    How do you do it if you point isn't 0,4 rather it is 1,4 then then you can't do it cause you're left with a coefficient with X

    hey man found this really helpful! I'm wondering if it possible to find the point of tangency to the ellipse when all you are given is the gradient of the line? thanks a lot :)

    After you find x and y, you should use the dy/dx formula to find the slopes. Using the two points to find the slopes guarantees that line contains both, but does NOT guarantee the line is tangent to the ellipse. But, calculus does that.

    Thanks man but do you know a method or formula which we can directly(I mean shortcut) use to find tangent equation in 5 mins?

      You're welcome. None that I am aware of for this particular question. Of course other similar simpler questions can be solved much easier and quicker.
