i kind of thought it was dieing off, but no its steady im shocked. Probly the economy has done this, resellers more than ever. My husband used to go to goodwill but not anymore, all the resellers are there like fiends waiting to buy and sell. The joy is done.
I get my rocks off watching you UA-camrs build your collections. Just happy to see the stuff saved by someone. there are 1000s of great games that are relatively cheap
The first half of the first sentence through me for a loop 😂 I see what you're saying though. Living vicariously through others to quell your appetite.
From experience collecting isn't a thing you should start doing right out of nowhere. Start by buying games you actually wanna play, wait for sales and dont let fomo get to you. Its easier to start with modern consoles, games are cheap and available everywhere.
I was getting ready to move so I was organizing my games and I put them In my basement and my neighbors across the street wall broke in her backyard from like a mini landslide and my basement flooded and my home insurance said I didn’t have flood insurance and my collection insurance said because I moved them to the basement out of my gaming room it wasn’t covered I lost my entire game collection and over 2000 movies dvd blu rays 4K laserdisc that was like a quarter of my movie collection. There is no way I would ever be able to build that up again so I love channels like yours I appreciate you, you’re cool beans and your tshirts are cool. So I guess I kinda live vicariously through other retro collectors and I can’t thank you enough for what you do and the info you give to people.
Like any collection, you set a budget, and collect what you like. It’s not a competition. Video game collecting is in a bubble, like other things it will collapse eventually. Just look at what happened to most collectibles in the 90s. Funko pops remind me so much like beanie babies back in the day.
I think something that people overlook (from so many directions) is that video games are not one hobby. Just because there's a market for Little Samson doesn't mean that there's any extra demand for Circus Attack on the 2600, Cat Trax on the Arcadia, or Pandemonium on the N-Gage. There is a sweet spot for adults who have disposable income but haven't started a family yet. Conversely, when they die their collections will flood the market. There is no Atari 2600 market, Atari took care of that themselves. The NES crowd is going to start retiring soon and they'll be looking to downsize. A few years after that, and they're going to start dying. Beatles and Elvis memorabilia is mostly worthless now because about a third of the target audience is dead. Meanwhile, the kids who grew up on Xbox 360 are about to start buying into nostalgia and the cycle will start again.
@@pigs18 To certain extent you are right if games are purely memorabilia, but gaming is much more. For example, truly old cars from the 20s and 30s remain expensive even though almost all collectors have zero nostalgia for them, and part of the reason is that so few remain in decent shape. I bet a working NES with cartridges that load in 2070 will attract buyers just like a roadworthy T-Model does.
My gaming collection is all digital. I have multiple gaming emulators, roms, and stand-alone PC games on my laptop. My emulators are retro ones that go from Atari 2600 to PlayStation 2. I didn't have to pay for anything that I have now.
I can tell you it has become a lot harder to find good deals in the retro market these days. Hell when i find a good deal it is a celebration. Occasional i do resell too but usually when i have to sell duplicates and while i do make a profit since i got em at a good deal already, i just price em at current or slightly lower market value never above. People in my area legit asked me why i ain't selling higher as everyone else. so you know the resell market has gone bad when people are legit shocked when someone offers a fair deal. It is still an affordable hobby for me and i do find good deals still. It just it takes a lot more effort and work these days.
I 100% agree with everything you say. There is always those beautiful games out of our reach and what I say to that is we can’t have everything. I wanted Samurai Shodown V Special for neo geo AES but nah I’m not dropping 3K if it doesn’t support the devs lol. it also just depends what you like, Collecting or gaming sometimes both. But I don’t think I’ve personally ever seen any item that I’m going to drop 1K on. Except maybe the Sakura Wars Dreamcast. That special case I will just not spend anything on anything else for like a few months and make it a goal
I want to thank the local retailer who never carried Colecovision games to who told me to go to thrift stores in 1993. Ever since then I've been on an a Bonanza of collecting from 93 to about 99 when I heard Rush Limbaugh advertise for eBay on his show. Then I continued collecting but I collected doubles in order to flip or to trade with friends. The collectapalooza ended when Macklemore hit number one with the song Thrift Shop. People were snatching up the cheap games (Even though there was no lyrics in the song mentioning old video games) and it almost became not worth it going to thrift stores anymore. The difference between most of you and me is I don't HAVE to have most particular titles and the ones I do are recently from the last generation considered budget. I'll accept modern emulation on consoles like the Nintendo Switch for some of the Nintendo classics I missed. Also for newer games I don't have to have physical cuz I know the game companies want to move to digital and it's a lot cheaper if it's if you buy digital and you're waiting for sale.
