      Just so you know I just watched the Dana video on installing the thrust washers and you installed them in improper order and the big trust washer is supposed to be between the axle and the wheel bearing assembly on the inside. And the hex washer goes between the 2 metal washers. I now have to go pull my wheel bearing back off to fix this issue.

    That big flat disc around 9:30 goes on the back side of the wheel bearing. It sits between the wheel bearing and cv axle. The 4 slot marks point towards the cv axle. Saw it on other videos as well as my 2 trucks were that way.

      No kidding huh. West coast doesn't have that big of a rust/metal decay problem. Been a tech for Benz for 20 years and I've heard that the east coast guys need a torch to remove nuts and bolts.

    Easier to turn the steering wheel than remove the tie rod. Definitely do not red locktite the caliper bolts.

    Good video but you installed the washers wrong. The plastic thrust washer with the grooves on it is suppose to go between your vacuum seal and your wheel bearing assembly. then your metal washer, hexagon washer ,metal washer and snap ring over your wheel bearing assembly

    Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the washers, I know there's another name for them, were installed incorrectly at the end. The large one should go grooves in before you add the bearing hub and then the last three should be round square round before you put the retaining clip in. Anyone?

      I caught this too. All my other resources have the gray grooved washer installed before the hub assembly. Only the 1. round steel washer 2. the hexagon washer 3. another round washer 4. snap ring goes on after the hub.

    My 99' has a tin dust shield... red lock tight is easily defeated with the propane torch.For this application I would use blue or orange 🍊 lock 🔐 tight. Make sure no grease on threads

    Those wheel bearings can be greased through the abs sensor hole. Make a plate with two holes in it. One drilled for the abs sensor hold down bolt to go through and the other drilled and tapped for a grease nipple over the sensor hole.

    The thrust washer order is incorrect. Should have the large plastic disc against the axle shaft vacuum seal and behind the hub, then alternating the 3 remaining washers on the spined end of axle shaft.

  • @davidcallaway9514
    @davidcallaway9514 2 роки тому +5

    Those tapered-seat lug nuts do not belong on those OEM aluminum wheels. The holes in the wheels are straight through and require a flat-seat washered lug nut. Maybe the wheel covers got lost and the owner of the truck did not like the look of the original open-ended lug nuts, but using incompatible lug nuts was not a correct solution.

    This video should be removed and redone. Some great info but also some horrible info as far as washer sequence installation is concerned. It is WRONG! Because of the professional presentation people are going to follow this video to the letter only to create problems and cost them money and headaches down the road due to improper installation of the washers.
