    After watching video, prepared to follow this excellent tutorial, but wanted to try simpler fix first. I took a 10ml medicine syringe (kind you get from pharmacy), filled with water and squirted small amount into port inside steamer where water tank connects. I turned the steamer on to confirm it heated up, squirted a bit more water in - steam came out after a few seconds. Reattached tank, AND IT WORKED! Yeah!
    Quick, easy fix, didn't have to take anything apart.

      Thanks for sharing your experience. I tried your simple version to fix my steamer and it worked like a magic! ~ just had no idea how much "small amount" of water you used. I squirted 10 ml of distilled water at once and then reattached tank, filled with distilled water, turned on the steamer, the result made both me and steamer are happy happy happy! Thanks!!

      +Patrick Borden I did the same AFTER taking it apart (which was unnecessary) since it seemed like a bad idea to remove the tube from the top of the steamer since it seemed very very firmly attached even with the spring clip removed. And it worked for me.

    Thank you everyone. I haven't been able to use mine for about a year, and after watching this and reading the comments, I used a simple straw and blew into both openings after removing the water tank. It worked like magic, and I couldn't help but steam two linen blouses before writing this comment! I just couldn't help myself! Thank you!

    I bought this steamer 4 months ago and didn't use it yet. It didn't steam but made noise when I pressed the button but no steam. I did what you did open it up. I didn't even need to take the clamp off. I pulled the tube off (just near the clamp) and there is a little black rubber at the end I put water in my mouth and prime the tube and reconnected it. Works! It started to steam for the first time. Thank you!

    thank you so much. This was exactly that I needed to fix the steamer. it took less than 5 minutes to fix. All I needed was a screwdriver and some distilled water. Simple, yet so important. Thank you, again.

On the first try, the steamer wouldn't work, and I was pretty ticked. Then I found this video, and the hubby fixed it tonight! I can't stop steaming things now...

    DO NOT TAKE IT APART! You don't need to. Just pump water through the hole that the reservoir at the bottom feeds into and that fixes it. I took a 1.875 mL liquid syringe medicine dispenser (the ones the pharmacist gives you to give medicine to kids), filled it with water, and shot it up the hole a few times. Worked fine after that.

    You can also take off the water reservoir, and using a straw suck up some water to reprime. While holding the water in the straw, put one end over the little hole in the handle where it normally sucks up water from the reservoir. Pull the trigger so the pump starts running and start letting water out the straw. I just left kept the straw in my mouth and blew against the water, putting some pressure behind it and getting it primed. Just listen for change in motor/pump sound...and watch out for steam coming out ;) easier than opening it up but using this video is definitely a good method!

    • @lynnfortney514
      @lynnfortney514 9 років тому +1

      +Justin Lynn Thanks Justin - your water-in-the-straw method saved me the trouble of trying to open up the case. I believe when I inadvertently left the steamer plugged in, the reservoir and subsequently the pump ran dry. I've had my Conair for years and was shopping online today for a new one when I saw these "fixes". It's steaming now, and I'm de-scaling with water/vinegar.

    Still using the same steamer from 7 years ago. Every couple of years it requires a prime and then it's good to go. Next time around it may need a vinegar soak. Noticed some rusty water this time, but I gave it a quick clean and it's back to normal.

  • @scarnes33
    @scarnes33 9 років тому

    Thx for this! Info for others... This ALMOST worked for me - needed to do one extra step, not discussed. I did this fix, it didn't work (not able to suck any fluid through the tube). I read some other repair suggestions and needed to put vinegar in the reservoir first instead of water, then after some patience, it did come through. So I guess there was a clog in the tube, dissolved by the vinegar. This video was still really helpful. I think that I did need to take it apart in this fashion. The manufacturer (NOW I know) recommends putting vinegar in the reservoir every so often before it stops working to maintain the steamer.

  • @fredsims9771
    @fredsims9771 4 місяці тому

    Depending on your water source, it might have a high mineral content (e.g., calcium, magnesium). If so, when the water is drawn up through the tube inside the steamer, heated and turned to steam, the minerals can come out of the water, solidify and form a scale inside the tubing. This scale can eventually buildup inside the narrow tube, block it and cause it to lose its prime.
    To remove the scale blockage, you can take the steamer apart as shown or use a syringe or use compressed air to attempt to blow it out of the line. Also, you can occasionally descale the line by running vinegar or a descaling solution used for coffee makers through the line. Make sure that you run some water through it so that you can remove the vinegar or descaling solution. If you need to prime it, you might have to draw or force water into the line with a syringe.

    Once you said that the prime had been lost I found an easier way to restore it. Remove the water tank and notice the input hole behind it where the water is taken up. I put some water in my mouth and blew it in there and I was good to go. Didn't have to take apart anything!

    As others said, it's actually not necessary at all to take the steamer apart. A syringe filled with a little water or water/vinegar mix pushed through the suction nozzle which connects to the detachable water reservoir, while steamer is switched on, works just as well.
    However, if after decalcification and priming the hose the steamer still doesn't produce steam, the suction pump is probably broken and it's time to buy a new steamer.
