OIl on drilling and tapping is very important. And anti-seize on the new glow plug is very important too

Thanks for making the process clear - I gather that a major complaint of these kits in general is a lack of any clear instructions! I followed you well until 3:10. It's not clear what that gold coloured bit is removing... why is a thread tap needed afterwards? Surely there's been no material taken out of the head itself? So what is being re-threaded?
I'd like to better understand the anatomy of a glow plug, so that I can fully understand exactly what these different stages represent. There's no doubt at all that you successfully remove the plug! Seriously considering doing this myself but feel the risks of doing major damage hold me back.

The gold coloured drill bit is a stepped bit with 2 sizes, the smaller part of the drill bit is drilling into the body of the glow plug (the smooth part of the glow plug) and the bigger part Is drilling out the top part of the glow plug (the part with the treads on it) for example if the glow plug tread is m10 the top part of the drill bit is m9 so it is drilling out the glow plug but leaving the pitch of the tread in the head and after a m10 Tap is used to remove the final part of the treads, the other tap is tapping the body of the glow plug so that the shaft can be screwed in to extract the last part of the glow plug,
This process is tricky and requires some practice, I would recommend practicing on a old cylinder head 1st

@@RyansAutomotiveTV Thank you! Hugely informative and helpful. And yes, I think err... I should practice a bit first! Since my engine has uses a common rail system, it starts okay on three. I feel no huge urgency to remove this fourth, despite other problems may occur later as a result. But better those than mess up the cylinder head!
Nevertheless many thanks for being so helpful :)

It cant slip into the head as we are drilling into the body of the glow plug and the body of the glow plug is pulled out last

Hi we did not make this video, it is the manufacture Govoni that made the video, so i dont know why they did not use drilling or tapping fluids, but i would recommend using them
I think they may have not used in the video to keep it clean and easier to see whats going on

  • @GdaySport

Easy when engine is out. Try using these tools when your blow plugs are at the back of a transverse engine up against the firewall lol

    • @RyansAutomotiveTV
      @RyansAutomotiveTV  Рік тому

Would be impossible to do a video showing how the kit works with the engine in the car
And we have used this kit hundreds of times in our own workshop and have done cars with transverse engines many times just need to use a right angle drill
Examples are 1.6 HDI fitted to many PSA vehicles we have done loads with out any issues in the car

@@RyansAutomotiveTV That's weird:- I watched your video because I need to change the glow plugs on my 1.6HDI C5! Still don't fancy having a go myself so will let someone with a bit more flexibility have a go (yes chickened out).

Put the engine out of the truck and I will get it out too. Doing it when there is no room is the 'Master' knowledge. I laugh at these videos like re-tapping a glow plug hole when the engine is on a stand. REALLY?

    A prayer for joy.
God, thank You for giving me constant access to Your presence. Because You are always with me, I can experience true joy at all times. Although the joy You give isn’t based on my circumstances, I don’t always live a life marked by joy. Too often, instead of trusting You, I let my problems dictate my reactions. Please forgive me! Fill me with Your joy and peace, so that by the power of Your Holy Spirit, I may abound in hope at all times. Help me to live a life marked by undefeatable joy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