Back when i used to collect games, I'd sometimes buy the the game alone at a cheap mah and pop store then find a cheap case with art and booklet to complete it.
I started collecting video games and now i collect almost everything but video games lol. I collect movies, music and toys mainly. Rarly do i see any games while thrifting or in garage sales. I like steel book blu rays cause i can find them for dirt cheap and build a nice collection that looks cool on the shelf and is nice to watch
I really think that this a video that many collectors need to see. There are definitely some games in my collection that I would not own if it wasn't for flipping, trading, etc. There are also plenty of times I've had to tell myself no to buying certain games because of price. Sure I could put some games on my credit card but there is no hobby that is worth putting yourself into spiral of debt that can't pay back. I 100% agree with you that if you want some of those more collectible games/ items that you're going to have to put in the work if those things are out your budget. Thinking outside of the box is the best way to build a fantastic collection imo. I also think that collectors comparing themselves to others is also a problem in the community. I have also found myself guilty of this over the years.
I totally agree, it's important to stay within your budget and not let your hobby take over! It’s easy to see others growing quick or finding those deals and wanting the same thing.
Part of the problem is a lot dealers who will not hesitate charge the absurd amounts. Then people will buy those games at thosr prices. Last problem is to get the games that are "rare" games more accessible.
I've been doing this a long time a lot of it I got years ago when it was cheap. I see a lot friends trying to collect now a days It's super hard for them to get in to it if your all ready established with people that you can get deals from . My Suggestion to new collectors is go what you can afford to collect for. Like Wii. Ps3, PS4, and Xbox1 right now. There are still some good deals out there on older stuff like NES, Super NES, Sega Genesis, and even older stuff like 2600 games. You just need to find what you enjoy playing in collect for it and set a budget for yourself and give it time stuff will come in at prices you want you just need to be patient.
Gamer Ahmer: PLEASE hear us (Yes us) as Fellow Collectors…..YOU HAVE GIVEN FACTS! Thank you for being a True Pioneer as a LONG term Hobbyist. Happy 2025 and Beyond 🕒💰💯
I like the slow an steady method of collecting. 28 years so far in building my current collection. The last big purchase for me was the 2 Lunar Games on Sega CD for around $275 for the bundle. (2016) I try not to go over $250 for any individual game.
It's a hobby like any other. When I started collecting I had to sit down and decide three things: What would I and wouldn't I collect? What was my budget, how realistic was it, and is it reasonable? And what was my time frame? That last one is critical because it dictated how patient I would be. Since I decided that I wanted to focus on retro consoles I needed to figure out many a year on average would I want to pick up? How many are too many where I would take the time to enjoy what it has to offer? I feel that too many people don't know what their pace is and most importantly, when they can and should walk away. I attended a conventional panel hosted by Dan Larsen of Secret Galaxy last year and he had done something similar, creating a Ten Commandments for his toy collection and I was surprised just how many rules we had in common or were universal. (And I even stole one of his rules and added, "Sale prices don't matter, even free." If I wasn't going to buy something when it cost $40, why would I buy it just because it was $10?) Whether it's pinball tables, baseball cars, classic cars, bobbleheads*, stamps, or Pop Figures, you're never going to get all of them so you might as well get maximum enjoyment out of it with reasonable boundaries. *I'm jealous of that Star Fox Adventures one.
That’s definitely great advice. People really need to set some things in stone when they start a collection or even continue collecting. Things can get out of hand pretty quickly.
I think it is definitely a problem with the price taking the option of gaming away from people. TBH I think the problem in the US is far greater than anywhere else 😥 great video
You can do what I did when I got priced out, and that is to invest in a flash cart for all your retro systems it beats emulation and having to spend a crazy amount for a video game and then later down the road when you have the money, then add it to your collection because those games are for the collection and the flash carts are to play
I would say game collecting is essentially paused for me at this point. I have switched over to actively collecting 4K Blu Rays, which is a lot more fun for me right now. I always keep an eye on the game collecting scene though, and whenever things course correct, even if that is 10, 15, or 20 years from now, I’ll be ready to start collecting again.
you can thank influencers for talking up games so much that it became a market beyond just one for enthusiasts. the vast majority of people think they're sitting on gold now instead of a hobby. and the people that make videos about flipping games are terrible for the hobby, maybe the worst. they're especially the reason a lot of people and places charge more. why let someone get rich off of me when i can do the same with what i already have. people within the community have made it worse for the community.
