When I was a kid, my uncle had a 1970 GS Stage 1 455 4 speed and it was nuts in 1983 when I was 15. My Dad called it 'The Beast' and after my first ride, I never wondered why.

Buick lover , I own a 1966 Buick Riviera GS bought on the night of Desert Storm from original owner, full options available including twin Carter 4bbl's, factory redlines Tiger Paw's, and I'm original owner of 1987 Buick Grand National 31,000 miles, T-Roofs, some engine bolt ons, not afraid to run against the newer Dodges and Mustangs, Just love catching the newer cars at stop lights and showing my tail lights from a 35 year old Buick !!!

My older sister dated a guy whose parents bought him a 69 GS Stage1 for high school graduation. Was the TH400 and it ran great. Even better when he had the dealer install 4:33 gears about a month after he got it. Surprised most GTO's and 396 Chevelles. Thank you for showing a beautiful Buick that alot of people may have forgotten when they think of GM muscle.

4.33 gears would be fun for stoplight racing back then, but sure would not have been much fun on the highway! 60 mph would be 4500 RPM or so....

I just found you channel in my feed. I like this ‘69 GS. I remember my ‘68 GS. It was a red HT. Before I bought it, the guy who owned it had blown up the 400. He was the son of a Buick dealer and his father replaced it with the 430, Buick was using for the Riviera. It was bolted to a 4-Speed. I had to eventually replace the Rochester 4bbl with a different carb because of bogging and a hesitation. Otherwise, it was a nice clean reliable car. It would have definitely given my ‘71 GTO with the 455HO a run for the money.

The hood was SO much cooler on the 69 GS vs. the 68 GS. Really cool car - in the 80s I spent some time in a 69 GS 400 convertible my brother owned.

I had a 1969 GS400 with automatic in the early '80s. With nothing more than a K&N air filter it ran consistent low 14's. The best run ever was 13.9 seconds

I worked armed security at Buick City in Flint, Michigan after it closed down. It was so creepy going on the plants. Tools were still out on the tables. People had personal items still in lockers. It looked like everybody was at work one day and they all disappeared. Buick City is all torn down now. It’s miles of wasteland now. I also worked the old Pontiac plants in Pontiac, Michigan. That was a creepy one too. Especially at night.

That is the most elegant looking Basic A body made, rivaling the A Specials, the Grand Prix and Monte Carlo.
I'd lose the GT rocker stripe as the car's body lines tell a different, better, story. The car begs me for some larger back rubber and louder mufflers...
Those gold-ish dark beiges of the late '60s were pretty decent under a black vinyl top, giving the cars a somewhat stately look.

    • @musclecarcampy9922

Buick made some central-pillar-less, --NOT GS --4-dr hardtops. Even those looked Awesome! Can you imagine a "GS" , Stage-two, [--full race ], 400-430-455-Auto/tremec 5-spd, in a one-off-of-one, Custom 4dr-hardtop Skylark?

    • @buixrule

That rocker stripe was a 68 GS option. I also have a 69 GS400 but I pulled the 400 and installed a nicely refreshed 70 455 Buick motor. Been in there almost 14 years now and I have beaten the snot out of it and it continues to not let me down. It dyno'd at 430 hp and 530 lb ft. With 3.08 highway gears and radials my best time is 12.90 at 108.45 in the quarter mile.

this car has no positraction axle! Absolutely necessary with a GS 400. I like the looks of the ‘66 & ‘70 GS intermediates but not the ‘68&’69’s with those swoopy lines. Keep it up Campy.

@@musclecarcampy9922 It's not on the option list. IF it was installed afterwards, then it's faulty. Posi works or it doesn't. This one doesn't.
But even though I never liked the styling of the 68-69 GM A body cars, this is a fine example. To bad it got caught out in the rain. Though I guess being in Florida, it's a normal occurrence every day for 6 months of the year.

My GS that you viwed does have a posi rear. I was surprised that it didn't kick in. Someone told me that there is a friction modifier that must have broken down chemically. My car is a documented 68,000 mile car. The only mechanicals that I've done are a Water pump, Timing chain, Petronix ignition and an aluminized exhaust system. I was just as disappointed as you were. Thanks mike
