Wonderful teacher! Thank you! It looks like I'm doing it all wrong. I have one 11.5 hr course on Skillshare and I'm half way through building another enormous course on creativity. What I should be doing, per your wise guidance, is create much shorter project centered courses. It's too late for me to change course now with the course I'm currently building (I've been working on it for many months). Maybe having two large courses on the platform will set up a foundation for future courses. One can hope. CONGRATULATIONS on your Skillshare success! You certainly deserve to just grow and grow and grow. Thanks again.
Hi Peter! It is always a pleasure. I would suggest uploading your courses to Udemy as well, you may well find they are successful there (most successful classes seem to have 8+ hours of content on Udemy). So not a train smash by any means, and as you say. - a great foundation! I had to summarise an 8 week course into a 1 hour masterclass for Skillshare 😅 but at least one can be ruthless. The policy with Udemy is simply that the content can’t be available for free else where (eg UA-cam) but as Skillshare is paygated it shouldn’t be a problem. Good luck 🍀
@@MegsHollis @Megs Hollis Thanks for the advice. I'm sort of following a Udemy model. Typically, when two courses are teaching the same thing, and one course is longer than the other, then the longer course usually wins the sale (so I've been told). I prefer Skillshare though, and I want to follow your advice. Skillshare's pay model is more appealing in my opinion. Everything is moving towards a streaming subscription model, so my guess is that Skillshare will be an even bigger platform in the future. So, yeah, I'm already on Udemy. / That's amazing that you condensed an 8 week course down into an hour! I imagine that was rather painful. I have two master's degrees and am pretty good at condensing vast amounts of information, but I don't think I could turn an 8 week course into an hour course. Very impressive! Maybe when I get bigger on Skillshare we could follow each other. I'm small right now (only 60 students)./ I've been invited to join Stackcommerce and Skillsuccess, but I'm nervous about joining them. Skillsuccess, for example, makes you sign a contract with some weird requirements. Like you MUST respond to a comment within 72 hours. That's okay for now, but what about 20 years from now? I didn't sign with either of them yet. Thanks again!
thx you - yes i am in the process of making my first skillshare video although i do have my own UA-cam channel going ... this was great to hear from you and i did take down notes...thnk you tons....cheers...
This is so helpful and detailed. Thank you.
Thanks for making my day Ruby 💖
The best video on skillshare, thank you!

Woohoo Rodrigo this is such exciting news 😍 good luck with creating your course, you are going to rock it 🤩
This is incredibly helpful - thank you!!
Hi the Raelan, if you are interested in launching a Skillshare course in the new year I have just created a free Notion template to help aspiring teachers :) bit.ly/3qxDfG1
Your video has so much helpful info! I recently registered for the Fall Teach Challenge on SkillShare and am in the process of planning my course.
thank you so much for the infos and tips ..i want to start teaching there
OMG you're stunning, charismatic, and smart. Oh, btw, invaluable information you've given us here. 🙏🏻

It was so lovely meeting you guys! Thanks for an awesome shoot. I am glad I could be helpful, I think you and your partner will kill it teaching on Skillshare! 🤞💪
Thank you! I’m excited to make my first course!
Amazing Melanie, best of luck! You are going to smash it.
Great Video Megs!!! Thank you!
Thank you so much Raymond for the kind words 💙
Thankyou so much for this video! It was super helpful for me :) Subbed you and liked your video
That’s amazing thank you for supporting my journey 💖
Thank you for the videos. Could you please share your notion template? Appreciate all of your insight. Have a wonderful day.
Hi there Jaime, I know this is SO delayed but thanks to everyone's encouragement I now DO have a super helpful Notion template to share to help with the plan and all the resources you may need to start teaching. Hope it helps! bit.ly/3qxDfG1
You are Incredible! Thank you 😍
Hi...thanks....can I make skillshare course without showing face....I am very camera shy etc....no idea whether this is acceptable on skillshare?
Hi there! I can relate ⭐️ it is tough going initially! There is nothing preventing you from being off camera by way of regulations, so it would just come down to how engaging you could make it 💖 Maybe an over head camera and lots of transitions? I think it’s definitely worth trying 😻
@@MegsHollis great....thanks
I love your vibe!
Thank you so much Janos this made my day 💛
This was awesome! Thank you!
Thank you so much for watching and supporting my channel!
Thanks Love it
Thank you very helpful. What platform did you use to create the course?
Hi there! I mainly use screen recordings using the built in Windows functionality and do my editing of footage in Da Vinci Resolve ✨
I really enjoyed this! I am a freelance writer/editor who just got asked to give a quote for turning a section of an author's book into a skillshare class. I'm not sure how long this will take me so I'm not sure what to tell him. He wants me to 1) write the script 2) do the voiceover work 3) edit the video. If you (or anyone else!) has gone through this whole process and can give me some insight into how many hours this might be total I would really appreciate it! I think he is looking to do mini-courses, so I want to give him a price per 20 minute course.
