Had no clue he was releasing new music! I absolutely loved VEGA INTL Night School, can't believe it's been 8 years since that came out. Don't know when I would've found out abt this new album if it hadn't been for this video, so, glad y'all had him over. Good picks too.
That album was the soundtrack to my first year of college. It was always an awesome album (one of the best of the decade IMO), but now it's extra special to me because when I hear it, I see images of my college town and friends :) I'd like to show some love for Psychic Chasms too, very different album but you can still tell it's from the same guy. I listen to it in the summertime and it's always fitting :)
that Fear & Loathing DVD was my first exposure to Criterion as well! amazing! still one of my favorite films, I too would have taken to updated Bluray hah!
Fine film choices, although "MAÎTRESSE" lost me when Bulle Ogier's character had Gérard Depardieu's character urinate on one of her clients. It's one of the more uncomfortable films I've seen but is quite funny in an odd and twisted way. Not sure I want to watch it again. Thanks for mentioning the great artist Ralph Steadman in reference to "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." The film's surrealism is a wonder and does a fine job of portraying the disorienting experience of being under the influence of a hallucinogenic drug. Oh, and Benicio del Toro steals every scene he's in with a brilliant and edgy performance. Marvelous stuff!
I have a question is it a bad thing to sill collect DVDs in the 2020s because I know this an unpopular opinion, but I personally prefer DVDs over 4Ks and Blu-Rays because while I have nothing against Blu-Rays and 4Ks It's just that I prefer the DVD format since their cheaper to purchase and they have so much more personality in terms of Menus being vibrant and animated and Bouns Features being more robust (for the most part).
@@matayolandas I don't know though because from my experience menus on blu-rays (to me at least) look kind of bland to me (Except for Criterion's Menus).
I do not understand why the vast majority of the people making selections just take films that they are already familiar with. Seems like a blown opportunity to me.
I think you can trust a person, who, when explaining why they love a film, uses their inability to explain in specific methods or techniques, but moods or feelings they experience from watching a film.

So funny @ 0:13 - imagine the headlines: Well-known actor gets beheaded in the criterion closet by falling bluray!
So awesome to see this collab of all people. Never would have expected this

One of THE greatest dance albums of the past decade.
VEGA INTL Night School is 8 years old now? I was like 18 when the LP came out. My god i feel old!
@@bl00dvv1tch3i truly hate it when twentysomethings complain about feeling old

That Peter Falk micro impression was quite decent tbh
RALPH STEADMAN name dropped! I love it!🫀🌈👾
First time since Paul Dano someone has dropped some precious Criterion 0:14.
With that aside, I do like his movie picks.
he's a short dude. Criterion should have a ladder for tha homies.
@@cloudbusting_there’s been a stepping stool for shorter guests in previous videos. I guess he was feeling ambitious in that moment.😂
True Stories is great, one of the best (and most underrated) of the 80s. Happy to see that Criterion did a job on it.
Love Neon Indian, love these picks!
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Mystery Train and True Stories! Excellent picks!
I was expecting some Argento's film or any other very vintage 70's B Movie, but in any case, I love his selection 💗
Thank you🌲👍
Some very inspired picks in this one.
How do you guys pick who gets to visit the closet?
Wow! I have some great movies to watch now.
Omg, that's Luis Humberto Navejas, from the contemporary rock group Enjambre 🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀☝️
that Fear & Loathing DVD was my first exposure to Criterion as well! amazing! still one of my favorite films, I too would have taken to updated Bluray hah!
😅 Quickest thumbs up after that jump. Kudos.

@@maxtubb I prefer the crisper image. And I think the blu rays also have cool menus.

One cool dude.. Great picks!
Movies could use more chillwave
I have them all. I just never had time to watch them.
great episode. love neon indian
"should have taken acid with you" and "annie" remain all time bangers. love this dude
The Goat!!
This man is Dalicore
Use or ask for the step stool next time. I've seen others in the Criterion Closet use one.
a lotta people pick Sid & Nancy

Criteria closet. Yes. That is the, game, Criterion, plays.
Throwing off “diagetic audio” in passing. God love him.
It's "diegetic" and its a pretty basic film term, not some obscure esoteric concept

I love you Alan

The goat
Canoa is very well done/ and shocking! a timeless political message
Can someone do the math and put the picks into a list?
But anyway, 'Medium Cool' (1969) was such an excellent and exploratory choice!

he could play charlie chaplin
hes so hot
just as I said Rebecca Miller was boring, this guy is the opposite, and looks so genuine, like a real person, didn't know him at all but i like him
Is it true that Criterion is going back and editing dialogue from older films that do not adhere to "modern audiences"?
Never heard of that, as far as I know all their films are uncut and uncensored. Even on the streaming service.
