This whole relaxed conversation and going on about music and art just brings it home that there is no sense of urgency, no desire to learn, or be an example of failures of thought to inform the following generations. This appears to be a nostalgia trip for two aging members of the upper class. No talk about policy, no talk about the dysfunctions of capitalism, no meat. Just easy, breezy talk about cultural and religious sensibilities. The left of the sixties grew up in a time when you could still earn a good wage with a high school education, where college was cheap, where you did not yet have massive consolidation of media and other industries, before finance became the tail wagging the dog of real productive activities.
So these hippies were mostly just content to navel gaze, 'find themselves', buck 'the man' and so of course it was easily commercialized. It was shallow to begin with. It wasn't like the twenties where people were suffering and therefore damn serious about worker rights, education, healthcare. Meat and potato issues, practical issues, not all this philosophical fluff. I'm not sure what in the world 'New Economic Thinking' is supposed to actually accomplish, but from the videos I've seen, it seems fairly directionless and this video is just one more example that shows it is just ran by unhurried, well off academics funded by wealthy people to just sort of putter around.

Dude, you are not from the sixties and have been indoctrinated in the realm of propaganda and agenda of extreme control of economy, material and spiritual, content of the body politic. War machine on steroids as a solution to the peaceful intent of the docile populace is a slap in the face of human potential.
Not all of us went to sleep and now many are awakening, with a stinging and lasting sensation of injustice and degradation of civilization on a course with destiny.

@@publicdomain1103 Kennedy and RFK and King and Malcom got murdered starting in 63 and soon later the hippies appeared. That was enough. It was a massive democratic and spiritual pushback. We should revive it in my opinion

The hippie movement was world-wide with it's main theme being change your mind by asking questions. Get involved by inspiring others to use their power of the vote.

When I think back to the 60s I can't even imagine it without the music because it was such a large part of our culture at the time.

Streaming music is actually bringing in more money for artists since the big record companies were ordered to rebate consumers in the early 2000's. Plus, artists paintings are making the most in all of history. Everybody and every company is making the most in all of history at the moment. It seems that Keynesian economics and past quantitative easing has caused too high of a valuation on everything except saving.
