How have those curtain held up?. I'm concerned about mildew. Thanks

They are holing up very well after a year and no mildew. I'm really impressed with these outdoor curtains.

I just came across this! I rent and have a small patio but it’s very open to everyone, as I am in the first floor. I was trying to think of a good way to hang outdoor curtains without a lot of major work and this video was perfect! Inexpensive and easy to remove when I’m ready to leave. Thanks for sharing!!
That is awesome! Glad it helped.
Thank you SO MUCH for including the link to the products. It makes it so much easier to find the correct item and size for this project.
You are so welcome! glad it was helpful.
Thanks John! These are the type of UA-cam videos that remind me why UA-cam was originally create. Thank you for sharing - I will use this same template on my apartment balcony.
My pleasure!. Glad it was helpful!
Thank you John; great ideas, we went to our local Colorado home depot and got several 1/2” x 10’ 600 PSI Schedule 40 PVC for $2.91, Ook 2-1/4” white vinyl cup hook 10 pack for $5.98, we went with 1/2” x 72” zinc threaded rod for $10.46 which was even more rigid and thicker than the 3/8” but fit perfectly with the 1/2” PVC. I also bought several Dura 1/2” schedule 40 PVC caps for $0.56 each for the ends of the PVC Pipes. Thank you again as we loved the idea and it worked great for us.
Glad it helped and great improvement.
Thank you! Great idea with pvc to cover the metal rod so no meed for paint and no rust to deal with. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Glad it helped!
Great hanging method. We are looking to install privacy curtains, but i wasn't sure what method to use to hang them. After seeing your install method, I think I will use this method instead. Thanks for sharing.

This is a really creative idea. The curtains look great! The view of the palm trees and water from your patio looks very peaceful and beautiful!
Thanks for the visit and comment I appreciate it.
This is such a great idea!
I live in a really hot climate and think I may use some expanding foam inside the PVC to add a little more rigidity and prevent bowing
Sounds like a good idea. Thanks for the feedback, let me know how it turns out.
Hello John Thx for the Video I loved it Very easy to follow. You have a Creative Mind. I am getting started this weekend.
You can do it!
Me likey! I'm heading to HD for PVC- Albeit, we'll need to affix the rod to concrete. Thanks for this idea :)
Any time!

Great DIY John! I would probably leave them open all the time so I could see that lovely view you have there
They are open most of the time for sure. Thanks for the visit and comment.
Thanks for your time and explanation! I am attempting to use pvc and I had attempted to use round wooden poles to push inside. Your metal rod choice is much better! 👌🏽
Glad I could help.
I will always say that you are very good at everything, we always learn a lot from everything you show us.
I'm not good at everything but willing to learn things I like. Thank you for the comment.

Grazie Giuseppe, buona fin settimana.
Hi your video was very informative just what I was looking for. I have gazebo 12x13 that has a Mosquito net and I wanted a little more privacy with the curtains and did not know how to add them very good idea. And I will try this out. I was searching for ideas and video hit on the head.
Thank you!
Glad it helped🙂
@@JohnCRV ..I hope you can help with my problem..similiar to the above but (1) I have a pergola with no above structure to screw in the hook in and (2) my 7 ft pvc pipe bent with the weight of my drop cloth curtains. Any advice? Should I use the pipe in the pvc..if so, what about question 1?
@@zaneblane8160 hi, 1) if you have no beam going across you will need to install some kind of beam first. If you do have a beam but not enough room to install hooks under because you have a screen, you can install the hooks on the side of the beams, just make sure they are long enough.
2) You definitely need to insert a pipe or solid rod inside the pvc pipe to keep it from bending and also one hook in the middle. A 10 feet rod you will need a hook on each side and one at 5 feet. Hope this helps.
Your home is very beautiful. The PVC is a great choice as it won't really be effected by the weather!
Thanks Josh. I think ithe PVC will last a long time, I hope!
Omg I loved his accent! Alan wise guy does home improvement!! Love it. 😊
Too funny😂
This is such a useful video, and the end result is great! Love the choice of the curtains! I wish you and your family a lovely rest of the week, John!

