    Some advice from some one who makes these bracelets if you want one solid paracord around 7 to 8 ft long get the bracelets that are just one solid color they may not look as nice but you wont get two pieces of chord bonded together rather one solid paracord which i think would be better for survival purposes

    I think it's funny that everybody makes and buys these bracelets. Why not a belt? It's over 3 feet long so you can get more stuff inside, and have a ton more cordage. Using a trilobite knot, it's flat and comfortable, although a little thicker than a normal belt. I always have a belt on in the field anyway so why not? I also wear a pack when out for more than an hour, so I just throw 100 feet in with my other gear and lunch. These things are cool and useful but there are better options, when you have a "plan".

    • @rayking3466

      girafmad In any survival situation where I might need it, I would have a belt on. I wear a belt everywhere and a lot of the activities I participate in, work, archery etc. a bracelet gets in the way or is dangerous and I wouldn't wear it anyway. You missed the point. I didn't say a bracelet is useless. I asked, "Why not a belt?" and gave a couple arguments to support my point. Now, here's a question for you.... What possible situation could arise while you are sleeping, short of a nuclear attack, that would put you in an actual, for real, survival situation, where you didn't have time to even put on your pants? And if it should arise, would ten feet of paracord really be that big of a deal? What about the 100+ ft. in a belt?

    • @dday2086

      I have made adjustable belts, bedrolls (the bed roll had nearly 500ft of quick deploy cord), rifle slings and so much more for a 100ft on a quick release it takes about 15-20 min to make and deploys in as quick as you can yank on it....

    • @RjLevesque
      @RjLevesque 4 роки тому +2

      Making belts with paracord is not very practical to say the least. Which is why I never wasted time making them. @Ray - The bracelet does exactly what it is meant to do, a small emergency bundle of cord, nothing more. If I want more I will carry an EDC survival kit. Paracord's strength relies in it's ability to stretch before breaking. A 30 inch belt will very quickly become a 40 inch belt. 550 paracord can actually take up to around 800 pounds of stress because it can stretch, 550 pounds before it's integrity is compromised.

      @girafmad. First of all 😂😂😂
      Secondly, even in ur emergency within survival a parachord bracelet was useless.
      The poster of this comment is 100% correct, a bracelet is useless. He didn't say that but I am saying it, they are gimmicks and they are useless, purchased by idiots.
      The poster is right about, 'having a plan' and also that nobody on planet earth wakes up from their sleep needing a parachord bracelet - it's just absurd.
      Whoever wears one of those bracelts 24/7 and 'just in case' is a complete moron, and a moron with a greasy and dirty bit of string around their wrist.
      Sure, if I found myself in the middle of the Amazon jungle then... What are the chances I'm gonna wake up in the middle of the jungle !!! None. Maybe I should I wear a bracelet on plane flights then ? Ffs.
      They are ridiculous.
      If u r going into the wilderness & u wanna carry summat to help then carry a spare compass & wear a small bullet lighter around ur neck - u will be unlost before u need a bit of rope to save ur ass. Ffs.

    Note also that there's a style of bracelet called Blaze Bar that, once the fastening is removed, only needs one sharp tug to unravel completely. Much easier to use than the more common Solomon Bar.

    Depending on the size of the bracelet and style of the weave/knot, you can get much more into a bracelet. The ones I usually make have about 18 to 20 feet.

    Good video. I make my own. I use the basic cobra weave like the the one you showed in the video, but I do another weave over that. So basically a double cobra weave if thats what you wanna call it, but it gives me way more cordage and I can make those way cheaper than buying them. Also, you can use different colors, one over the other and not have to join them, no joints or weak spots. I buy the paracord from Hobby Lobby at $9/100ft. Made in the USA!

    If thickness isn't an issue the you can always pull out the inner strands and tie together to extend the length of it. If you have 7 strands, that's up to 7x times the length.

    Make your own. At it's core, you bundle some cordage a couple of time and weave around it. It becomes thicker but you can get a lot of extra length out of it that way.
    So mine is over 15 feet when unraveled and because I make it myself, there is less of a reservation to take it apart if you need to cordage.

    Like most survival equipment it is best is you make your own. There is a video on making a quick deploy paracord bracelet, and I think it uses around 14-15 feet of paracord. It can also be undone in under 1 min.

