Contractions in English
Вставка
- Опубліковано 17 лют 2023
- Contractions in English are shortened versions of two words created by replacing one or more letters with an apostrophe. Contractions are commonly used in spoken and written language to make speech more natural and fluid, and to save time and space. For example, the contraction "can't" is formed by combining the words "cannot" or "can not," and the contraction "won't" is formed by combining "will not."

Is the contraction form of water is spelled water's? I can't find it anywhere and the only time is see waters ever has an apostrophe is plural and plural possessive and they're both spelled waters'
Not an English major/professor but I thought I'd pitch in:
If you're talking about multiple distinct bodies or types of water, use the plural "waters"
If you want to indicate possession (such as, for example, lily pads inside the water), use "water's" (i.e. "the water's lily pads floated atop the surface").
If you want to contract "water is," such as in the sentence "The water is calm today," you _could_ use "water's," but be aware: it's not _formal_ English writing, though English speakers will generally understand what you mean if you use it, especially if it's used in speech rather than writing.
Nice explanation thanks sir❤
Example shall be, shall how use??

I can't catch the sentence with
wouldn't. Please,help me?
The auxiliary verbs would and had are both contracted to 'd.
Here are some similar examples:
You’d = you would or you had
He’d = he would or he had
She’d = she would or she had
It’d = it would or it had
We’d = we would or we had
They’d = they would or they had
What is the short form of I was?
There is no natural abbreviation of "I was".
Super
Thanks
What is of "Shall not"
The contraction for "Shall not" is "shan't." 🌟📚 It's a bit old-fashioned but still used in certain contexts. If you have more questions about contractions or English in general, feel free to ask! We're here to help. 🤗🌈

How can I differentiate she would+ she had=she'd In the real time situation
Differentiating between "she would" and "she had" can be tricky, but context is key! 🗝️
"She would" is often used to express a future possibility or willingness, while "she had" typically refers to a past action or event.
For example:
"She would help if she could." (Future possibility or willingness)
"She had already finished her work." (Past action)
In real-time situations, pay attention to the tense and context of the conversation or text. 🕵️♀️ If unsure, consider asking for clarification or providing examples to ensure clear communication! 🤔
Thanks
