    Awesome! Thanks for the great review and thorough demonstration! Nice use of a vertical mount as well. We've been meaning to talk more about mounting the unit in a vise, so it was nice to see you mention that aspect. We're glad it went to someone who will make good use of it and give it a good home. We hope it gives you years of sharp mower blades!

    Good video, clever machine, but just a another tool contraption in my shop. I use a grinder with a flapper disc as well and just balance it with on a nail until its level. I also grind outside in a carport because that grinding dust just gets everywhere in every crack and cranny and is difficult to clean up.

    Hands down, your instructional video showing the AAS in operation is the best on UA-cam. For the longest time I have been using an angle grinder locked in a vise, and tho it works, nothing beats this jig for a perfect angle and edge each and every time. I like your idea of a fold up table. This is a consideration along with me fabricating a mobile quad pod stand with locking wheels so I can do the work outside. I'm ordering mine this spring before mowing season starts. I have 4 sets of blades I'm using through the week. I have a Country Clipper Challenger with the flip out deck and it allows me to change blades quite often when I'm out and about on my daily mowing runs.

    • @ScoutLawnCare
      @ScoutLawnCare  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the kind words! You are going to love this jig! Once you get it set up and do a blade or two, it's so simple to get consistent, awesome edges. Thanks for watching!

      @@ScoutLawnCare you're welcome! I should have said your video was the best hands down along with the gentleman who does the videos for his company. Gotta give kudos to the man behind this product! Btw, I should have also said the blades locked in the vice rather than the angle grinder.

    Those look like john deere 54" blades for the 54c deck. I think the factory edge angle is more close to 35 degrees though; because there is a very slight twist to them when you lay them down on a flat surface. Nice job. I can't wait to get my sharpener I ordered today.

    • @ScoutLawnCare
      @ScoutLawnCare  4 роки тому

      Correct, and good eye! I think I actually have to set the sharpener at 40 degrees, maybe even 45 degrees, to match the factory grind on those Deere blades. Thanks for watching!

    Is going back and forth a good idea or should you be just being going one direction toward the end of the blade? Just curious about how many passes it takes bc that seemed like the same amount I’d have to do already

    • @ScoutLawnCare
      @ScoutLawnCare  Рік тому

      Well, it just just depends on how far the edge is rounded off. I've done blades with only a few passes, and recently sharpened blades from a used commercial mower, that i made enough passes, to go through almost 3 flapper wheels. And no, going back and forth, is no different than going on one direction, all long as you are taking material off evenly, and as needed.

    Best sharpener ever! Get you a ryobi cordless grinder and leave it in the trailer. You can mount this thing anywhere! The wall of the trailer the ramp door or you could even use a clamp and stick it to the wheel well of the trailer and sharpen while out if you hit a nice rock or something! I usually screw it down on the ramp and it only takes about 5 minutes to do two pushers and a stander. Even got the extra attachment for Honda blades! Save yourself the aggravation and money (cause the mag 8000 or similar are upwards of 800 or better) and trying to do by hand is a mess!

  • @fhmchris6553
    @fhmchris6553 4 роки тому +5

    I hope you use a level on that portable bench. no leveling tool will help if the surface itself is also unbalanced. Plus it's recommended to start towards the center of the blade and work your way out, not inward. nice setup with that bench though. I use magnets to clean up shavings

    • @ScoutLawnCare
      @ScoutLawnCare  4 роки тому

      Great point. I usually put the bench on my driveway, which is level, when balancing. I wish I would have mentioned that on the video.

    • @davidhall3024
      @davidhall3024 4 роки тому +3

      You don't need to level the bench, it's a self contained unit, it will sharpen at what ever angle you set it for. If you mount it on a bench that is out of level you would attach mount to the out of level bench and the vice and the grinder arm will all be out of level the same amount.

    • @ScoutLawnCare
      @ScoutLawnCare  4 роки тому

      I've never used mulching blades, honestly. I'm guessing, as long as you're just sharpening the front edge like a normal blade and not worrying about the back teeth, it would be fine. Thanks for watching!

      Scout Lawn Care works great using 80 grit flap wheel with a Gator mulching blade. But you want to use 35 instead of standard 30 degree angle.

    • @ScoutLawnCare
      @ScoutLawnCare  4 роки тому

      @@miles267 Yep, I find 35 and sometimes 40 degrees, matches factory edges on some blades for sure! Just do a trial grind, and adust to match the factory grind.

    • @ScoutLawnCare
      @ScoutLawnCare  4 роки тому

      I think it's right at 21". It's low, and if I were sharpening more than, say, 6 blades in one session, I'd want it mounted to something taller. But, this setup is super portable, and folds up, to hang on the wall.

      Rural King. www.ruralking.com/portable-aluminum-wrk-platform
      I think harbor freight and Home Depot may sell one also. Keep in mind, this bench is very low, and I wouldn't want to sharpen blades daily with this, but it's great for occasional sharpening that you can bring outside easily.

    Like The Video! But $300 Of Equipment VS $20 For New Blades 🤔

    • @ScoutLawnCare
      @ScoutLawnCare  4 роки тому +8

      Blade replacements (3 per mower) are over $50, per mower, generally. You can sharpen a set of blades many times. This pays for itself fairly quickly. Plus, I even sharpen new blades before I use them. New blades aren't usually sharp enough for my liking, especially with paint or powder coat on them. Some commercial blade sharpeners are $700-$800, maybe more. It all depends on your sharpening needs and volume, to determine if a sharpening system is right for you. Thanks for watching!

    How tall does that bench stand

    • @ScoutLawnCare
      @ScoutLawnCare  4 роки тому

      Only about 22" or so. It's fine for 2 or three blades at a time, but if I was going to sharpen for 30 minutes or more, I'd want something taller. The added height of the jig, added to the platform, makes it useable and portable.
