Sitting down with not just one but two of the most influential Running Backs in the league, today Pivot episode is story of how two men from completely different backgrounds landed on same team competing for same position and ended up becoming family.
Detroit’s Jamaal Williams and Green Bay’s Aaron Jones sit with Ryan, Channing, and Fred for a conversation covering their football journey, growing as men on and off the field and how loss of loved ones has shaped their story.
For four seasons, Aaron and Jamaal were constants in the Green Bay Packers backfield before Jamaal settled for a two-year deal with the NFC North rival Detroit Lions in 2021. Aaron and Jamaal describe their relationship as more of “brothers” than friends.
Fred and Channing curiously ask how they maintained the brotherhood despite competing for same role on same team and even now that they are on rival teams. Jamaal talks about how the decision to leave Green Bay to go to the Lions was hard but in the end had to do what was best for him and his family.
One commonality that Aaron and Jamaal bonded over and share was having influential male figures in their life. For Aaron, his father and for Jamaal, it was his uncle/trainer. In an emotional conversation, Aaron and Jamaal open up about the recent loss of these men in their lives and how it’s affected them and changed their course of life.
Fred, someone both backs have looked up to, leans into the upbringing Aaron had as a military child and the influence his parents had on him as he discusses this past NFL season being an emotional rollercoaster due to grieving and his first without his father.
Ryan commends Jamaal on his recent breakout season with the Lions and talks with the young back about his emotional interviews this past year and dealing with so much emotion while playing football.
With one of the major NFL offseason storylines tracking where QB Aaron Rodgers lands, Aaron Jones talks about his teammate’s leadership and drive pushed him to be a better player on the field and understand more the impact of winning and how to handle disappointment. Jones said he doesn’t want to see Rodgers leave but is prepared for what the team may be like with his absence.
Similarly, Jamal says he’s received that same motivation from coach Dan Campbell and shares stories of his dual approach to get the team fired up.
With a trio of running backs sitting together, you know the show can’t end without Fred asking who their top 5 RBs currently in the league are and why.

Jamaal Williams is the first guest to make Channing’s personality look normal 😂
I could legit watch multiple episodes of Jamaal trying to explain nerd culture to Channing and Channing explaining being social to Jamaal lol. Both of them got great personalities. Only difference with them is Chan is a millennial and Jamaal is gen z, they grew up during different times
Alot of people gloss over episodes like this because the guests in the title arent huge names yet, but this is one of the best episodes since they started in my opinion.
Jamaal a real one. Always be true to yourself. As an introvert nerd myself, I felt every word he said. We're misunderstood. Even though we don't call or hang out all the time it's all love. Respect us for who we are, anime and all. Jamaal is truly my brother from another mother. Stay humble and down to earth loved one.
Hating on Freddie T for properly pronouncing "Sombrero" 😂
I love when RC asks Fred’s question about the biggest pivotal moment in these peoples lives, he never neglects to give Fred his credit. That’s real stand up guy behavior
Fred rolling the ‘r’ in sombrero had me DYING. 😂😂😂
Jamal & Aaron are just Fred & Channing 10 yrs younger 😂😂😂
This episode is full of character, brotherhood, and genuine love. One of the best episodes I’ve ever watched in ANY podcast. Job well done @thepivotpodcast
Jamal Williams personality is fire
Damn this episode not the first but made me shed a tear the relationship between these 2 brothers and not being afraid to to be there for one another was beautiful to watch
Jamal's personality is so refreshing. To hear him say he's a introvert sucks.. cause it's not common to watch someone so genuine and entertaining be themselves.
Damn Jamaal had me crying at the end and I was fighting it 😂😂😂
This is the show you watch to get to know the person not that player i love it
I just became a huge fan of Jamaal Williams. His so down to earth and funny. Go Jamaal!!!
This was a OUTSTANDING episode y'all I fr love this show no gimmicks no bullshit just raw and genuine
Jamaal Williams is a national treasure…my guy must be protected at all cost!
No matter the guests the Pivot is always 🔥
Mannn protect Jamaal Williams at all cost!! lol Thank you for being your authentic nerdy self 🔥🔥 Love the pivot for bringing these two on the show 🙏🏿
I love that Jamal is just himself!
