    Thank you so much for the amazingly clear and detailed pattern and video. I just finished this dress for my granddaughter and it’s beautiful. I’m 52 years old and this is the first garment I’ve ever sewn since learning to sew a couple of months ago! I’m so proud of myself right now!

      That is so encouraging! As a new sewer, myself, I am concerned how long this is going to take! How long did it take you?

    • @BethsMom

      If I recall, between kids, chores, life etc it took me two days but I think maybe 5 or 6 hours all together.

    I love this pattern.❤️ brought it yesterday and made a size 6 yrs,today I'm making a size 7,just for the extra room.
    I did a little trick my mum taught me with the elastic cord and that is to tape the loop together before you insert it in between the fabric pieces as this keeps the loop together, works a treat.
    Still a newbie after 20 plus years of sewing so watched this video over and over. I nailed it. 😁

    • @katielove9932
      @katielove9932 4 роки тому

      Taping the cord can make the needle sticky if it goes through it. The best way to hold the cord together is to take a stitch or two through it to secure it. That way, the needle doesn't get sticky and jam-up.

    Hello from Pflugerville! :D I can't tell you how much I appreciate this tutorial. I was following a pattern yesterday that did an extremely poor job of explaining the back of the dress slit and cord concept. I spent hours trying to understand what they were saying, and eventually just gave up. This tutorial made COMPLETE sense, and I thank you so much for it! Happy sewing. :)

    Your easy, neat dress lining INSPIRED me. Took pic of a similar retail 24mo. dress, while holding a slide rule. Having shortened my dear friend's long sundress to above the knee, she's being surprised
    with that toddler A-line, with enough outside scrap material left, for her newborn baby granddaughter. Used a Co-ording solid, lining fabric. Thanks :-}

    Thank you sooo much for your clear pattern. I have never bought before a pattern which can fit for a beginner like yours. You really know how to make things simple. I highly recommend this pattern to anyone regardless of their sewing skill. The only thing which I really would like the seam allowance instead of 3/8, 4/8 would give more room and comfort to sew with less error.
    Thank you again,

    SHORTCUT ALERT: Super cute dress. Love the way you do the hem, that's my favourite method. I do a lot of bulk sewing for charities so have developed tons of shortcuts. Rather than do all that clipping and folding under for armholes, I just leave the shoulder seams open for turning then do them last. Fold a little hem under front shoulder and put back should into the "tube". That way I can sew up the armholes while inside out flat with a 1/4" seam so there's no need for clipping or turning under. I also make the neck larger so there's no need for closure. Am I lazy or what? :)

    Hi Dana,
    I found your video by accident and have fallen in love with your tutorials. I love how detailed and precise you are in showing how to sew and the little tips that are a great help. I made a simple, elastic waist skirt with pockets for a friend and it turned out so well that she couldn't believe that I had made it. It is because I did everything exactly as you had shown in the video. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of just the skirt. Will have to edit the picture where she has it on, so that it doesn't show her face, before I post it.
    I am planning on making this dress for a friend's daughter. I love it, because I don't have her exact measurements, so I was looking for a dress that didn't fit to the bodice and this is a perfect one. Love the tip for the sleeves.
    Thank you for the wonderful ideas and videos!

    How cute is that?!! There is a way to sew the armholes from the inside when you’re doing the neckline. Like sewing a lining in a vest. Same process. I’m thinking if I make one out of a knit fabric, eliminate the lining and add contrasting bias around the neck and armholes to finish it off. Thanks for sharing.

      Yes, it can be a little tricky....you have a to leave a little room at the top of the side seams. It's hard to decide which method is going to be easiest to explain to others in a pattern and show others. But if another method works for you, go for it!

    I know nothing about nothing! As in I decided yesterday I want to learn how to sew and THIS is the first video I am watching for beginners hahaha. So my question about prewashing is when do you prewash, when you buy it, after you cut the main piece or after it is sewn? Edit: Though this is obviously advanced beginners, I'm excited about future me making this for my daughters. Thank you for this detailed fabulous video.
