I would have felt awful if my suggestions still didn't turn out being the right colour and yarn, just so glad I could help and that you have some now!
And of course I'm seeing it everywhere now! 😉 I was walking past a Browse In And Save store yesterday and they have a ton of variegated yarn just like what's at Ned's, and they had a yarn that looked just like the one at Spotlight, so if you have one of those stores near you you can always go there if you need any more! 😉
I've travelled by bus to many different Spotlight stores a few months ago when I was on the hunt for some of the All In One Granny Square yarn in the Mill Ends bags, and found most of what I wanted but always wanted to get the blue/pink/black blend one, but never could find a full bag of that, only one mixture bag one time that had one singular ball in it!
I went to about seven different stores in the end, travelling about an hour and a half each way like you, it's funny what we're willing to do to track down some elusive yarn! Maybe my karma will lead me to some one day?? 😊
I agree with a commenter below that you should make something special now that you've found the yarn, maybe you could make a hexagon jumper like the cardigan you've been wearing but in jumper form where it's joined up the back and front. It needs to be something special to honour the hunt, but I can so relate that I wouldn't have worked out what to do with the square having been so invested in the hunt for the yarn!! 😉 So the journey continues!! 😊🤔

So you are also on the hunt for the Red Heart Super Saver all in one granny square yarn? I will keep an eye out for the blue/pink/black one for you! I keep seeing the red/green/yellow/white and black one down here, and the green and black one, but haven't seen the one you're after - the Black Hyper Violet I think it's called? Is it that one? There is a website called Craft2u that is an Australian based company, thst stock American yarn - they may have some in stock? I believe they are a great resource for a lot of Aussie crafters who rely on American or overseas imported yarns, and they have a great reputation. Perhaps they may be useful? I completely understand if you'd prefer to find it in the wild, though! ☺️🤞

@@MelsYarniverse Interesting, so you're on the hunt for the All In One granny square yarn too, and yes, those colourways that you mentioned are the main ones that you see everywhere, especially that Green Scream one! Perhaps us Aussies aren't a fan of that colour blend??
That is the correct name for the one I've been trying to find, Hyper Violet, definitely one of the rarer ones! Which colourways have you been searching for?
I have finally managed to get the main four that were always the most special ones to me, which were - Aran Cream, such a lovely neutral colour blend, Aran Soft Sky, Warm Wheat and the lovely Lily Pad. I remember the first time I finally came across a bag of the Warm Wheat, I had a reaction like you had walking up to this Marvel Prints Baby yarn of yours!! :)
Thanks for letting me know about the website, I will take a look and see what kind of prices they're asking. I do agree that it is a lot more fun to "find it in the wild" though! I think we won't be seeing this All In One yarn for much longer though in the mill ends packs, as they have discontinued it it in the states, due to most people finding it very stressful to use as far as getting the colour change to hit at the right spot.
I definitely found that too and had to switch back and forth between different hook sizes to get it to work, but now that I've managed to make some of the squares I'm just probably going to use it as variegated yarn, which is fine. I think we were lucky to have it turn up in our mill ends bags so am just grateful we could get it that way and save our pennies over needing to order it online!

Oh no, I'm sorry, I'm not looking for the all in one, I just meant that you are also on the hunt for a specific yarn like I was! I will absolutely look out for the Hyper Violet for you. I'm always digging around in the mill ends bins, so if it's anywhere near me, I can definitely let you know 😊
I haven't used the Red Heart all in one yarn yet. I've heard some people have issues with the granny squares lining up correctly, so it's good to hear that you've found the sweet spot! Are you making something in particular with it?
I did, and you're absolutely right! I was really shocked! Why wouldn't they make them all available online? So many gorgeous colours! I really loved the Eden colourway. It's stunning! 😍

@@MelsYarniverse thanks Mel. That is very useful. I do enjoy watching you potter around Australian thrift stores and it is as if I am with you even though I live in Ireland. They are great big stores and a treasure trove just to browse around. Our thrift stores here are much smaller; only shops really so I am happy to virtually potter alongside with you Mel. A question since we are talking team work here. I was at my local Spotties the other day looking for sock yarn, I did not find any sock yarn per se, but I came away with baby yarn to give that a go. Any thoughts or other suggestions as to where I might find any in Sth Aus? 😀Many thanks. I could go to a local small yarn shop, but I am on a budget currently so their yarn prices are a bit out of my zone for the minute.
Hi there, I wanted to ask, what is sock yarn? Is there a specific type of yarn used to make socks?
I've knitted and now crochet but haven't made socks before, so didn't know if there was a certain type of yarn for making socks, but I am in SA too and was able to help our lovely lady here to track down the yarn she just found by letting her know some details, so am happy to try and help you too if I can. 😊
@@alwayslearning9272 sock yarn is usually merino and nylon mix. That is the best I am gathering for socks, although there is cotton and bamboo that can be used, but they have different properties and behave differently.
I am going to attempt a pair this weekend knitting on circular needles which are a first for me 😀
Ok, thanks for clarifying that for me. I don't tend to look at Merino blend wool but feel that Spotlight should have something like that, or maybe you could try Lincraft?
I bought some circular needles a little while back so I could try making a jumper in the round, to avoid needing to join up the sides afterwards, so should do that someday! Enjoy your sock making!
Hiya! :) What a lovely idea to make something of significance for someone, so very thoughtful. There is a couple of knitting and crocheting charities here in my area that could probably do with a blanket or 2. Maybe I could do that?
Hmm, I'm not very familiar with SA, however I have heard that Neds and Browse in and Save (thanks @alwayslearning9272!) are some good budget stores that stock yarn - not too sure about sock yarn specifically though. I do know that Bendigo Woollen Mills have a fine merino sock yarn that is also machine washable, however they can be a little on the pricey side - I think around $14 for 100g ball last time I checked. It is very good quality though and they have lots of beautiful colours available. I think Wangaratta Woollen Mills also had some Cleckheaton 5 ply that is 50% nylon, 50% acrylic that was on sale for $5 per 50gm ball - it was called Brushstrokes I think? That is all hand dyed too, so they would look lovely.
Thank you for clarifying what sock yarn is and how it differs from other yarns! I was also curious about it! Good luck with your circular needles! I use them occasionally to make beanies but I'm not a great knitter lol

Has anyone asked about a pattern for that beautiful cardigan you are wearing? If they have excuse me for asking again ... and can it be made really long - like down past the bum long? Not a fan of these short cardis or jumpers, never have been really lol