      A lot of the commenters on here believe that a paracord bracelet is just a useless toy.
      When it comes to buying one, and thinking it is a complete survival kit, you would probably be right. Especially when you have the two color paracord bracelets.
      However, there are several reasons why making your own paracord bracelet, according to your own specifications is a good idea.
      1. If you are making your own paracord bracelet, according to what you think you will need, then you are thinking about survival needs from the very beginning. Having this thought process alone is going to go a long ways to keep you from getting into a survival situation in the first place.
      2. Almost everyone that is complaining about a paracord bracelet being useless seems to forget that the seven strands inside the paracord bracelet are all 35 lb test, and the outer sheath is 300 lb test. Just to keep the math simple, if you have a 10 ft piece of cord, then you have 70 ft of 35 lb cord. It's just a lack of imagination that says that this is not a useful option.
      3. In the Paracord bracelets I make, I incorporate a compass, a whistle, a ferocerium rod, and a striker. In some of them I have included paracord fire cord, by getting a six or seven inch length, cutting the strands, and replacing them with four or five strands of the fire cord itself, for tinder. It is not much, but it is a lot better than nothing. I'm thinking of a way of incorporating a small piece of fatwood (natural fatwood, not store-bought) that would be another source of tinder..
      4. I also make a small package of fish hooks and place it within the bracelet. Just the strands alone will make strong fish line, but in some of bracelets I have made I also incorporate real fishing line by wrapping it around the core of the bracelet. I've actually used this type of survival fishing kit, and it works very well..
      So with the Paracord bracelets I make I have a chance to;
      1. Getting a fire started which can be used for warmth, cooking, making water potable, tool making, and signaling.
      2. I have a simple compass which is great for navigation. There are many many better compasses, but if you get separated from your gear you still have something to use. There are also several ways of using the sun to get accurate directions.
      3. With a whistle, you have a method of signaling people that will carry further than your voice, and a lot longer.
      4. The fishing hooks can be used for fishing, trapping, and sewing.
      5. Of course the 70 ft of 35 lb cordage is good for a great many things. And while the 10-ft of the outer sheath may not sound like a lot, it is still very useful.
      My point being, is if you use a little imagination and some intelligence, you can make something far more useful than just a toy.

    Simple macrame tying pattern. Used to make bracelets and anklets using the same knot for all my girlfriend's when I was in middle school and highschool. I should start making them if you paid 5$ from a store for one. You can get like 100ft of cord and the clips for less than 20$

    Many paracord bracelets can turned in to "fast deploy" bracelets in a survival situation by breaking off the correct buckle. The style of bracelets this works on are ones that have a doubled back core. To find out if your bracelet is right style is fairly easy, one buckle will have a cows hitch through it to secure it, the other will have two loops through the buckle. The buckle you break to get the cord out is the one on the end with the loops, then simply grab the outside of the bracelet and pull on the other buckle to pull the core of the bracelet back out. Some untangling may be required for bracelets with a very complex weave but that process is still easier than trying to untie the whole thing, and it's better than cutting it.
    Yes it destroys the buckle and you wont really be able to make it into a bracelet again, but if it's for the sake of survival, who cares? I find the cordage to be far more useful than a cheap plastic buckle.
    All of that being said, you could just buy / make your own that is intended for fast deployment and avoid all the rigmarole involved in this.

    • @GordieGii
      @GordieGii 8 років тому

      I'm pretty sure that with a little thought or research one could come up with a knot that would allow a quick deploy without breaking the buckle.

      There are plenty of youtube videos for quick deploy paracords that don't even need a buckle. You sling them around your wrist and tighten it. The paracord shown in this video is very much a fashion item. Even worse that it needs to be cut to deploy. Never mind that it takes forever to undo.

  • @mjolson2124
    @mjolson2124 7 років тому +5

    the "cobra" style (what you had) is more cosmetic than practical. granted, you do get useful cord out of it or can contain some useful gear within it. what you want is a quick unravel type with a shackle and not a buckle. i enjoy making 550 cord bracelets (as a hobby) and from experience, about 90% are just for show.