I really only started collecting this year. Like you I just wait for deals. So far I'm up to about 70 or so NES games, 10 SNES games, 3 2600 games, maybe 10 atari 5200 games. 1 Sega Master System game. 3 Genesis games. 2 TurboGrafX games. I mostly wanted that experience emulation couldn't give me, on original hardware. That's where Everdrives come in. I have everdrives for the SMS, Genesis, SNES, NES and TurbografX. I get all the accuracy of original hardware with some real nice quality of life improvements (like save states) I also get other enhancements like Bluetooth controllers. Not to say there isn't deals to be found locally, but if it's a private seller I'm not paying "This is what it sold for on ebay!" My go-to response to that is, "Are you gonna deliver to my house and offer buyer protection, LIKE EBAY?"
I've been building my game room this past year now and it's coming along nicely, I've added hundreds of good games for cheap (€10-€20) and the most I spent on any individual item was the Fallout 3 Collector's Edition for like €70 only because it's my favourite game, I'd be hard pressed to spend more than even €40 on a game!
@ Yeah, there's always going to be crazy inflated items as with any hobby but we're lucky emulation is easy so at least people can realistically play any game they want, which in relation to this video's topic means as gamers we're not really priced out of gaming but as collectors we're not so lucky!
Vintage video games collecting is crazy now. The prices on most of this stuff is insane. I stopped collecting baseball ⚾ cards because the prices have gone way up. It's hard to collect anything now. Everything is so expensive. 😮
Probably will see a flood of video game collections for sale around spring 2025. Everyone is struggling right now and looking at alternatives to collecting or changing hobbies.
I have been hit with collector's burnout a bit but its one part the price gouging and one part availability. There's a lot of competition in my area and even with the used media stores we have, it tends to be the same items over and over. The only time I see something new is when someone had to sell a part of their collection. And if I do find something I have to hope it is not too overpriced and it won't break my wallet. Luckily I am still finding some deals out there on Marketplace and such but nothing beat game chasing back in the day.
I think it's harder for newer collectors, but people who have been doing this for years will find those deals. Also, it depends on what you're collecting. You can find last Gen stuff cheap and stock pile games that should go up in value in the future and trade/swap or sell and get you the expensive stuff.
Hey GA, Im in Joppa. Other than Retro Replay and their other store in the Amish Market, where else do you to find games? Id like to find a new spot to find some games...
@@LukeDodge916 There is ReGen in Towson Mall, New 2 Us in Odenton, Play Raven and Storm Crow in Eldersburg, Random Treasures (closing at the end of this month) in Rosedale.
I'm gonna say one word. I know a lot of people hate this word, and think it's evil, but I promise you it is not. EMULATION. Just play the damn games for free and let the bubble pop on its own.
I rarely get collectors editions any more or piece meal them together. To be honest, I do not spend nearly as much on gaming any more and when I do, it's retro stuff. My other hobbies have gotten my money all in all, that and always fixing stuff that breaks, pay mortgage because the wife is under employed for a third month....lol sorry... TMI. Running a household takes priority as well as holiday spending. Happy holidays btw!
I would argue that your statements are incorrect. If I collect cars I might be priced out if all I wanted was Corvettes, Ferrari's and Masarati's. But if I want to collect mini's, Honda civics I would probably be in my price range. Same for games, there is always games out there for each generation which are cheap, with only about 5% of each library being extremely high priced. If you deliberately go out there and try to collect the grails on a low income you'll struggle, but its because you put yourself there. Shopping is supposed to be fun, gaming is supposed to be fun. I consider myself to be pretty well off and even I don't buy expensive games that often. 8 out 10 of my expensive games were bought before 2000. And the expensive games of 2030 are still cheap now.
Unfortunately when you own a lot of games most of the “cheap” ones don’t exist anymore. I often find I still want to try and play some of the more pricey games. Most people though may still have cheap and affordable titles left. I still will show how I find deals on some of these pricey games and help others do the same.
