VVC is unbelievably good and I sincerely hope that it gets more adopted in the coming years especially specifically for blurays, it's my dream to get 8K releases of films like Oppenheimer, especially considering the IMAX 15/70 film has a digital equivalent of 18K
There are staggeringly few programs that implement VVC even years after it's release. I'm interested in using it for my videos as well, because it might have genuine advantages over HEVC, at least on low-mid bitrates.
But it's proprietary/patent encumbered... that is an immediate no-go. Even free software projects with many users will need to pay 5 cents per download which is absurd
I just want H266/VVC built into Handbrake and VLC 😪. And why is Apple so late with this, they recently added harware decoding of AV1 into all their silicon (not even encoding), but where is the hardware decoding and encoding for VVC 🤷♂️. If I remember correctly, they were the ones that pushed HEVC/H265 so much. Seems like Intel will be the first one this time with their next generation silicon releasing soon, those CPU’s will have hardware support for H266/VVC.

Me too!

Would be awsome to see more. This would be great for compacting an archive of Old 264 vids.
Go for it. VVC

yes AV1 all day. media codec patents are lame

I know! I’m hoping Apple unveils VVC decoding and encoding built into their silicon at the Apple Keynote in September.
Xe2 will only have decode for VVC. no encode unfortunately
It is now included in"Shutter Encoder", way better than Handbrake ;)
I've done a few encodes using Shutter Encoder. It's a great app! I'll be making a video on it soon!