    • @midknight3350
      @midknight3350 5 років тому

      Well, a quick deploy bracelet is made for when you need paracord NOW! An example when someone is bleeding and need a tourniquet or have a broken bone that needs to be stabilized with the cord and 2 sticks. A bracelet that uses a buckle is made for when you have a campsite picked out and have time to pick apart your bracelet in case you, for some reason, did not bring a bundle of it with you.

    yup, the bracelets my kids and i make can give you roughly 22-25ft of paracord. standard king cobra knot using 1 single piece of cord. takes about 3-4 minutes to undo the whole thing. also a good idea to put a cable saw in between your 1st and second layers of the k-cobra knot.

      Stanley Glockett Yeah, I think it's funny that some people will spend up to $20 on a pre-made bracelet, when it costs $10-15 for a little more than 30m (100 feet), which can get you around 10 bracelets. Smart people could make it into a business and make a decent amount of money. Assuming a price at the low-mid range of what I see online (let's say $10), you could be making a profit of $90/100 feet. At that same price, a 300m (1000 foot) spool that costs about $100 could potentially bring in $1000

    Not all paracord bracelets are truly survival bracelets. Those with two or more colors fused together are more for fashion, though the seperate pieces can be used in a survival situation. A true survival bracelet should contain one piece of10 or more feet of solid paracord. Added to that, the better ones have other items, such as fire starters, compasses (not top quality, but better than nothing) and even fishing kits and razor blades.
    The bracelet shown in the video is more of a fashion item than a real piece of survival gear.

    I made my own double cobra weave survival baldric sling. With military snap hooks on each side (1.5”) in width inside (the guts) I used Bank Line, fishing line with hooks, waxed jute twine. A 3/4 ounce slip sinker on each end. Then double weaved 2 cobra weaves one on top the other over everything. You cant see the guts inside at all. The whole length not including the hooks is 46”. The first paracord was milspec 550 olive drab. The second weave over was 3 Vikings camo mil spec 750 lb. Needless to say its alot of back up cordage. But it looks good, feels good and I have all the Cs covered in small pouches on it. The way it lays accross my chest I can easily cary my glock 43x. And anchor it at the bottom to my belt if I want. Its comfortable enough that I can sleep with it on. I’ve been told by many it looks BAD Axx.. point I am trying to make is that to make your own. Cause it would cost alot of $$ for the time I put into mine. Plus no one cares more about the quality of what you put in it than yourself.

I just wish they made a buckle that ditched the whistle and replaced it with a compartment that had a Tinder-Quik tab in it. (that way I could have a whistle/ferro rod on one wrist and a ferro rod/tinder-quik on the other wrist plus a sizable quantity of paracord)

    I made one of these using a "millipede knot" and I have 3 Meters of 550 paracord in it.
    The Millipede know is easy to unravel. Just lift the loop over the buckle and pull and it comes undone.
    To see what a millipede knot is just search for it here on UA-cam.

    I personally wear 2 paracord.... bits of jewelry on my wrists. The one on my right is 24 feet of Titan Survivorcord and I can quickly deploy it. My left is a Gshock watch with a paracord watch band. On my watch band, I have a wazoo firestorm buckle, clamshell compass, and a P-51 can opener. I like to think of it as a pretty basic tool kit and the other one just quality cordage.
    I don't expect to ever find myself in a situation where I need these to survive. I just like to make some functional stuff.

    Yeah the paracord bracelets I make tuck in without burns and uses one solid strand so you just untied it and have no breaks in length. I'll only burn ends on my resizable bracelets that end with a diamond knot and the only burn is the end of the knot

    You can get quite a bit more cord around your wrist if you make your own. Some of the more intricate weaves will give your 2' of cord for every inch of completed bracelet.

    Quick deploy braids or nothing.
    Make your own with the best cord you can get like Titan Survivorcord with extra lines inside (fishing, brass wire, waxed jute) and braid a single color unbroken. There are designs that can easily get you around 14 to 16 ft, which is nothing to scoff at.

    Don't forget a real common use is in water rescue. The Paracord bracelet gives a non-slip piece of equipment to hold onto when pulling a person back into a raft. Everyone that my daughter rafts with wares one on each wrist. Much easier to grab ahold of someone to pull them in while wearing these.

