This was really helpful. Preparing for my moot trial and I'm now armed with all the arsenals I need. Thanks so much. Will definitely come back to testify of the outcome 😊😊😊
Ive spent the the last 5 years an over 100k in court with my X as shes tired to get custody of our now 8 year old daughter, her new boyfriend has way more $ than me to , but after a little over 5 years and 2 separate custody attempts an my 4 shity lawyers, your videos an me as my childs lawyer an by the way im not an attorney, im just not the pos drug addict an abusive parent , that constantly gets caught in lies an disobeys every state guideline an court order ! Your awsome man an ive watched an read so much over the years an honesty i feel like you have helped me more than 4 lawyers an over 100k spent ! How much do i owe you bro ? LoL cause your worth every dime !
I find it weird now at the age if 47 i look back and think on hiw i always wanted to be a law man law man as in police officer and for many different rrasons and i dont think i KNOW i would have made a fine officer but the more i look back on my past i use to love watching trials on tv but i alwsys had a dislike for attorneys and being honest with my self i think that seed was planted in my head. Not saying all attorneys are bad people but many defense lawyers are scum but now in hindsight i think being a trial lawyer or at least a good one is all about social engineering. The money is there i just always questioned if i could look my self in the mirror each morning knowing i did an excellent job but at the same time put a bad person back out on the street
How do you know they are a bad person? You don’t. And you’re an American which means they are innocent until proven guilty. It’s sad that police are now enemies of the community, prosecutors and judges are nerds who never experienced life.
Thanks for this video. I have to write an opening statement for class, and this is very helpful. I do have one question though: What if I am not a personable or likable person? Also wouldn't it be in poor taste to make a joke if the case is about a very horrible crime, like murder and/or rape?
If you're not a personable or likable person, you shouldn't be a trial lawyer. Be a different kind of lawyer. There are lots of kinds that don't speak in court.
I love your channel! I wish your examples were a little more concrete (perhaps even a snippet of something you actually used in a past trial), but that's just me asking (read: begging) that you take your videos from a 10 out of 10 to an 11 out of 10. 🤣
2 Minutes?!? Where I practice, there is no actual limit on opening statement. However, the Court will give a side-eye when opening statement goes beyond 15-20 minutes unless it is a capital case.
I’m pro se in a civil breach of contract with my son. My son with drug addiction in and out of rehab and jail sold property and didn’t pay me back but, this woman he dated for 6mos had him open a joint bank account moved the money closing the acct and my son had no access. He bought and paid cash on a vehicle this woman has possession of. My son placed me on as a security interest holder in order to pay his debt because he had no access to his money. Six months later he signed an notarized affidavit stating he owed me money on the sell of his property. I was his Power of atty two times while in rehab. How can I open with that mess. Do I lay that foundation or do I save it when I put myself on the stand? Thank you KV
@@hockeyslade Do what you think is best. My philosophy is that if I can take a jury through the full range of emotions, then I've been able to connect with them on a deeper level.

I am in a mock trial this was a super helpful video! thank you.
Glad it could help!
I am also in a mock trail, is your CC?
Me too! Hopefully it’ll help me as well!
In your guys’s mock trials, could the barristers bring notes to read or is it all memory based
@@craftinghusky8701 same, Tatum Zillias case?
Exactly a month ago, I’ve had my first opening statement at a trial by jury which lasted for 4 days. I remember watching this video the night before!
I hope it went well!
Did it go well?
It went well! I won it with 7 votes in favor and 2 votes against. It’s been one of the most intense experiences I had in my life.
@@martinsmith1678 That's great to hear! Hopefully you were able to take a little time off for yourself after!
What happened ?

How would you do step 5 if you are defense and the prosecution is the state? This video was so helpful!!!
This video was very helpful, I’m competing with opening statement right now. Thank you for the help
Glad it was helpful!
Would this work if it was a trial with no jury and just a judge? Would you just address the judge in the same manner?
Pretty much. You just don't need to spoon feed the judge as much.

Great advice, Thank you, and I apologize for assuming that a young person on U-tube would be full of B.S. Thank you for the Great advice.
It would also be helpful for instruction on bench trials/hearings.

Dont represent yourself
I have my first real trial on Wednesday. I am so pumped! Thanks for the tips.
Would you still apply step 2 or other steps in a sentencing trial with no jury?

Use your brain it's situational dependent obviously.

To suggest making a joke is foolish and detrimental to client.
It's probably even more detrimental if the lawyer can't charm a jury.