For me I'm collecting games for me not to compete with anybody else and I won't spend more than $30 on a single game unless I actually have the money to spend but that is very rare
I have plenty of games I want but would never pay anything over a hundred anymore. I would like to see more collections like the Contra or Castlevania or Evercade collections. You still get something physical but can get all those games on your console for thirty. If they could bundle a bunch of those old games together in a collection like they have already done with some, I think that is a great and affordable option to skip having to have it in its original form.
Absolutely I just found a complete copy of Victorious Boxers: Ippos road to Glory game for the PS2 for $10 so yeah you definitely can get good deals just gotta do the road work.
The only reason I have anything is because I didn't let the bullies win. I kept all my childhood stuff and had a great base to start from. I bought pokemon cards from yardsales for about 11 years before 2020. That market exploded and I sold out to dive farther into other collectibles. I predicted right and video games blew up after I invested my pokemon money. So my initial 12k profit off Pokémon cards turned into a massive video game collection. I think, the future of video games is the cultural relevance of said video game. Something like Pokemon is going to hold an everlasting grip on the market. Where as Robopon will fade into obscurity. I think, a smart move would be not to sell out, but to reallocate. BUT thats only if you're worried about losing money. I've been loving picking up Megman Battle Network OGs since the collection was released. OH thats another thing! AVOID IPS THAT ARE UNDER THREAT OF COLLECTIONS lol
Yes! Pokemon will always have a group of people who love everything about it. Some things will definitely become more niche while other things will continue to go up in value. I’m definitely curious to see where it ends up.
@@GamerAhmer agreed!! I think, personally, the Pokémon games are going to reach Chrono Trigger prices, with the GOAT games like crystal and emerald reaching earthbound prices. That’s my prediction! Horror stuff will also continue to rise imo
Retro collecting is not expensive, at least no more expensive than modern games, people just live in lalaland and think its a human right to have a little samson for $5 CIB because thats what they saw in a garage sale 30 years ago. They complain about paying $20 for a ps2 game but have no problem spending $90 in a digital modern game, my brain just can’t understand it.
retro gaming collecting in the mainstream is a bubble because of speculative investors chasing the hot commodity. coin collecting went through this in the 80's and baseball cards and comic books went through this in the 90's. Most of the stuff in those markets crashed but there is some stuff that retained value. I expect within the next 3-6 months a lot of speculative investmentors who flooded the hobbie and larp as collectors are gonna unload their stuff once the media stops gaslighting the public and starts being honest about the state of the economy. Investors want to get value out of their investment before the bubble bursts and leave someone else holding their bag. People who collect for the sake of collecting will likely find some deals but for most things prices should plateau once they fall and not really rise The crash would be great for legitimate collectors and bad for the people who bought into it to make a quick buck.
I'm a retro snob. I stand by original hardware, but I'm not exactly wealthy either. What's my solution? I use Everdrives, ODEs, custom firmware and hard-modded systems.
Retro game collecting need not be expensive. Every old console has expensive games in it's library and those are what UA-camrs tend to talk about. I recently got an N64 and have about 15 games for it, most in the $10-15 range. Good ones too! The PS2 has a massive library available and quality titles can be had for $20 and under. If you want Rule of Rose be prepared to shell out some bucks but the majority of PS2 titles are quite affordable!
Why would I care what other people collect or what they have? Just buy what you want to play and only buy that. People are weird and I don’t really understand why random peoples opinions matter so much. I’d pay 60 at most for games
Have over 80 CIB NES games i bought in the early 2000's and never sold. Never paid over $20 for one. Same with Genesis. I don't buy cib anymore unless its a deal but still collect slowly.
@GamerAhmer The nostalgia bug hit me early when I first got back into gaming when ps2 came out. My GF at the time thought I was crazy for paying $250 for a set of mega man 1-6 cib. 🤣 That was the most I paid for any of my NES collection.
I am actively colleting NES and moving to completion of the NTSC set. I have all the heavy hitters done. I am at around 100 left. I will likely slow down once I am finished. I love doing it but it is becoming more and more of a hassle than anything else. We are the reason the prices are high because we keep paying them LOL just like Atari, NES prices will eventually drop. Our generation will eventually all pass on and kids today have no attachment to these games the way we are attached to them. Hell they can play them on the switch online if they want. Everything, even retro will and is becoming digital.
