Yo MegMogwai, I actually main Lissandra Taliyah thralls and have been climbing pretty consistently with a high win rate but it took a lot of trial and error. In this meta, Liss making your nexus tough is surprisingly good against a lot of things like Samira/Fizz or Any elusive wincon. For great favorable results:
1. Replace both clock hand and the 6 mana "activate twice spell" with 3 copies of time in a bottle and 3 copies of sands of time. Predicting early and lowering the landmark can either help taliyah on turn 5, or at least find her for turn 5. Sands of time in a perfect run on defense is perfect when a thrall is on 6 turn cd as it lowers the cd down to 2 and taliyah comes the next turn. Not many people can deal with two 8/8 with overwhelm on turn 6.
Additionally: My secret sauce that's been a game changer is Curse Of The Tomb. Like the OTK renekton deck, any blocker on a thrall takes double dmg with COTB and most times you get at least 14 or 15 dmg thru plus a free predict.
Lastly, running 2 copies of buried in ice helps for 2 reasons: One, with a lot of predicts you can find it when u need it. Two, it levels Taliyah as each ice landmark counts as a self landmark. A turn 6 or 7 buried in ice with 2 or 3 thralls on the attack or the next turn attack leaves em helpless.
I always thought Liss Taliyah thralls was an S tier deck, but it has to be played meticulously and with patience.

@@brydiginte6552 Sorry! Here is the deck code that I've been running the last couple of weeks. I change it every now and then depending on the match ups I've been facing, but this has been pretty ok so far for turbo thralls and board control.
TIP: HARD MULLIGAN FOR AT LEAST ONE CARD THAT GENERATES A THRALL ON TURN 1-3 IF ONE DOESNT SHOW IMMEDIATELY. The gameplan is to at least get 1 thrall by turn 7, but in like 60% of cases you can have 2 thralls by turn 6. Also try to have 2 thralls on board in case Taliyah isn't found.
Tip 2: Treat your Nexus hp as a follower: Don't be afraid to lose it. Early on, if needed take up to 12 or 13 dmg over the course of 5 rounds against regular decks, and up to 9 or 10 against aggro decks. You will either rebalance with thralls, be able to controll most dmg from that point, or Lissandra will prevent at least 1 per each attacker from then on.

Also against aggro decks: Best favorable time is to use sands of time when defense on turn 4 while having a thrall on 7 or 6 cd. It will will nerf their board 2 dmg per unit (AMAZING against Samira Fizz) and lower a thrall to 2 or 3 cd, perfect for Taliyah to copy it on turn 5 or turn 6.
I love thralls it’s definitely my most played deck, I play a very different version but thank you for bringing more attention to the deck type!! I think it’s one of the most engaging types of decks to play with and against bc of the timers and inevitability that the thrall clocks add! Thank you again for the amazing content 💚

I experiment aswell right now, currently on lissandra only and addition of stances for recovery and boosts for thralls and lissy. I must say I barely see the need for more thrall spawnings, however spawning 4 in one turn is hilarious, I have to admit. Pretty cool deck though

Freljord needs more 8 cost units. I tried Liss with SI to scam her levelup with Soul Cleave, mana ramping, and Tryn but it doesn't close out well enough. Soul Cleave on Hunting Boar is a real scammer move. Also, if you attack with Boar, usually your opponent won't block which gives you a nice plunder proc for your Wolfrider to ramp anyway. Soul Cleave just doesn't have good targets though, and Tryn is the only sensical synergy. Might be a deck there somewhere, likely without Liss entirely.
Can't see how this deck can be playable, when it has 0 draw. I tried it a few times and got completely annihilated.

I agree draw is very important but with a more reactive, mid-game play style it becomes way to hard to fight against if they don’t finish you fast

I dont like how they nerfed this deck archetpye to the ground. it was a strong top deck but wasnt as op or frustrating as the older ezreal/karma decks, the swain/twisted fate decks, azir/lucian, azir/irelia, and the list goes on. Those decks were genuinely busted and didnt get nerfed as hard when you compare what key cards got hit.
By far the most unfair nerf was the Frozen Thrall going to 9 Countdown from 8. The nerf to Sands of Time and Promising Future were completely justified in my eyes.
That being said, I wish instead of making Promising Future a dead card they would just rework it into something else. Like "Summon a copy of an allied landmark in play that costs 2 or less."
It is really frustrating how Thralls was an underrated meme archetype for so long and when they finally decided to give it a couple new decent support cards they killed it WAY harder and faster than any other tier 1 deck in LoR history.

To be fair, at their highest moment Thralls were fairly OP. It wasn't the highest play rate deck, but at Europe's seasonal plenty of people brought it for good reason. If it got a decent curve into promising future it was very hard to deal with. Honestly, out of all your examples I mostly just disagree on Swain. I think Swain/Twisted fate was not that frustrating even at its strongest, it had great removal and a strong finisher, but I felt it usually gave sufficient counterplay opportunity to not make it feel to unfair to play against.
that said, what is frustrating and what isn't does depend on the types of decks you like to play and their matchup into said meta deck though. If I feel like ranting over awful meta's I usually just bring up the season where the meta was the Watcher, Azir Irelia and Nasus, as the former two decks made practically everything else except Nasus and some rush decks unplayable (some other decks like dragons and overwhelm existed, but were usually inferior and had toin coss matchups. e.g. overwhelm was near instant loss to rush decks and bad against Azir Irelia (some of them packed ice shard just for this matchup), but typically won against the watcher)
Riot is inconsistent with its nerfs though. For instance with the time Ephelios was released, everyone knew he was OP, and he remained too good for several seasons as he only got minor nerfs that didn't really matter. Then at some point Riot had enough and went completely overboard in the other direction and made him unplayable with the 3 mana weapon spells AND the temple nerf in the same patch. I agree with gazersimp that Thralls did need a nerf, but probably not as much as it got.