👌🙂
Amazing! Like 1769.
Many thanks
Thanks for showing John very gooc video 👍
Thank you Dave.
I'm 💯 doing this
Great!
Thanks for this innovative method. I am debating with someone about using pvc vs galvanized steel for an outdoor curtain rod. Why did you choose pvc with steel inside for reinforcement as opposed to using galvanized steel only for the rod? My debater said pvc will sag and the curtains can’t be removed once the pvc is glued. He said the steel is threaded so couplings and cups can be screwed off if necessary to remove curtains.
I've done other outdoor projects with galvanized piping but this project I felt it would be an overkill with the couplings and all.... but it can be done and can use Velcro tab panels so you can put them on and take off without removing the rod if you wish to do it that way...
Your other question on PVC
"curtains can’t be removed"? The video clearly shows how the curtains can be removed 2 different ways... by just snapping the pvc rod off the hooks and sliding the curtains out... or using Velcro tab type curtain panels, so you can put them on and take off without removing the rod if you wish to do it that way...
Good luck with your decision..... Either way is fine...
Thank you!
Great Tutorial
Glad it was helpful!
I love this idea
What's interesting is I had this idea for years but my better half thought it was not a good idea. Now she yells at me if I forget to use them 😂
What is the best type of hook or hanger to use in a patio that is aluminum vinyl? I don't have a wood patio.
This is so brilliant!
Thank you. Glad it helped.

Thank you Macy, I appreciate your visit and comment.
I am having the hardest time finding the 6 x 3 three eights hooks. It won’t come up on any searches in Home Depot or Ace Hardware and I’m going out of my mind. Can you please tell me the brand that you’ve used and give me a different name for them because they’re not coming up in any of the searches. And I’m very new at this
These 2 links should help you out. There's more links in the description below the video.
Good Luck.

John C RV yeah great idea! I hope you had a great Memorial Day too!
Awesome video thanks for sharing
Awesome sharing, my friend!! Have nice day. 👍👍👌☺️😊✌️
Thank you Elio. Have a great day.
Love the idea sir. But my patio is concrete. What should I use to penetrate it ?
I would consider plastic screw anchors for concrete for the hooks.
Awesome! Can I use extension rods for inside a screened in porch?
I don't see why not. Whatever fits your situation. My suggestion is to stay away from anything that rusts if your installation is outside. Hope it helped.
Great work John! I will show this to my wife!
Thanks for the visit and comment I appreciate it.
Wonderfully done, this is really special!! +1 LIKE 💖
Thanks for the visit and comment. Have a good week.
Nice tutorial and thank you for subtitle👍👍👍
Thanks for the visit and comment I appreciate it.
Thanks, great video.
Are they made of Olefin?
Have you had any issues like fading or breakdown of the fabric?
Do you take them down when there's a storm?
How often do you wash them?
Thanks again!!
Not sure what they are made of, there’s a link in the description that has all the information.
We have never had to replace them for any reason since they are outdoor curtains they can take lots of abuse from sun and rain. we did machine washed once so far. we did take them down during a hurricane watch which never came. On windy days we tie them to the columns to avoid them from flopping around. one thing I regret, is not doing this years ago. It took a long time to convince the wife that it would look nice as well as block the sun. We really enjoy our patio now..
Hope this helps.
Great Video
Whats the size of the rod inside the pvc 1/2 inch also?
See all the info and links in the description.
Home Depot also has all the hardware....

Thank you for the visit and comment
where did you purchased the metal rods and what size are they to go inside the pvc pipe. thank you great idea.
See all the info and links in the description.
Home Depot also has all the hardware....
Are those outdoor curtains. I live in Arizona and during the summer I need something sturdy and strong as the sun here Frys everything that is left outside.
Yes, they are for outdoors. They withstood the Florida sun so far. 😅
@@JohnCRV where did you purchase the curtain, if I may ask?
In the description click on the first link, it will take you to the Amazon curtain site.
You can pick a different color and measurements as well. Good luck.
@@JohnCRV thank you so much. Have a great day!
Great video! Looks way more simple and achievable than others I've watched, THANK YOU! Could I install the hooks lateral instead of vertically? I wanted the look of the top of the curtain being kinda hidden behind the beams. I have a double wood beam I think I can screw them into instead...does this maken sense and do you think its doable? Also, if my patio length is 9ft do I need the middle hook? I assume I would do a 8 or 8½ft piping to leave room to install, hook and unhook as needed....
I think the hooks may bend if installed lateral or maybe not.
I would still install a middle hook to avoid the center to sag and high winds.
Very nice video!!! Like 👍🏻😄
Thank you
Did your pvc piping sag after a year or so?
Very little. If it does you just spin the rod the opposite way....👍
thank you!! will be doing this this weekend!
Good luck👌
Awesome vid man!

This is super cool - can you tell us what was the estimated cost for the whole thing?
Around $250.00
@@JohnCRV thank you much- that much better than paying $3000 that was quoted.