There are definitely tons of deals out there. We started actively collecting on April of this year and our collection is already at 10k. We have spent very little of our main income to acquire that it’s mostly been finding deals at FBM, garage sales, flea markets, GameStop. But also since we are already hunting sometimes we pick up things we don’t necessarily want for the collection to sell. The hobby can be very self sufficient. All of our con’s money we used last year came from one garage sale find of sealed 90s X-men toys we sold on eBay and whatnot. Literally just grabbed an snes bundle ooff Facebook where I kept some games for free and made a little profit to use for the collection . Love the engaging topics you have been picking lately!
That's awesome! I'm glad to hear you're having success with your collection! Sounds like that is the way to be! Makes it easier to collect what you enjoy.
@ yea definitely got scarred at the beginning becuase first thing you hear is. Is so expensive there are no deals but that’s not the case. Might take more effort now but the deals are still there to be found
for my collection I only buy the games I want to play and yes there are lot I do want but the coast is too high a lot of the good deals that people find you cannot find around where I live there is too much competition if you find a good deal it gone in seconds. Other than that the biggest issue for me is the space needed to own all those items
I like buying and playing games but i wont spend several hundred for one game plus most the expensive games are not that fun anyways. Like little samson games ok but not worth what its goings for
I decided to stay away from cart based games from 80's and 90's. Cost too much and pretty much just decided to buy cd based games. I feel like its a safer way to get remakes and remasters over those older games that I've come to realize while I grew up with those games, IMO just not worth the money for what these sellers want for them. I will just stick to PlayStation from now on.
Im a massive gamer but I buy more new used cheap games before they become super rare. I understand the people want certain items for nostalgia. But you have to think responsibly. People want to use your interest as a way to scam you. Thats why there's a mobile microtranaction game for every IP is because they want to take advantage of your nostalgia. They on purposely make things more expensive to price you out of the market. If they have it in store. It's probably not that rare. No ones just going to randomly decide to decide one day to buy a 35 year old video game for 3k. At some point the people that want those games will die out. I just keep buying the new products. Why buy a super old Nintendo console when you can buy the new one. And yes theres probably going to be switch 2 soon and yes there's gunna be new games for it.
I'm priced out but also don't care. I know it's supply vs demand. It is what it is. I'm priced out of home ownership and fancy cars too. If I want to play the game I can emulate. I have invested in analogue consoles so I can play as many games truest to hardware that I can. If you think gaming is expensive try being into pinball machines they are like 15k (canadian) a piece so I don't own them either even though I love them.
Jeah... I nearly stoped buying stuff anymore. Pricing is insane. Maybe I will sell o big chunk of my collection. I have few series and I need only one game to complete it (like MegaMan5 or StreetsOfRange3 or ZeldaLinkToThePast), but this one game is 100 bucks or more... and thats to much... it's just a old game... To collect old games is currently more annoying as fun.
Stop collecting games and start actually playing your games. Most collectors have a backlog of games that they will never play. Focus on actually playing the games and you will save so much money.
No it hasnt happened to me. Am a N64 fan and collected about a 100 games and some nice hardware and its cool. On pricecharting my whole N64 set is worth 3100 euros.
Blame UA-cam and channels like this make money off of games prices going up. UA-cam made it this way. I’m not sure why the discussion two things made it spike UA-cam channels and Covid and all the grifters and normies GOTTA have it. Nothing against this Channel or you but it’s just a little rant. TheFOMO era of retro gaming is stupid. That’s why I get systems mod them and buy emulator hdds and upload them on my modded system / pc
I don’t blame it all on UA-cam. UA-cam has been around for a long time and so many people watched these retro channels before. There are way too many factors especially with resellers.
@ not like after Covid . Also retro gaming was not popular until about 2014-2017 and I’m old enough to remember tips and tricks magazines use to have a “game room spotlight” section so collecting retro games is not new. It’s the artificial hype. Just like Piglets big adventure that game got artificially hyped due to tiktok. This new era from 2016 and up and Covid with the Normie boom and game grading and everybody thinks they have gold and retro channels like yours and Metal Jesus rocks are making prices insane and just it’s easier to cave in and do DIY repros or piracy
@ I highly doubt my small channel is to blame for this 😂 With people who have millions of followers and those who resale… I’ve built my collection by finding deals, don’t buy multiple copies to “inflate” prices, and don’t resell or glorify it. You have to know that people who watch these channels and support this are also apart of the hype. Without people watching there wouldn’t be this “popularity”. 🤷🏻♀️
With respect, you talking about being priced out of the collection feels like a big cinematography UA-camr saying gear doesn't matter. I love your collection and your videos!
