      @@producerpete The only problem that I have, that my gate is not working. Even if it's closed, the red LED is on, it lets stuff through.
      I bought my dbx 286s in January 2021 and the first weeks it worked. But suddenly when I switched to dual computer streaming setup, for some reason the gate lets stuff through and since then, no matter what I've tried, that still happens.
      I can play around with the ratio and threshold, but even if red, and it never goes green, everything goes through, it only blocks my fans in my computer from being heard. Typing or clicking with my mouse can be heard. Bypass is disabled.
      Shure SM7B -> dbx 286s -> Focusrite Scarlet Solo (only as USB interface) -> computer.

    I've been messing with the new Elgato Wave Link feature, VSTs. I have EQ, Compression but so hard to set them. First I have the echo if I real-time monitor, then the overload of complexity/settings. Sometimes they stop working--a bug. Wave Link fills up my audio sources on Windows with tons of I-know-not-why-I'd-want-this-or-that. All I want are the basics. I was drowning. I watched this video. I grabbed your buoy, got off my couch, and placed an order, getting it Wednesday. For months I've been wondering why something like this didn't exist. I am so looking forward to simplifying my setup! I picked up one of these used and really love the audio. I have a couple questions that pertains to the Expander/Gate. If the ratio is set full left, and the threshold is set full right, the red gate led is on, should I be hearing anything through it when it is not bypassed? I noticed that if I'm using a condenser mic (akg p220) with a whisper or very low voice, I hear distortion while the gate leds are transitioning from red to green, but the audio is clean when I speak louder. I have two of these mics (1 year old) and both do it, but with my mark-II mvm88 which doesn't need phantom and is not nearly as loud, this distortion is not an issue. All other controls are set near 9:00. I only paid $20 for it, so I know I did well, I just have these questions.

    • @producerpete
      @producerpete  3 роки тому

      The more you turn the threshold to the right, the less sound it is letting in and for the ratio, basically the more to the right the quicker it works. For voice I have my ratio set half way and my threshold around -30 as all the way it would be struggling to pick anything up!

    • @RhythmicSensations
      @RhythmicSensations 3 роки тому

      @@producerpete I get this, but if I turn the threshold all the way to the right and leave it there, then start turning the ratio to the left, the further I turn it to the left, the more audio there is that comes through. Nobody seems to be covering this, but the manual did answer this for me, as the ratio is how much of the audio which is being blocked.
      Now for the noise. My Mark-II works great, but when I try to use a condenser mic the noise is horrible. It's fine with loud audio, but as the sound into the mic gets quiet, the noise level goes up. A whisper is filled with static. This was my main concern, and I'm now thinking that the mic is the source of the noise. I borrowed a friend's amazon purchased NEEWER mic and this noise was far worse than the noise I hear from my AKG. I'll be trying another phantom power source before completely settling on this conclusion, but at the moment it is looking this way.

    • @producerpete
      @producerpete  3 роки тому +1

      @@RhythmicSensations Yes I see what you mean now! As for the noise…I would do as you say and try plugging into another phantom source first, but also the higher the compression is set, the more noise is created so I tend to go for a low compression, also try it with the bypass on to make sure it’s none of the effects creating the noise!

    • @RhythmicSensations
      @RhythmicSensations 3 роки тому +1

      @@producerpete thanks Pete, it does seem to be working correctly, my ears are hearing the external noise coming into the mic, mixing with my low voice and resulting in distortion. Now with the Scarlett I don't seem to get any remedy for that noise and the best advice I've seen is to get the USB idefender or a preamp like this. @@brandonjay_gotem I have came across Voicemeter (although this is just for windows) it works ok with a compressor on the virtual mixer, however it definitely doesn’t compare to hardware and the expander/gate, so to get the best quality I’d definitely opt for the dbx!
