A small mistake I think at around 37:30ish mark you mention that mysterio's "The Grand Illusion" card changes his dice to skulls. I think how this works (very weirdly worded tho) is that Mysterio changes the enemies dice to skulls not his own. Fantastic video man and so happy you are covering my favourite faction.
This is the faction I've played at tourneys the most (been playing for a year) and I find your list fascinating. I do agree on Rhino being S, but to me Venom is downgraded to A due to CGR meta but would be in S otherwise. However, Lizard for me is taken almost every game, and it's largely because of neo genetic recombinator, which is one of my favorite TTCs. Under Norman it allows his 7 health to tank longer and either give rhino power or lizard or venom healing options. Kraven has always performed worse than carnage for me, so I was surprised to see him at A! I'll have to give him more table time. Mysterio would be my top of A or just behind Venom personally, he's hit or miss but when he hits he changes games.
I have pulled off Fearful Symmetry once in a casual game. It took Pyro and Mystique pulling ASM in, keeping him there, and setting him on fire, but we got there.
Love Spider-Foes! They are my favorite affliation behind Kingpin CS and perhaps my most played. Really enjoy Green Goblin, but since the new Ock released prefer his leadership more; being able to remove 3 common conditions while gaining power really helps SF characters get their abilities faster. For my SF list, I usually run new Ock with my secures, whereas I use GG for my extracts (i.e. with old Ock for Well Laid Plans). I really wish new Ock could use the WLP ttc and cant wait for the new character coming later this year. P.S. Lizard is the GOAT lol
Carnage is funny, because he’s D-tier until he single-handedly wins you the game. I’ve had a few moments - most notably a three-person Sadistic Glee’d Maximum Carnage that basically ended the game on the spot turn 3. Otherwise he tends to get instantly blasted off the board.
I think Lizard is above Venom for me right now. Cheaper threat and he basically comes stapled to X-ceptional Healing, which gives even greater benefit in splashing a blender like X-23 or Wolverine (or the old Cassandra Nova + Rocket Raccoon + Mysterio combo).
I started playing Spider Foes a few weeks ago in preparation for the new box coming out this month, and I’m definitely enjoying them so far. I love how they all have their own little quirks that may seem weird and disparate on their own, but come together in a surprisingly fun way. I’ve found that Goblin’s leadership is significantly more useful than new Doc Ock, and the sheer number of great tactics cards available makes it really easy to tech out for any given scenario that comes up. So far, Rhino and Venom have been the most clutch, but that’s probably less to do with me and more to do with them just being really good characters haha I have yet to try Kraven out, but I’ll have to give him a go soon. I’d be curious to see how the new additions of Sandman, Electro, Shocker, and Vulture would slot into this list. I’m excited to get to try them all once they come out.
I am a ride or die spider foes player 😁. I love their menagerie of characters and I can't wait for them to get more. I think Kraven needs better action compression to be playable for his frailty in my opinion, at least with the current state of the game. If his spear thrust was a gainer with a pursuit trigger on it he and the kukri had the damage bonus he would be very playable. I wish Mysterio's builder was a gainer. It would be ideal if it worked like Shuri where you roll 6 dice it has a maximum of 1 damage, either keeping the wild advance or make it if it does damage advance. That way there would be decent counter play (aggressive or pay to reduce etc) I love venom but he tends to be too slow and vulnerable in the current meta. If he had a medium move or something like aggressive would do a lot to help him out. These are all pie in the sky dream requests I know and with the new characters coming out I think it will change things up but currently I run very few spider foes in my competitive spider foes rosters

Amazing tier list, excited for the inevitable Doc Ock leadership (probably some time after Shocker, Electro, Sandman, and Vulture come out). Also Carnage, while not very good, can be very fun, and can also tear apart an enemy team if things go your way. I just don't recommend him for competitive
Hey Rich, I'd be really keen to see a video from you about how you would tackle a character like Carnage, and what options within the game currently you can do to mitigate such a glaring weakness like the 5-1-1 statline (leaderships, charcater combos, tactics cards etc.) also what you would do to change him outside of just buffing defenses.
Carnage plays well on a flank. You have to use terrain cleverly to minimise hits. A bodyguard character is probably useful in Spider-foes as Goblin needs one anyway. The biggest problems for Carnage is a) just getting him started off generating power. He can really go crazy once he gets everything online. b) Understanding all the interactions between his kit. There’s some really intricate timings that can come into play.
I do love Spider Foes as it really captures the feeling of controlling a bunch of manic supervillains all with their own weaknesses and strengths. The big issue at the heart of the affiliation is Green Goblin. Once he’s flipped it’s so hard to get back into the game. Just paints an even larger target onto them. Really looking forward to all the new characters coming. Hopefully fill in some of the obvious tech gaps or even just give us that 5 or 2 threat to make roster building less predictable.
I'd personally put kraken down to a c and bump mysterio up bit. But that's probably more personal bias than anything else. Kraven has always fallen flat for me.
That's interesting cause for me it's the opposite. My Mysterio has always been easily ko'ed by opponents whereas my Kraven has taken down higher threat value targets. Maybe we should switch models lol
Been playing Spidey Foes for awhile now I'd agree with most of that. Rhino for me can't do enough he generally gets targeted with conditions. Venom does lots of work and carnage is trash. He prehaps needs 4 physical 2 energy defence 1 mystic would help him. Never played Kraven but will give him ago. And Lizard is useless IMO he sits around no range no power kinda sucks
I will be getting back into it in the new year. Honestly other than a couple of character cards we haven’t had anything that meaningful since October, so the lack of announcements from AMG have made it difficult.
We have Luke's full squad revealed now and I'm sure Vader's soon, would be great to see breakdowns of them like you did for Plo Koon! I've been pretty excited with all the original trilogy content coming.@@RichMidGaming
I don't think The Grand Illusion works like you think it does. When the card says "it" or "its" I believe the card is meaning the enemy's dice, not mysterio's. So there is no drawback to using the card other than the power spent.