You're a part of the problem. People who buy games to throw on a shelf and never play. Might as well just collect empty boxes. A good 90% of retro gaming youtubers aren't gamers.
I do play games. I also have people over who get the option to pick any game out that they want to play. I’m also planning on doing things with my collection in the future. Not everyone who collects is hoarding every copy of a game. I also started collecting long before it was “popular”. People were throwing this stuff away or getting rid of it cheap back in the day. 🤷🏻♀️
It's tough... I've only paid 100 dollars (700 Danish Crowns) once for a video game. Usually, I refuse to go that high, but it was a game that I really wanted. Not needed, but wanted. Now I have a list of all the games I feel I need to complete my collection for certain consoles and how much I'm willing to spend next to each title. I have come across titles I really wanted and needed, but had to say "Too bad, not this time".
If you want a physical cart you should just import Rockman X3 for Super Famicom. It's less than $40 and outside of some japanese text in cutscenes the game plays the same as the overpriced american copy.
Who is? I said some people are to show that’s why prices are the way they are 🤷🏻♀️ No one buys my merch. I usually give it away for free at conventions I attend. 😂🤣
Tbf replicas of games are better than 99.9999% of originals of beat up copies for relativity pennies. The game itself is a Digital identical binary code copy so seems like madness to care and buy originals if you just starting now. And 3d printed signs/statues and the like are again better or improved on 99.9% original s. So if I had missed the boat that's what I'd do. A replica games room of immaculate games and statues would still be incredible. I wouldnt care if Joe bloggs has originals. The games will play identically. It's not like a replica rolex or ferrari with parts which don't perform the same. And modified consoles can do miracles for pennies now anyway.
Great points. I love how things are changing in the collecting scene with people making things easier to enjoy. Some of those signs and displays are cool!
Retrogame collecting is a luxury. Emulation is your friend if you just want to play.
Emulation is definitely helpful!
This is the correct answer.
This is the way
Which sucks because it USED TO be super cheap, which is why many got into it. It's just not worth it these days.
It’s just going to get worse until people our age start aging out of it
Probably.

For example, truly old cars from the 20s and 30s remain expensive even though almost all collectors have zero nostalgia for them, and part of the reason is that so few remain in decent shape. I bet a working NES with cartridges that load in 2070 will attract buyers just like a roadworthy T-Model does.
GA is a keeper!
Cute, gamer and frugal! 😁👍
My gaming collection is all digital. I have multiple gaming emulators, roms, and stand-alone PC games on my laptop. My emulators are retro ones that go from Atari 2600 to PlayStation 2. I didn't have to pay for anything that I have now.
😮
I can tell you it has become a lot harder to find good deals in the retro market these days.
Hell when i find a good deal it is a celebration. Occasional i do resell too but usually when i have to sell duplicates and while i do make a profit since i got em at a good deal already, i just price em at current or slightly lower market value never above.
People in my area legit asked me why i ain't selling higher as everyone else. so you know the resell market has gone bad when people are legit shocked when someone offers a fair deal. It is still an affordable hobby for me and i do find good deals still.
It just it takes a lot more effort and work these days.
Oh absolutely!
Love your turtle reference shirt as Pac-Man
Yes!! It’s one of my favorites. :)
You know me, I never pay more than $5 for a video game
Bahaha. Nice!
I hear ya! It's tough to justify those super high prices sometimes!
Oh very nice!
@@GamerAhmer sometimes you gotta literally and figuratively think outside the box 😜
@ oh absolutely! I agree! Lol!
I hear ya! It seems like it's harder to find good deals on games these days.
I totally agree with everything you said. 💯
Yes!
Part of the problem is a lot dealers who will not hesitate charge the absurd amounts. Then people will buy those games at thosr prices. Last problem is to get the games that are "rare" games more accessible.
Exactly! It’s wild!
That is a great suggestion, and it’s true. The only way to build a collection on a budget is to be patient!
