hey man found this really helpful! I'm wondering if it possible to find the point of tangency to the ellipse when all you are given is the gradient of the line? thanks a lot :)
After you find x and y, you should use the dy/dx formula to find the slopes. Using the two points to find the slopes guarantees that line contains both, but does NOT guarantee the line is tangent to the ellipse. But, calculus does that.

It's like that sometimes but it's so satisfying when it works out.
This is very very helpful, Im having a hard time w/ tangent lines intersecting different conics, now I understand it. Thank you!
Great. So glad that I could help.
How do you do it if you point isn't 0,4 rather it is 1,4 then then you can't do it cause you're left with a coefficient with X
thats my problem
Pls help us
The solution is not pretty I will try to make a video for it this weekend.
@@SpellerMathTutorials will you make the video?
Yes, I will make the video.
Very nice explanation
Thanks
Thanks - This helped me greatly. Cheers
Great, I am glad you found it helpful!

Thanks, glad I could help. Sorry, but I don't know about gradients.

Thanks for the comment.
Thanks man but do you know a method or formula which we can directly(I mean shortcut) use to find tangent equation in 5 mins?
You're welcome. None that I am aware of for this particular question. Of course other similar simpler questions can be solved much easier and quicker.
Cara mutissimo obrigado. Valeu mesmo.
Thanks for the feed back.
thanks!
