That must be an oldie. I know Avengers have single 60RC in the back but I noticed on this one has singles on the mid chains too. I modified a pair of Vise-Grips to pick up slack on double chains (both Drive and idler chains).
@MrMrtiki I have seen links that have a different style of "hairclip", (no split in one end), and also the links that have tiny little cotter pins holding the plates togeather.
@MrMrtiki Awesome, I jave no idea what a J5 is, but have had lots of fun in the past with Hovercrafts and Coots, lol. Chains on this Argo are Single 60 on the back 2 axles and Double 50 on the front 2 and idlers. My other Conquest is a little older and has tha Double 50 all around.
I have it mounted right of the steering arms, screwed in the top of the polyethylene. It is a RAM mount 1" ball that I also use with a RAM Cupholder and RAM GPS mount for my 76Cx. I can easily move it. I have a few RAM 1" balls.
No problem at all ;-) I use Tsubachi chain, I've had good luck with it so far. I can get about 350 hrs on a set (A little less on the front chains). Chain life really depends on many factors, like load weights, track time, axle extensions, maintenance, operating conditions, ect. I haul alot of heavy loads, and spend a fair bit of time on Supertracks in the winter, so 350hrs is not bad for me.
2004 Conquest, it has single 60 on the back 2 axles, double 50 on the front 2 axles and idlers. My 6x6 is older, with double 50 drivers, and double 40 idlers. The modified vice grips work awesome, I also made a set (Needle Nose). These chains have a couple hundred hrs on them, so they have enough slack to just do it by hand. Another good idea is to pull the chains togeather with "Zip-Ties", put the master in, then clip off the "Zip-Tie". Do you have any new vids in the works?
Where are you mounting the camera? Up high behind you, or down low in front of you? We also still have a pile of snow, but it's melting fast so I decided to pull my tracks off and put the bigger tires back on for the summer. Once I had the tracks off, I noticed that I had to change the back 6 outer axle brngs. That's why I made the last couple vids. I think they turned out OK.
Ran into a fellow yesterday he`s my gas meter guy he`s got a J5 track machine -a hovercraft -& a Coot it articulates in middle gotta check these out he`s admiring my Bobcat --my restore is all done thank god .---What size are these chains .
Does the clip have to be on the outside? Looks like it would be easier to get at on the inside.. Just busted the chain on my 750 Argo Avenger. Not the rear … but the mid one I guess you’d call it. It jammed up so bad it started going in circles only. Came undone easily though when I backed up a little.
The clip can go on whatever side is easier for you. Sometimes you can only install the master one way though. Just make sure to put the master clip on in the direction of chain travel, just in case something rubs on the chain and tries to push the clip off. “It happens 🤷♂️”
Jeff Sartain that's truly a loaded question. Riding conditions, wet, sandy; tracks, no tracks; good chain, cheap chain; normal loads, heavy, light; operator experience; Sprocket condition; tire choice, maintenance schedule, etc. What model Argo, double 50 or single 60 chains? Sorry, I'm not trying to blow off your question, all these variables make a difference. For me, front chains are the worst, they are the shortest and have no tensioners, so a small amount of wear makes a huge difference. If I get 70-100hrs on them in my sandy/wet conditions while running tracks, that's good. Second chains and Idler chains are next at 150-200hrs. Back chains can be up to 300hrs, double 50 chains last longer than single 60. These are rough guestamates, as I don't track chain hours. The conditions I ride are harsh, I run tracks most of the time, and I normally haul stupidly heavy loads. Apologies for not being able to give more accurate numbers.
Nice video, I just purchased a 2000 model 8x8 response and cant figure out where to adjust the chain tension on the transmission. Any advice would be appreciated.
great vids doc , i have watched them all and by doing so i've bought a 99 conquest, my question is what chain size does my machine have, ? i want to get spare equipment and tools could you do a video of nessesary tools and parts for us subscribers?
BTW, sorry about the oldie remark. I thought that Conquests and Avengers had the single 60 in the back only but they are mid and back. Now I know. LOL. What kind of chain do you use. I did mine last year and used Renold supplied by Kinecor. About 100 hrs on them, so far, so good.
No vids in the works at the moment. I bought a RAM Mount adapter to mount my camera to the Argo. I will post more later this spring. We still have 3 feet of snow in the bush here. I was hoping to get some wild turkey hunting done this year but it won't happen til next year. Zip ties, never thought of that. That would work good.
MrKalon52 all the tensioners in your Conquest should be the same, but there is a "new" style and an "old" style. I don't recall what year that the style was changed. I suspect yours will be the older ones.
@RockDoctor07 Oh J5 is a Bombadier track buggy slow but powerful ( on net ) he has an flat bottom air boat too this guy should be a hoot in the summer he needs a motor for the coot looking for one like mine --Thats good your machine has 50s 60s too like mine take a big tug -I did a tear down on my Trans was white oil put a vent on it so it can burp & not push oil out be good now .just making ice fishing tent attachment oh what fun it`s going to be now in winter .Merry HO HO to ya.
I believe it was 99 that the conquest went from all"Double 50 Chain" to half "Double 50" and half" Single 60" You should have Double 50 for your "Idlers" and front 2 axles, and "Single 60" for the back 2 axles. Check out the ARGO Forum at "6x6 World. com" for Parts and tool lists. Very good site, I go by Rock Doctor there as well.
Hell no, you can get em for a couple bucks at a garage sale, or new ones for under $10 at Canadian Tire, Peavey Mart, ect. Cheap ones will work fine ;-)

The vids are great. I am sure they will help a lot of people.

I am considering purchasing an ARGO. How many hours will a set of chains last on average?

Hi Frank. This guy explains it well without me having to type it out.

Just bought a 97 Argo conquest that needs chain tensioners. Are all of the tensioners the same that go in different spots?
MrKalon52 all the tensioners in your Conquest should be the same, but there is a "new" style and an "old" style. I don't recall what year that the style was changed. I suspect yours will be the older ones.
RockDoctor07 so whatever style they are they should all be alike correct? Thanks for the reply.
Correct 👍
RockDoctor07 thank you sir

Cool
Before you start you must cover yourself in grease, because thats how your gonna end up anyway 🤣

LOL
I don't think I could afford to have someone else do it for me ;-)
Those are easy compared to the front chains, those are a big pain in the butt
I 0:45
No need for a 40 dollar pair of vice grips.
