@@Provoronkeepers1 Thank you for trying to help. What I need is the Service Manual. I can find it for XL-550 but not my specific model. I finally found that 1 screw was loose in a very awkward spot allowing my presser foot to swivel. It's got more problems but at least I'm not breaking needles. I appreciate your input.
Are you sewing or are you trying to embroider? It sounds like your bobbin thread is not "connecting" to the top thread correctly. Try using the hand wheel to feed the thread manually instead of the automatic feature.
thx straight to the point an educational.. no 5 min intro no 5 min explanation
I really need a XL-580 Service Manual. Can't find one anywhere, even Singer. Any ideas really appreciated.
I found the electronic version. You may have to print it out. www.manualsdir.com/models/singer/xl-580-futura-instruction-manual.html hope this helps

Great information.
Why are there stickers on all your lights?
Can you tell me why my thread won’t stay in the fabric when I try to run it?

So, no oiling anywhere?
Yes, you oil in the areas where there's friction as shown.
My 8500q singer came with nets to control the thread and not cause a loop in the path.