    The ones i make are about 104" about 2.60m that amounts to an 8" inch wrist all 1 piece and they are easier to take apart like you did focus on 1 strand the rest just unravels I'm not one for the multicolored as i prefer mine to go unnoticed stealth black and coyote i could even add more as mine are kinda thin maybe just lash a cobra weave over the top

    It's good to get a single color for a survival paracord bracelet if it is dual color it's just for show. One strand of paracord can support 550 pounds if not burnt together, plastic can snap plus when he cut it he made it into 2 pieces instead of the one it would have been. When cutting make sure not to cut the two cords holding the ends it but cut the ends themselves. There are better bracelets for survival and quicker ones to take apart just search quick deploy paracord bracelets.

  • @g.rodriguez7445
    @g.rodriguez7445 6 років тому

    You are looking at the paracord as a unit. Assume you have a complete length of 40 inches. If you separate the seven stands out (7 x 40= 280 inches) + Outer hust/shell 40in = 320 inches of total cordage length ~approximately...Eh, might as well buy a 50ft bundle for half the cost.

    I don't know if you did cut it wrong at the start and ruined the bracelet but the peace you had in the start with the 2 colors melted together is a secondary method that are a bit more easy to do.. And I don't think a company like that would do it in that stupid way :P normaly its just one long rope with one melting point in the middle. are you sure you didnt destroy the whole thing in the beginning?

    1:08 -> 1:16 This would suggest, this bracelet at least, is useless for any sort of rapid deploy.
    1:35 -> 2:03 Needing to fade to black to unravel a clear sign this type is only good if one needs cord "soon" not "now"
    2:08 -> 3:00 90 inches, in smaller sections, useful for some tasks woefully inept for others, have a think about what you are going to want that cord to do, clearly this is not going to enable you to build a raft or other cord hungry task. but may be useful for some of the mentioned tasks.
    3:03 -> 3:16 Actually this bracelet is pretty cool, every time this dude "measures" it the cord gets longer..
    3:17 -> 3:38 The Advertisement is real.
    End of the Day Paracord bracelets are probably more gimmick and fashion item than truly useful item, that being said 30 inches of cord is 30 inches of cord if you need it and don't have it. If you want a decent length of cord learn to tie some basic knots such as the noose knot which can store much more cord in a single length.

    The ones I make generally have over 12 feet of line. And that is a simple fishtail set up, very quick and easy to make. Also, you can remove the core and the outside shell can still be used to tie things as long as strength is not needed. The smaller core strands can be used for snares and traps. People, don't buy these things. Make your own, you can even make them without buckles, leave a loop and button knot. It's not hard, and there are more than a few vids on how to make them.

    use one of a single color it will give you one piece 8 to 12 feet long depending on wrist length. there are hundreds of uses for paracord as a whole and it's components. 7 strand core can be pulled out and used as fishing nine or fine snares for example or emergency stitches, thread for clothing repair etc. paracord can tie ligs for rafts, with a tarp can make hamock or tent

    Hey Tim, two, perhaps stupid questions: Is a paracord bracelet intended to come off over your hand without unclasping it? I got a Friendly Swede with w metal buckle, that will not. If it get caught on anything, I'm loosing a hand. Second, why all the huge, quick open knives on EDCs. Are these primarily intented for weapons/protection? Seems like they must be, otherwise why not carry something like a SAK? Enjoy your vids, put together my pack for the car yesterday, with advice from your video on this. Blessings. r

    • @EverydayTacticalVids
      @EverydayTacticalVids  10 років тому

      Fair questions. I'm sure some paracord bracelets are intended to slip-on/slip-off, but most are made to just be unclasped for removal. As for SAK - agreed - they can be a great EDC, as are Leatherman tools. For me, I use my knife pretty aggressively and want something that can hold up and also that can lock-up. Most SAKs I know don't lock up, so that's a danger if you use it aggressively. I had a buddy who carried a Spyderco blade as an EDC and I always told him it was a waste...until I started to carry a blade...and used it all the time. SAK vs. Folder - all about use and lifestyle, but I don't generally look at mine as primarly about self-defense.

    in general is best buy your own 550 7 strands paracord in bulk about 100ft for less than $10 and make your own bracelets with as much as length as you might need and paracords belts to carry even more if you need to be prepared... when you buy them made each little bracelet have about 7ft aprox only and in 3ft pieces like in this video ,maybe, on top of the high cost of each ... so even the strands would be in small pieces too if you need for fishing or tying with knots all over the line... and you might learn few new things along the way.... you will never know what you have until it gets deployed and it might just not be what you expected... made in china can be a clue.