Yayyy thank you Robin for such a great comment. I recently billed a client for 75 hours for a 90 minute elearning class but I had a lot of the material already). I used an editor though and that included their time. I would guesstimate around 30 - 40 hours but it’s so damn hard to say! I also bought a teleprompter with some of the deposit money which was a massive time saver / life saver. 🌷💖 hope that helps somewhat!
It’s also NB for Skillshare to remember not to self promote (in this case I guess promote the author) or use branding in your slides. And coming up with the project first is a great tip - this is a central part of a Skillshare course. Wishing you all the best Robin 🌷
@@MegsHollis Super helpful, thank you!
Hi Meg -- I was half way through watching your Introduction to Social Media Marketing on SkillShare and it suddenly stopped, disappeared and now isn't visible under your course list! Any idea what's happened? Thanks so much for your courses, anyway, all very useful! Becca
Aw no I’m sorry Becca! It must have been a technical glitch as it’s still very much live on my side! Maybe it was just a temporary gremlin, hoping it’s been resolved! Shout if not and I can ask Skillshare to assist us 💖🤗 thank you so much for taking my course and supporting me ✨
Did you find your revenue grew substantially now that this video is over a year old?
Hi there! Maybe not substantially but it is still growing! You can see the updated earnings video here :) ua-cam.com/video/7-sWM_Tt1cw/v-deo.html
@@MegsHollis Thanks, I'll check it out.
Tks fr ur videos. Can we teach also modern languages?
so where do you normal sell you courses i mean which platform
thank you so much Megs, exciting information. I'm video editor for more than 10 years and I'm planning to start teaching on skill share but my target audience is arab people .. I mean the script will be in Arabic .. i can do it in English, but there in general people in middle east like Arabic language to communicate with.
What is your opinion? besides I don't know if skill share supports language other than English ?
Best of luck :)
Hello Hussain! Ah I’m so excited for your learning journey!!! To be honest even if Skillshare “supports” other languages, you need to think about the profile of their users is mainly people in the US. Eg I always reference stuff in dollars even though I am in South Africa. I would try to pick a learning marketplace with highest concentration of Arabic audience perhaps? It might not be Skillshare e.g maybe Udemy better suited? What if you made a teaser video / trailer for the course (like a sneak peak) in Arabic with a similar title to the course and see what views you get through organic search to test demand (you can also try Google trends for this). Just some ideas. Wishing you only the best! Thank you for supporting my channel🌷
@@MegsHollis Thanks again Megs.
I'll try udemy as you said. I'm also planning to promote the course in different social media platform but do you suggest to make a webinar for the course? As I know it's a good way for promotion. I would like to keep in touch with you if you have any other accounts for future questions.
@@hussainyounes5576 I think webinars are great! And you can upload to Udemy and Skillshare to see which does better :) So just dont reference either platform in the course itself so you can upload it to multiple places :) You just cant upload the content for free somewhere like UA-cam otherwise it contravenes Udemy and Skillshare rules. You are welcome to comment in future, I always try to get back to queries! All the best, Megs
Do you have to pay to teach on Skillshare, or do you just start creating courses
Hi Thembelihle, such a great question thank you! As of 15th September 2021, anyone consuming content on the platform has to have a paid subscription with the exception of teachers. HOWEVER, it is super helpful to sign up for a trial to watch other teachers in your niche. I hope that helps and wishing you all the best!
@@MegsHollis thank you😊
i have a question...if i have a paid commission for a customer and i want to record the process and offer it as a course on Skillshare will they allow that..?
Yes I don’t think that would be an issue! Great idea.
Can you share the notion template?
Hi there! Yes with pleasure, I have put all the Skillshare info I have found useful on a template and included the kanban planning tool! Really hope it helps you and wishing you all the best: bit.ly/3qxDfG1
What software do you use to record your screen?
I just use Windows in built screen recording software now but I used to use Loom. Hope that helps!
@@MegsHollis yeah it does. Thanks. Although mine won't record outside of the application I started recording with
@@vlogrecapmovies2308 Oh I see yes I have also seen that happen before, so frustrating! Loom has a free version for short clips so if you have the patience you could probs stitch a couple of clips together (or upgrade to paid version). Best of luck!
How can I get the notion workbook you created?
Hi there Heer! Yes with pleasure, I have just made it into a template. I hope it helps you! bit.ly/3qxDfG1
What video edit program do you use?
Hi Said! Thanks for watching. I use iMovie 🤩
goood
🐋
This video was extremely informative, you’re awesome at what you do!!! Keep up the amazing work😊
That’s so kind of you Grace 🥹 thank you for the comment!
Skillshare has a F rating with the BBB (BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU) Their numbers they are marketing are false, they have had 49 complaints in the last 12 months, many people have a hard time canceling their subscription and then when they are able to they don't get refunded the difference and skillshare have raised their prices it used to be 99$ for the year now it 167$ a year. I almost signed up for it until I checked the BBB and read reddit, thank you to those 2 platforms. Always do your due diligence when thinking about doing business with anyone, theirs simply TO MANY people & company's that can't wait to rip you off....