Gamer Ahmer: PLEASE hear us (Yes us) as Fellow Collectors…..YOU HAVE GIVEN FACTS! Thank you for being a True Pioneer as a LONG term Hobbyist. Happy 2025 and Beyond 🕒💰💯
Thank you so much for the support! I really appreciate the kind words! :)
I like the slow an steady method of collecting. 28 years so far in building my current collection. The last big purchase for me was the 2 Lunar Games on Sega CD for around $275 for the bundle. (2016) I try not to go over $250 for any individual game.
That’s a great way to be! Hopefully you can continue to find those deals!
Still collecting games but mostly modern stuff as it’s way more available and I find deals more often.
Very nice!
I think it is definitely a problem with the price taking the option of gaming away from people. TBH I think the problem in the US is far greater than anywhere else 😥 great video
Oh I agree with that! Everyone should be able to afford these games. I sure hope the prices drop eventually.
Market law! When ppl stop buying at these prices things will eventually go down.
You can do what I did when I got priced out, and that is to invest in a flash cart for all your retro systems it beats emulation and having to spend a crazy amount for a video game and then later down the road when you have the money, then add it to your collection because those games are for the collection and the flash carts are to play
Very true!
That’s a great way to look at it! Let’s hope!
you can thank influencers for talking up games so much that it became a market beyond just one for enthusiasts. the vast majority of people think they're sitting on gold now instead of a hobby. and the people that make videos about flipping games are terrible for the hobby, maybe the worst. they're especially the reason a lot of people and places charge more. why let someone get rich off of me when i can do the same with what i already have. people within the community have made it worse for the community.
Definitely crazy to have seen the change over the years…
I really only started collecting this year.
It sounds like you've got a great collection going! Thats awesome! And absolutely. Have to be patient and hold out for those deals.
It’s always depending on demand. Demand drives up prices…
Yup!
Piracy is justified when the companies refuse to allow reasonable access to the games.
Great insight. Definitely crazy to think about prices on some games.
It definitely can be tough finding things at reasonable prices!
Probably will see a flood of video game collections for sale around spring 2025. Everyone is struggling right now and looking at alternatives to collecting or changing hobbies.
@@mellowrama9546 oh probably! I’m curious to see what happens.
Oh my god, clayfighter 64 is one of my favorite fighting games of all time. Cant wait for Nintendo to add it to Nintendo switch online.
Yes!! That would be awesome!
I hear ya. It's tough out there!
I think it's harder for newer collectors, but people who have been doing this for years will find those deals. Also, it depends on what you're collecting. You can find last Gen stuff cheap and stock pile games that should go up in value in the future and trade/swap or sell and get you the expensive stuff.
It’s definitely a game of patience and learning the market!
@@LukeDodge916 There also is Outlaw Video Games past Perryville in North East.
LOVE that shirt
Thanks!
I'm gonna say one word. I know a lot of people hate this word, and think it's evil, but I promise you it is not. EMULATION. Just play the damn games for free and let the bubble pop on its own.
True! Definitely not a bad word!
It’s just stuff depends where your priorities are currently. I do believe few year there will be crash on retro gaming prices.
I hope so! Definitely shouldn’t be this crazy!
Oh it’s sure expensive! If only we didn’t have other bills. It’s never ending! Hope all is well
I would argue that your statements are incorrect.
That makes sense.
You are a cool nice person 😎 ♥️ 😊😀
Thank you! :)
Yer shirt is bad ass!! ❤
Thank you!
Totally agree! I think they're a really great option. I love the collections!
Absolutely I just found a complete copy of Victorious Boxers: Ippos road to Glory game for the PS2 for $10 so yeah you definitely can get good deals just gotta do the road work.
That’s awesome!
❤❤❤❤
@ oh absolutely! I’m shocked they even went up as high as they did but with the entire popularity of the franchise I can see why.
Thousands of dollars for games they made way too many of are crazy though.
retro gaming collecting in the mainstream is a bubble because of speculative investors chasing the hot commodity. coin collecting went through this in the 80's and baseball cards and comic books went through this in the 90's.
People who collect for the sake of collecting will likely find some deals but for most things prices should plateau once they fall and not really rise
The crash would be great for legitimate collectors and bad for the people who bought into it to make a quick buck.
Oh exactly! I’m curious to see where it is in a years time frame! Definitely have seen patterns with other hobbies over the years too.
I'm a retro snob. I stand by original hardware, but I'm not exactly wealthy either. What's my solution? I use Everdrives, ODEs, custom firmware and hard-modded systems.
