Helical gears impose axial loads ie gears will try and push apart along the shaft axis. Thrust bearings are required to cope with these loads which reduces overall efficiency and adds cost. One major advantage of planetary gear sets is tangential shaft forces are minimised reducing bearing load and thus increasing power transmission efficiency.
@@wheelitzr2 Gearboxes with straight cut gears are stronger and more durable than ones with helical gears but the drawbacks are present like with everything. The noise they make is one reason why they're not used in road cars and another is the cost. But for performance applications the tradeoffs are worth it.

Helical gears have angled teeth so there are always almost equal pressure at some point of the gear which is perpendicular to teeth, which is not case in other one. Hope you liked the video.
How do you get to hell? Very simple: claim that you're innocent. How do you get to heaven? Very simple: Admit that you're not Innocent, you're guilty and ask for mercy. How to know if you're guilty or not? Simply: Compare your life to the Ten Commandments God gave you in the Bible. Everyone agrees that if people followed the ten commandments there would be no need for governments or police. Do not lie. Do not steal. Do not commit adultery. Do not insult God by using his name as a cuss word. There are six more but let's just leave it at that. How many lies have you told in your life? Have you ever taken anything that didn't belong to you? Jesus said, if you look at a women lustfully you've already committed adultery in your heart with that woman. This is only true with helical style gears. Straight cut gears do not have the tendency to push in the shaft direction

That's where herringbone/double-helical gears come in. They balance the axial loads. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herringbone_gear

Sun gear - Motor/Generator #1
Planet carrier - ICE (4cyl gas)
Annular gear - Motor/Generator # 2
It’s a brilliant piece of engineering
I already knew about it, but I found this video great anyways, and easy to understand. Great.
Hey thank you, make sure to checkout other videos too. 😄
I love these videos that are short and to the point.
Thank you for this, short, sharp and to the point. My brain has a block against understanding gears but videos like this help.
We are glad to hear that!

Nice video, I'm going to watch a few more before deciding to subscribe.
Thanks.

Hedgecutters use a similar system to convert axial rotation into oscillations
Thank you for the useful reminder to drink water. Most videos remind me to do something else that is not so useful or important.
We are glad 😃, keep watching.
0:59 Ring gear is mislabeled as planetary gears. Great video!
Yes, we have noticed that, but this is the most viewed video and we have got good support so we can’t take this one down.
It was my understanding that straight cut gears are stronger and distributed load through the tooth evenly compared to helical but are noisy

We will make explanation video on this topic soon

But it is important 😉.
they are cool but not strong enough in high power application.
