    Hi Greg, we have property in Banilad next to Dumaguete, you have a beautiful home, we are building our new house there in November, and going to put solar on our house too, hope we can get together sometime soon so if it's alright we can come see you and Wilma and talk more about and understand your solar system. Keep up the great videos. Very interesting and helpful, Darcy, and Margie

    Maybe you need to hire professional gardener to do landscaping on your big front yard to make it more beautiful and enhance the looks of your building.

    Mate look into wind turbines and solar panels combo working together generates 6x more energy and if it's not broke don't fix things like the pool small things that cost you got what another maybe another 30 years left in you need money to keep living keep going some time paying BBQ and not lobster will save you lot of money

    Looking forward to see the solar system set up you choose, its something that i been interesting for sometime, its also interesting to see how you do it over there compair to us in the UK / SCOTLAND, i have been watching a UA-cam channel called Rose in the Philippines, i think he said that he had a solar company in the US and he said that he is going to install a wind mill to generate electricity when they cannot generate any electricity from the solar.
    They certainly do things differently from you, i like you way of buying land road access
    I like the new time of your up load, nice to see how the puppy is coming along, why haven't both of you got a dog.

    Greg, just a suggestion, the 6 foot metal pole aerial, could lightning conductor and blow up your electronics. Might pay to check. All looking very good.

      Yes, I guess it could. It's buried in the ground as the pipe is 20 foot long. So might be grounded by being in the ground.

    Personally, I would not finish the ceiling on the outdoor kitchen. The more ventilation there, the better. And your indoor hood vents there as well.

    • @buildingthephilippines
      @buildingthephilippines  11 місяців тому

      We were concerned about smoke too. Well ventilated with the one side open. Wilma doesn't burn things, lol, and I never see smoke back there when she cooks.

    A friend of mine in Texas is installing solar in her home that would cost her $22,000K.
    I said, no way i would go for it. I'm gonna use that money to pay for my mortgage to lower down the monthly payment.

    • @buildingthephilippines
      @buildingthephilippines  11 місяців тому +1

      Yes, in many areas of the world it does not make good financial sense. I agree with your approach. Pay down that mortgage.

    Works out to roughly 42,000 - 43,000 electric pesos savings per year. The reduction of stress during both scheduled and unscheduled brownouts alone is worth it. Not to mention the fuel cost savings of not having to run your generator nearly as much as if you were without solar. Love the tall metal pole decision...that extra height to gain a stronger signal, plus having a far sturdier post during storms is a win...win. I was just thinking about a month ago how great a Bahay Kubo would look in that area you announced your intention of placing one. The weather being cooler at that attitude, plus a decent sized solar mist fan near the Kubo will have you guys enjoying many comfortable days and nights hanging out there. Smart couple!!!

    I just subscribed it today having watched your video on your completed house construction cost. My question is can you get homeowners insurance to cover your house from acts of nature, fire, etc.? if so, how much does it cost for your 150,000 USD house

      I attempted to do that 3 times. Kept getting stuck with about 2 feet to go. Ended up just taping to outside of pole. Hot as heck while I was installing.

    I can't remember if you mentioned it before, but do you guys have water filtration? I am planning to retire in the Philippines in 10 years and your videos are very informative. Any other tips to prepare for retirement? Thank you so much.

    • @buildingthephilippines
      @buildingthephilippines  11 місяців тому +1

      My thought is if your water is clean and sand free don't need it. Most people install them, then they bypass them soon after as the filters get plugged and water pressure disappears.

  • @nictoo49

    Another question I have about your land and house purchase.. not to sound too negative however, to protect yourself and your investment I think you could have signed with your wife a 50 year lease on the land, giving you the right to own the house that sits on that land. My understanding is a foreigner can own the house, but not the land it sets on and a fifth your lease protect you.

    • @nictoo49
      @nictoo49 11 місяців тому +1

      And I mean a 50 year lease protects you from having to vacate the house in case things go south

    • @buildingthephilippines
      @buildingthephilippines  11 місяців тому

      Maximum lease in 25 years with option to renew. No reason to do that for me. Been together a long time. Would make sense for girlfriend or maybe a 10 year or less marriage. Hate to sound conceited, but we are not the typical married couple.
