The guy is clearly bright and talented. His knowledge and ability to traverese geners is unparalled. But - this guys lacks the emotion, and opperatic nature of fred. Sure, he just did what bobby mcferrnin (who is a lot less knowlagable then jacob). Did many times before. But just using the combined vocals of a full on crowd to send an emotional chill - feels cliched and has a snugish vibe into it. Freddie SWEFT the world with his "aaayyyooohh' and this is true innovtaion. Inspiring by breaking the ruls, not picking them down to the core. But - the debate is endless this is just my personal judging.
His music might not be for everyone, but he defintiely does not lack emotion. If you've watched a full performance of his, or seen him in any interview, he has a really nice energy. He also seems very genuine, which is hard to communicate through a screen

I was at this concert and it was magical. Not just Jacob himself, but also all the people that came to see this. Jacob using the audience as an instrument is particularly beautiful because it is an instrument that he himself has built and created. He went from being just another kid in his room to assembling a multi-continental audience... I'm excited to see what he does and how he will progress in the next few years, and will definitely be at the May 17th concert in Toronto if it hasn't already sold out.

@@roeniss That was the case when I went. I'm by no means a musician but went with a few friends who study at conservatoires and they knew half or more of the audience from having performed with them etc. Everyone was defo musically inclined in his crowd

he also starts out all his concerts with an icebreaking display of confidence where something like this is so expected, so they arent caught by surprise. the audience always knows that some kind of participation is gonna happen

- Fluent in multiple instruments (and can probably easily pick up any others).
- Has a better sense of pitch accuracy then any singer or musician I’ve seen or heard of.

The hard part of this isn’t getting the whole group on the same note. 95% of people can sing. The hard part is getting the whole group to perfectly change to the note you’re hearing in your head, which is incredible to watch!
Once Jacob gives the middle note, the audience is singing a major chord. Whenever he then asks them to change note, they will naturally follow the major scale rather than the minor scale.
@@jamesmiller7712 Yeah, most musicians or music enthusiasts have the intervals of the major scale burnt into them so even if we dk what the names of the notes are, we know what the "right" notes are

Honestly, I think this is how it sounds when humanity comes together. Not just vocally, but spiritually, socially, politically, and everything else in between. We have differences (like the different sections of the audience), but when we’re United as one, we too can sing a beautiful song. Much love Jacob!

@@taurtue the natural ability to use it well or not doesn't matter, the power to use it is there. I'm not trying to say everybody is a gifted singer I'm just saying it is an instrument in your body that can be used. Just like how not everybody can play piano well but most people don't have a hard time pressing keys on a piano, and in a sense that is still making music. I'm sure there were people in the audience who say they "can't sing" but still hummed along with the rest of the crowd, and therefore were singing as part of an ensemble, making music together. Based on things he's said in interviews I think that is a message he'd like to get across

@@yamiii So you've had personal experience with Mozart to confirm he wasn't egotistical, also Jacob might be overhyped or whatever you'd like to call it but at the end of the day he still has an incredible amount of musical talent and that alone should be respected.
Ordinary Videos I’m always amused when people describe Jacob as egotistical. If you listen to his interviews, talk with people who have worked with him, or talk with fans that have met him, the opposite is clear: he is humble, vulnerable, open... the antithesis of egotistical.
He knows he is talented, so he has a quiet self confidence but that is very different than egotistical.
I attended a music conference a few years ago. It consisted of about 150 Anglican musicians. Believe me, when we sang it sounded just like this. When I get to heaven, please god let it be this way. I’m so hoping🌺

1. A good portion of the crowd probably doesn’t sing often.
2. They weren’t singing any particular song, no words, just vocalization.
3. They most definitely hadn’t gone through several weeks of practice to do this.
Something like this is raw, organic, and it may be weird but to me looked and sounded like it was connecting in such a way that words fail.
A choir requires lots of practice, and memorization, both at home and with the other choir members.
This only took simple prompting and guidance, without the need for weeks long practice, to connect people and create something so beautiful.
TLDR: In summary, crowd participation like this is much different than a much practiced choir. In my experience, a choir has far much less community. Too rigid.
@@WhippoorWispWillow there are different types of choirs, it sounds like you didn't find the right one for you. i don't agree that there is more community in a one-night concert experience than in a group of people who meets regularly to work together for a common purpose. but of course you have to find a group where you feel at home.

What I think is amazing here is not that a random group can sound so beautiful, but how he achieves this through brilliant direction and teaching.
Actually surprisingly few people have genuine tone deafness: it's one in twenty. More people can hold a note than can't, and the more people you have, the more likely it is that their slight discordances will average out into the correct pitch.
It's why a small group singing happy birthday can sound like a train wreck, but a football crowd singing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' is surprisingly musical.
What he actually does brilliantly is the teach. Setting the three basic notes, then teaching one group to modulate up and down, then teaching another to do the same, before returning to the original group to reinforce their learning and take it a step further... That's what is so brilliant here. It's a masterclass in the fundamentals of good teaching.
Had that idea since I was a kid, brought tears in my eyes when I finally see it come to fruition, at least not me but someone else, and that someone else is you, I can make my peace.

My senior year of High School, I was in an all-state choir. The director did something very similar to this (divided the choir into many parts and would direct via hand gestures), and I can't describe the emotion the music really brings. Hearing/being part of a choir of nearly 300-500 people, and all being so synchronized and improvised was one of the greatest things I have ever experienced. Thank you Jacob for giving this audience a taste of how great music really can be.

A kid in my high school does this. We get together in the instrument storage room, whip out the saxes, and he guides us with is hand to make awesome chords and melodies.
Play it on silent and Jacob just looks like the most charismatic and captivating cult leader in the history of the world. Every single person in there was so incredibly focused on him and his instructions that I doubt there were more than 5 blinks in the whole audience during that.

This takes me back to my high school choir days (it was the largest choir our school had ever had - over 120 people). As a warmup, my choir teacher would put us through this exercise where we'd all start on the same note, and descend down the major scale until we each individually picked the note we wanted to stop on to create this dissonant yet ethereal sound. I miss making music like this with other people. :)

Ok so I’ve watched this video so many times over the years and I’m coming back to say that last night I just got to finally experience it in person, front row. It was the most incredible feeling in the world being in a massive room of people all in the moment, singing together. I’ll never forget that feeling. If you ever get the chance to see Jacob live, do it.
I remember being part of this when he came to Portugal, was the best music experience of my life, cos it really makes you feel like you belong, like everyone there is part of something, is truly amazing, is more than just good music.
Just got home from his concert. This was my favorite part. I went alone & sang my heart out during this part of the show. I can go very deep lmao but it’s gonna get sad x). Long story short, it’s very beautiful to feel a part of something greater than yourself. This rids the loneliness feeling you may be experiencing, if you are so. Singing with everyone intently.