Very smart!
I'm glad you mentioned that! There's plenty of affordable fun out there.
Why would I care what other people collect or what they have? Just buy what you want to play and only buy that. People are weird and I don’t really understand why random peoples opinions matter so much.
I’d pay 60 at most for games
I know! But some people unfortunately think that way. Gaming should be fun!
Have over 80 CIB NES games i bought in the early 2000's and never sold. Never paid over $20 for one. Same with Genesis. I don't buy cib anymore unless its a deal but still collect slowly.
Woah! Thats crazy!
@GamerAhmer The nostalgia bug hit me early when I first got back into gaming when ps2 came out. My GF at the time thought I was crazy for paying $250 for a set of mega man 1-6 cib. 🤣 That was the most I paid for any of my NES collection.
@ That’s amazing though! Great games for sure.
I made my own amature video games from spit and twigs ❤
Same! Back in the day…
I am actively colleting NES and moving to completion of the NTSC set.
Oh exactly! If people keep paying the prices then they will stay up! It’s wild!
Might take more effort now but the deals are still there to be found
@ oh absolutely! I still find deals but I consider myself super lucky.
@ 100% it’s definitely competitive out there
@ sure is. Let’s hope we both continue to get lucky!
I collect to my own pacing, I collect on a budget 1 game at a time, quality over quantity, it's not Pokemon to me, I don't have to have them all.
Very smart!
for my collection I only buy the games I want to play and yes there are lot I do want but the coast is too high a lot of the good deals that people find you cannot find around where I live there is too much competition if you find a good deal it gone in seconds. Other than that the biggest issue for me is the space needed to own all those items
Space is always an issue. It’s insane!
I like buying and playing games but i wont spend several hundred for one game plus most the expensive games are not that fun anyways. Like little samson games ok but not worth what its goings for
Exactly. Some of these games are insane!
USD is weakening
keep buying more value than cash
I decided to stay away from cart based games from 80's and 90's. Cost too much and pretty much just decided to buy cd based games. I feel like its a safer way to get remakes and remasters over those older games that I've come to realize while I grew up with those games, IMO just not worth the money for what these sellers want for them. I will just stick to PlayStation from now on.
Oh it’s crazy seeing these prices. I do enjoy the remakes and remasters coming out. Helps those be able to play games that are “retro”.
people will stop caring eventually. it will happen.
Hopefully!
@ Yep! The prices are just insane now it’s sad 😭
@@iammrfrazzles I agree!
Exactly! Have to think responsibly! Well said!
I totally understand, it's tough to keep up with these prices!
I'm so glad I got everything I wanted years ago. No way could I do it all over again at today's prices..
And yeah,,the pandemic caused a lot of it.
Oh absolutely! I’m glad I started before this hype.
Yep! Part of the reason I am lucky is I collect Xbox.
Nice!!
I built a mister fpga cause prices are crazy
I like your shirt
Thanks!
I'm disabled and cannot afford to buy such things. Thank goodness for emulation. My limit for any game is $60.
If something is $60 but has day-one dlc, it's probably just bad. I haven't found a game that breaks this rule yet.
Woah!! That’s an awesome collection! Very nice.
@ I highly doubt my small channel is to blame for this 😂
With people who have millions of followers and those who resale…
I’ve built my collection by finding deals, don’t buy multiple copies to “inflate” prices, and don’t resell or glorify it.
You have to know that people who watch these channels and support this are also apart of the hype. Without people watching there wouldn’t be this “popularity”. 🤷🏻♀️
Just like to play games so emulation is for me. Could careless about stature of collection
Exactly!
With respect, you talking about being priced out of the collection feels like a big cinematography UA-camr saying gear doesn't matter.
I love your collection and your videos!
I appreciate that!
Oh exactly! I usually just say…it’s not meant to be. Right now anyway.
:( faded label megaman x3 for $250
:(
If you want a physical cart you should just import Rockman X3 for Super Famicom. It's less than $40 and outside of some japanese text in cutscenes the game plays the same as the overpriced american copy.
4:23 😂 You're turning it into a business!! Man, what a hypocrite. Is the Merch selling well?? 😂
Who is? I said some people are to show that’s why prices are the way they are 🤷🏻♀️
No one buys my merch.
People are absolutely delusional.
Probably
